    A proposal for a different chi-square function for Poisson distributions

    We obtain an approximate Gaussian distribution from a Poisson distribution after doing a change of variable. A new chi-square function is obtained which can be used for parameter estimations and goodness-of-fit testing when adjusting curves to histograms. Since the new distribution is approximately Gaussian we can use it even when the bin contents are small. The corresponding chi-square function can be used for curve fitting. This chi-square function is simple to implement and presents a fast convergence of the parameters to the correct value, especially for the parameters associated with the width of the fitted curve. We present a Monte Carlo comparative study of the fitting method introduced here and two other methods for three types of curves: Gaussian, Breit-Wigner and Moyal, when each bin content obeys a Poisson distribution.     Single neutral heavy lepton production at electron-muon colliders

    New heavy Majorana and Dirac neutrinos production at future electron-muon colliders are investigated. The production of a single heavy neutrino is shown to be more relevant than pair production when comparing cross sections and neutrino mass ranges. The process e±μν±We^\pm \mu^\mp \longrightarrow {\nu} \ell^{\pm} W^{\mp} is studied including on-shell and off-shell heavy neutrino effects.     Pair production of the heavy leptons in future high energy linear e^{+}e^{-} colliders

    The littlest Higgs model with T-parity predicts the existence of the T-odd particles, which can only be produced in pair. We consider pair production of the T-odd leptons in future high energy linear e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider (ILCILC). Our numerical results show that, as long as the T-odd leptons are not too heavy, they can be copiously produced and their possible signals might be detected via the processes e+eLˉiLje^{+}e^{-}\to \bar{L}_{i}L_{j} in future ILCILC experiments.Comment: Discussions added, typos and references correcte

    We discuss possible deviations from QED produced by a virtual excited spin-3/2 lepton in the reaction e+e2γe^+e^- \longrightarrow 2\gamma. Data recorded by the OPAL Collaboration at a c.m. energy s=183GeV\sqrt{s} = 183 GeV are used to establish bounds on the nonstandard-lepton mass and coupling strengths.Comment: Latex, 5 pages, 7 ps figures.     Signature for heavy Majorana neutrinos in hadronic collisions

    The production and decay of new possible heavy Majorana neutrinos are analyzed in hadronic collisions. New bounds on the mixing of these particles with standard neutrinos are estimated according to a fundamental representation suggested by grand unified models. A clear signature for these Majorana neutrinos is given by same-sign dileptons plus a charged weak vector boson in the final state.     In this paper we present a model for the spontaneous breaking of parity with two Higgs doublets and two neutral Higgs singlets which are even and odd under D-parity. The condition vR>>vL v_R >>v_L can be satisfied without introducing bidoublets and it is induced by the breaking of D-parity through the vacuum expectation value of the odd Higgs singlet. The production mechanism is given by a single heavy neutrino production and decay proton-proton -> l^{\pm} N X -> l^{\pm} l^{\pm} X'.     TeV-scale seesaw from a multi-Higgs model

    We suggest new simple model of generating tiny neutrino masses through a TeV-scale seesaw mechanism without requiring tiny Yukawa couplings. This model is a simple extension of the standard model by introducing extra one Higgs singlet, and one Higgs doublet with a tiny vacuum expectation value. Experimental constraints, electroweak precision data and no large flavor changing neutral currents, are satisfied since the extra doublet only has a Yukawa interaction with lepton doublets and right-handed neutrinos, and their masses are heavy of order a TeV-scale. Since active light neutrinos are Majorana particles, this model predicts a neutrinoless double beta decay.Comment: 21 pages, 8 figure

    Signatures of heavy Majorana neutrinos and HERA's isolated lepton events

    The graph of neutrinoless double beta decay is applied to HERA and generalized to final states with any two charged leptons. Considered is the case in which one of the two escapes typical identification criteria and the case when a produced tau decays hadronically. Both possibilities give one isolated lepton with high transverse momentum, hadronic activity and an imbalance in transverse momentum. We examine the kinematical properties of these events and compare them with the high p_T isolated leptons reported by the H1 collaboration. Their positive charged muon events can be explained by the ``double beta'' process and we discuss possibilities for the precise determination which original final state produced the single isolated lepton. To confirm our hypothesis one should search in the data for high pseudorapidity and/or low p_T leptons or for additional separated jets.Comment: 19 pages with 14 figures, minor change

    Signatures for Majorana neutrinos in eγe^- \gamma collider

    We study the possibilities to detect Majorana neutrinos in eγe^- \gamma colliders for different center of mass energies. We study the WWlj+(lj+e+,μ+,τ+)W^- W^- l_j^{+}(l_j^+\equiv e^+ ,\mu^+ ,\tau^+) final state which are, due to leptonic number violation, a clear signature for intermediate Majorana neutrino contribution. Such a signal (final lepton have the opposite charge of the initial lepton) is not possible if the heavy neutrinos are Dirac particles. In our calculation we use the helicity formalism to obtain analytic expressions for the amplitude and we have considered that the intermediate neutrinos can be either on shell or off shell. Finally we present our results for the total cross-section and for the angular distribution of the final lepton.
