¿Comprenden los pacientes el tratamiento antibiótico prescrito?

ObjetivoValorar el grado de conocimiento del paciente al que se le prescribe un antibiótico, sobre la dosis y duración de la pauta.DiseñoDescriptivo, transversal. Emplazamiento. Atención primaria de Toledo. Participantes. Mayores de 18 años que acudieron a 10 farmacias de Toledo, con receta de algún antibiótico, entre abril y mayo de 2000.Mediciones principalesLos formularios los cumplimentó un farmacéutico que se hizo responsable en cada establecimiento. Previa recepción de la receta, se le preguntaba al paciente sobre la posología del fármaco prescrito y se comparaba con las instrucciones que figuraban en ésta. Resultados. La muestra la formaron 155 mujeres y 163 varones, con edad media de 46,42 años (DE, 17,2). Los antibióticos más frecuentemente prescritos fueron: amoxicilina (24,2%), amoxicilina-ácido clavulánico (18,2%) y ciprofloxacino (10,6%). Un 63,2% de los entrevistados recordó correctamente la pauta prescrita sin necesidad de consultar ningún tipo de instrucción, mientras que el 17,6% precisó consultarlas. El 33% llevaba instrucciones escritas por el médico. La edad media de los que contestaron incorrectamente era de 52,8 años y de los que lo hicieron de forma correcta de 44,9 años (p < 0,01). No hay diferencias significativas entre varones y mujeres.ConclusionesExiste un importante porcentaje de pacientes, en especial los de mayor edad, que no ha recibido o no ha comprendido las instrucciones dadas por su médico.ObjectiveTo assess to what degree patients who had been prescribed an antibiotic understand the dose and duration of the prescription.DesignDescriptive, cross-sectional.SettingPrimary care in Toledo. After receipt of the prescription, the patient was asked about the dose of the drug prescribed. This was then compared with the instructions on the drug.Results155 women and 163 men made up the sample, with an average age of 46.42 (SD, 17.2). The most commonly prescribed antibiotics were: a) amoxycillin (24.2%), 2) amoxycillin-clavulanic acid (18.2%), and c) ciprofloxacin (10.6%). 63.2% of those interviewed remembered correctly the dosage prescribed without having to consult any kind of instruction, whereas 17.6% did need to consult instructions. 33% brought instructions written by the doctor. The average age of those who answered incorrectly was 52.8; and of those who answered correctly, 44.9 (p < 0.01).
