Courseware development using influence diagram with SCORM compatibility
[[abstract]]Web-based distance learning has become more popular and convenient, and it provides a flexible environment for learners. However, it is hard for teachers to design the distance course and assess students' learning. To overcome this drawback, a systematic assessment mechanism is proposed to enhance interaction between students and teachers. The theory-of-concept and influence diagram are combined together as a new courseware diagram with useful tools. Finally, this mechanism can be used easily by instructor and student because of its user-friendly interface, and it transforms the course content to being SCORM (scalable content object reference model) standard compatible.[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencedate]]20040627~20040630[[iscallforpapers]]Y[[conferencelocation]]Taipei, Taiwa

First assessment of computations of turbulent bubbly flow and particulate flow with the COMMIX-M program
The COMMIX-M computer code, which describes steady-state and transient single- and multicomponent flows in engineering systems, has been implemented to simulate suspension flows in laminar regimes and turbulent and bubbly particulate flows. This report presents a synopsis of the present code`s capabilities, with particular emphasis on the recent development of turbulence models, and explains in detail the modifications necessary to simulate particulate flows and bubbly flows. First results of computations of turbulent bubbly and particulate flows are then given and compared with results of computations reported in the literature and with preliminary experimental results obtained at the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (Germany)
The antiferromagnetic phi4 Model, II. The one-loop renormalization
It is shown that the four dimensional antiferromagnetic lattice phi4 model
has the usual non-asymptotically free scaling law in the UV regime around the
chiral symmetrical critical point. The theory describes a scalar and a
pseudoscalar particle. A continuum effective theory is derived for low
energies. A possibility of constructing a model with a single chiral boson is

Effects of low environmental salinity on the cellular profiles and expression of Na+, K+-ATPase and Na+, K+, 2Cl(-) cotransporter 1 of branchial mitochondrion-rich cells in the juvenile marine fish Monodactylus argenteus
The goal of this study was to determine the osmoregulatory ability of a juvenile marine fish, silver moony (), for the purpose of developing a new experimental species for ecophysiological research. In this study, was acclimated to freshwater (FW), brackish water (BW), or seawater (SW). The salinity tolerance of this euryhaline species was effective, and the fish survived well upon osmotic challenges. The largest apical surface of mitochondrion-rich cells was found in the FW individuals. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that Na+, K+-ATPase immunoreactive (NKA-IR) cells were distributed in the interlamellar region of the gill filaments of the silver moony in all experimental groups. In addition to the filaments, NKA-IR cells were also found in the lamellae of the FW individuals. The number of NKA-IR cells in the gills of the FW individuals exceeded that of the BW and SW individuals. The NKA-IR cells of FW and SW individuals exhibited bigger size than that of BW fish. The NKA activities and protein expression of the NKA alpha-subunit in the gills of the FW individuals were significantly higher than in the BW and SW groups. Additionally, the relative amounts of Na+, K+, 2Cl(-) cotransporter 1 (NKCC1) were salinity-dependent in the gills. Immunofluorescent signals of NKCC1 were localized to the basolateral membrane of NKA-IR cells in all groups. In the gills of the FW individuals, however, some NKA-IR cells did not exhibit a basolateral NKCC1 signal. In conclusion, the present study illustrated the osmoregulatory mechanisms of this easy- and economic-to-rear marine teleost with euryhaline capacity and proved the silver moony to be a good experimental animal
On the supersymmetric vacua of the Veneziano-Wosiek model
We study the supersymmetric vacua of the Veneziano-Wosiek model in sectors
with fermion number F=2, 4 at finite 't Hooft coupling lambda. We prove that
for F=2 there are two zero energy vacua for lambda > lambda_c = 1 and none
otherwise. We give the analytical expressions of both vacua. One of them was
previously known, the second one is obtained by solving the cohomology of the
supersymmetric charges. At F=4 we compute the would-be supersymmetric vacua at
high order in the the strong coupling expansion and provide strong support to
the conclusion that lambda = 1 is a critical point in this sector too. It
separates a strong coupling phase with two symmetric vacua from a weak coupling

Escalated regeneration in sciatic nerve crush injury by the combined therapy of human amniotic fluid mesenchymal stem cells and fermented soybean extracts, Natto
Attenuation of inflammatory cell deposits and associated cytokines prevented the apoptosis of transplanted stem cells in a sciatic nerve crush injury model. Suppression of inflammatory cytokines by fermented soybean extracts (Natto) was also beneficial to nerve regeneration. In this study, the effect of Natto on transplanted human amniotic fluid mesenchymal stem cells (AFS) was evaluated. Peripheral nerve injury was induced in SD rats by crushing a sciatic nerve using a vessel clamp. Animals were categorized into four groups: Group I: no treatment; Group II: fed with Natto (16 mg/day for 7 consecutive days); Group III: AFS embedded in fibrin glue; Group IV: Combination of group II and III therapy. Transplanted AFS and Schwann cell apoptosis, inflammatory cell deposits and associated cytokines, motor function, and nerve regeneration were evaluated 7 or 28 days after injury. The deterioration of neurological function was attenuated by AFS, Natto, or the combined therapy. The combined therapy caused the most significantly beneficial effects. Administration of Natto suppressed the inflammatory responses and correlated with decreased AFS and Schwann cell apoptosis. The decreased AFS apoptosis was in line with neurological improvement such as expression of early regeneration marker of neurofilament and late markers of S-100 and decreased vacuole formation. Administration of either AFS, or Natto, or combined therapy augmented the nerve regeneration. In conclusion, administration of Natto may rescue the AFS and Schwann cells from apoptosis by suppressing the macrophage deposits, associated inflammatory cytokines, and fibrin deposits
Granular discharge and clogging for tilted hoppers
We measure the flux of spherical glass beads through a hole as a systematic
function of both tilt angle and hole diameter, for two different size beads.
The discharge increases with hole diameter in accord with the Beverloo relation
for both horizontal and vertical holes, but in the latter case with a larger
small-hole cutoff. For large holes the flux decreases linearly in cosine of the
tilt angle, vanishing smoothly somewhat below the angle of repose. For small
holes it vanishes abruptly at a smaller angle. The conditions for zero flux are
discussed in the context of a {\it clogging phase diagram} of flow state vs
tilt angle and ratio of hole to grain size
Effect of Phosphorus and Strontium Additions on Formation Temperature and Nucleation Density of Primary Silicon in Al-19 Wt Pct Si Alloy and Their Effect on Eutectic Temperature
The influence of P and Sr additions on the formation temperature and nucleation density of primary silicon in Al-19 wt pct Si alloy has been determined, for small volumes of melt solidified at cooling rates _T of ~0.3 and 1 K/s. The proportion of ingot featuring primary silicon decreased
progressively with increased Sr addition, which also markedly reduced the temperature for first formation of primary silicon and the number of primary silicon particles per unit volume �Nv: When combined with previously published results, the effects of amount of P addition and cooling rate on �Nv are in reasonable accord with �Nv� _T ¼ ðp=6fÞ1=2 109 [250 � 215 (wt pct P)0.17]�3, where �Nv is in mm�3, _T is in K/s, and f is volume fraction of primary silicon.
Increased P addition reduces the eutectic temperature, while increased Sr appears to generate a minimum in eutectic temperature at about 100 ppmw Sr
Adjustment of the electric current in pulsar magnetospheres and origin of subpulse modulation
The subpulse modulation of pulsar radio emission goes to prove that the
plasma flow in the open field line tube breaks into isolated narrow streams. I
propose a model which attributes formation of streams to the process of the
electric current adjustment in the magnetosphere. A mismatch between the
magnetospheric current distribution and the current injected by the polar cap
accelerator gives rise to reverse plasma flows in the magnetosphere. The
reverse flow shields the electric field in the polar gap and thus shuts up the
plasma production process. I assume that a circulating system of streams is
formed such that the upward streams are produced in narrow gaps separated by
downward streams. The electric drift is small in this model because the
potential drop in narrow gaps is small. The gaps have to drift because by the
time a downward stream reaches the star surface and shields the electric field,
the corresponding gap has to shift. The transverse size of the streams is
determined by the condition that the potential drop in the gaps is sufficient
for the pair production. This yields the radius of the stream roughly 10% of
the polar cap radius, which makes it possible to fit in the observed
morphological features such as the "carousel" with 10-20 subbeams and the
