Farming with future: making crop protection sustainable

    Get PDF
The project Farming with future works with parties with a vested interest to promote sustainable crop protection in practice. Besides developing new knowledge, it spends a good deal of its energy in the embedding of sustainable practices within relevant organisations, businesses and agrarian entrepreneurs in order to make these practices permanent features of their activities

    Reconstructing financial statements

This paper introduces a tool for the reconstruction and validation of categorized totals embedded in untrusted and unformatted text, such as OCR scans of nancial statements. The tool is a spino of academic research into the funding of Japanese third-sector organizations, the annual reports of which are frequently published reports in the form of PDF les containing document images. A number of techniques at string- line- and document-level are used to resolve ambiguities and obtain the greatest possible recovery rate for the underlying data, while excluding the content of untrustworthy documents from the nal sample. In a preliminary trial \in the wild", the tool has returned validated income totals for 47.9% of the documents in a heterogeous set of 2205 annual reports

Evaluation of wood pretreatments on oak and cedar

    Get PDF
In a separate study, we conducted a series of high-precision radiocarbon measurements using wood from Britain and New Zealand to investigate interhemispheric offsets and possible temporal variations. To minimize variability associated with different species, the pretreatment of the oak (Quercus patraea) and cedar (Librocedrus bidwilli) was to acellulose for both. This study investigates the thoroughness of a range of pretreatment processes by the stable isotope analysis of the products

Behavioral modeling of power line communication channels for automotive applications

    Get PDF
The black-box modeling of a power line communication channel in a car is addressed in this paper. The proposed behavioral approach is based on the so-called multipath model representation, that describes the transmission of a signal on a possibly complex power network by means of a finite number of delayed echoes. Model parameters are estimated from the frequency-domain response of the channel via a well-defined modeling procedure. A first assessment on the inclusion in the model equation of the variability of the response of the channel is carried out. The effectiveness of the approach has been demonstrated on a set of real measurements carried out on a commercial automobil

    Working methodologically on system innovations

    Get PDF
Dutch agriculture is facing the challenge to develop into a sustainable sector. To achieve this goal, innovations are needed which force breaks with past trends and speed up the tempo of sustainable development. The System Innovation Programmes developed by Wageningen UR contribute with new, future-oriented business concepts and integral strategies for sustainable agriculture. This is realized using various systematic approaches, which can be implemented either individually or in conjunction with one another

Rise-time effects in ggnMOSt under TLP stress

    Get PDF
In this paper the main mechanisms that lead the turn on of the parasitic bipolar transistor of a grounded gate nMOS transistor (ggnMOS) under TLP stress have been analyzed in detail in the sub-nanoseconds range by means of a mixed-mode simulator. We showed that the breakdown voltage of the ggnMOS measured in static conditions would underestimate the maximum voltage across the protection structure obtained by TLP stress, depending on the rise-time of the applied puls
