O texto apresenta uma comparação entre o surgimento e desenvolvimento do processo Fórum Social Mundial e a Marcha Mundial das Mulheres no Brasil. O Fórum teve uma enorme contribuição para historicizar a globalização capitalista e mudar os termos do debate, e o movimento de mulheres tem sua trajetória imersa neste contexto, assim como o feminismo tem um grande potencial para desnaturalizar o discurso sobre a globalização e a economia neoliberal. O texto também mostra as relações construídas entre os movimentos sociais e suas agendas em comum que vêm se expressando no conjunto das ações do movimento antiglobalização.<br>The text presents a comparisson among the raising and development of the World Social Forum and of the World March of Women in Brazil. The Forum has had an enormous contribution to historicize the capitalist globalization and to change the terms of the debate, and the women's movement has its trajectory embeded in this context, as well as the great potential that feminism has to denaturalize the mainstream vision on globalization and neoliberal economy. The text also presents the relation built among the movements and their common agendas that has being expressed in the framework of the anti-globalization movement actions

Estatísticas rurais e a economia feminista Um olhar sobre o trabalho das mulheres

Este livro traz informações disponíveis sobre a situação do trabalho, ocupação e renda do chamado setor agropecuário, presentes na produção das estatísticas oficiais. Também contém reflexões sobre essa realidade, partindo das contribuições da economia feminista e do conceito de divisão sexual do trabalho. Trata-se de uma iniciativa do Ministério do Desenvolvimento Agrário (MDA), por meio da Assessoria Especial de Gênero, Raça e Etnia (Aegre) e do Núcleo de Estudos Agrários e Desenvolvimento Rural (Nead)2, em parceria com as autoras convidadas para caracterizar a realidade das trabalhadoras rurais e refletir sobre as desigualdades que ainda marcam as suas vidas. Gerar informações sem somar a esse esforço uma reflexão acerca dos sentidos das mudanças em curso e da permanência nessa realidade seria uma tarefa incompleta, por esse motivo este livro tem início com uma importante reflexão sobre as mulheres rurais a partir de um campo ainda desconhecido de produção intelectual – a economia feminista

Randomized, phase 1/2, double-blind pioglitazone repositioning trial combined with antifungals for the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis – PIO study

Background: Cryptococcosis affects more than 220,000 patients/year, with high mortality even when the standard treatment [amphotericin B (AMB), 5-flucytosin (5-FC) and fluconazole] is used. AMB presents high toxicity and 5-FC is not currently available in Brazil. In a pre-clinical study, pioglitazone (PIO - an antidiabetic drug) decreased AMB toxicity and lead to an increased mice survival, reduced morbidity and fungal burden in brain and lungs. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PIO combined with standard antifungal treatment for human cryptococcosis. Methods: A phase 1/2, randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial will be performed with patients from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. They will be divided into three groups (placebo, PIO 15 mg/day or PIO 45 mg/day) and will receive an additional pill during the induction phase of cryptococcosis’ treatment. Our hypothesis is that treated patients will have increased survival, so the primary outcome will be the mortality rate. Patients will be monitored for survival, side effects, fungal burden and inflammatory mediators in blood and cerebrospinal fluid. The follow up will occur for up 60 days. Conclusions: We expect that PIO will be an adequate adjuvant to the standard cryptococcosis’ treatment.
