A possible supersymmetric solution to the discrepancy between B -> \phi K_S and B -> \eta' K_S CP asymmetries
We present a possible supersymmetric solution to the discrepancy between the
observed mixing CP asymmetries in B -> \phi K_S and B -> \eta' K_S. We show
that due to the different parity in the final states of these processes, their
supersymmetric contributions from the R-sector have an opposite sign, which
naturally explain the large deviation between S_{\phi K_S} and S_{\eta' K_S}.
We also consider the proposed mechanisms to solve the puzzle of the observed
large branching ratio of B -> \eta' K and study their impact on S_{eta' K_S}.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Kinetics, Activation Parameters, and Mechanism of the Acid Hydrolysis of tert-Butyl Acetate in Aqueous DMSO
The rate of the acid-catalysed hydrolysis of tert-butyl acetate
was found to decrease pronouncly in the presence of increasing
amounts of DMSO. The observed activation energy decreased progressively
with increasing DMSO content of the medium and the
change was attributed to a gradual interconversion of the two
concurrent and competing reaction mechanisms AALl and AAc2.
The overall reaction rate was analysed theoretically as two individual
rate constants corresponding to the respective mechanisms.
The percentage contribution of each mechanism was then estimated
and found to be concordant with the values determined experimentally
by others using 180 tracer technique. The proportion of
the AALl mechanism was found to increase both with increasing
temperature and decreasing DMSO content. The relative abundance
of the transition state belonging to each of the involved mechanisms
was discussed in the light of the solvating power of the binary DMSO-H20 solvent system. The effect of the molar concentration of water as well as the dielectric constant of the medium on the reaction kinetics was studied. The thermodynamic parameters of activation showed strong dependence on solvent composition and their values were determined by the relative contributions of the two mechanistic routes of the reaction
Examining the cancellation mechanism of neutron EDM in a model with dilaton-dominated susy breaking
We examine the cancellation mechanism between the different contributions to
the electric dipole moment of the neutron in a model with dilaton-dominated
SUSY breaking. We find these accidental cancellations occur at few points in
parameter space. For a wide region of this space we must constrain the phase of
to be of order and have the phases of and strongly
correlated in order to have small neutron EDM. Moreover, we consider the
indirect CP violation parameter in this region where the electric
dipole moment is less than the experimental limit and find that we can generate
of order
Solving the SUSY CP problem with flavor breaking F-terms
Supersymmetric flavor models for the radiative generation of fermion masses
offer an alternative way to solve the SUSY-CP problem. We assume that the
supersymmetric theory is flavor and CP conserving. CP violating phases are
associated to the vacuum expectation values of flavor violating susy-breaking
fields. As a consequence, phases appear at tree level only in the soft
supersymmetry breaking matrices. Using a U(2) flavor model as an example we
show that it is possible to generate radiatively the first and second
generation of quark masses and mixings as well as the CKM CP phase. The
one-loop supersymmetric contributions to EDMs are automatically zero since all
the relevant parameters in the lagrangian are flavor conserving and as a
consequence real. The size of the flavor and CP mixing in the susy breaking
sector is mostly determined by the fermion mass ratios and CKM elements. We
calculate the contributions to epsilon, epsilon^{prime} and to the CP
asymmetries in the B decays to psi Ks, phi Ks, eta^{\prime} Ks and Xs gamma. We
analyze a case study with maximal predictivity in the fermion sector. For this
worst case scenario the measurements of Delta mK, Delta mB and epsilon
constrain the model requiring extremely heavy squark spectra.Comment: 21 pages, RevTex
Supersymmetric contributions to B -> D K and the determination of angle \gamma
We analyze supersymmetric contributions to B^- -> D^0 K^- and B^- ->\bar{D}^0
K^- processes. We investigate the possibility that supersymmetric CP violating
phases can affect our determination for the angle \gamma in the unitary
triangle of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskaw mixing matrix. We calculate the gluino and
chargino contributions to b--> u(\bar{c}s) and b-->c(\bar{u}s) transitions in a
model independent way by using the mass insertion approximation method. We also
revise the D^0 - \bar{D}^0 mixing constraints on the mass insertions between
the first and second generations of the up sector. We emphasize that in case of
negligible D^0 -\bar{D}^0 mixing, one should consider simultaneous
contributions from more than one mass insertion in order to be able to obtain
the CP asymmetries of these processes within their 1\sigma experimental range.
However, with a large D^0-\bar{D}^0 mixing, one finds a significant deviation
between the two asymmetries and it becomes natural to have them of order the
central values of their experimental measurements.Comment: 20 page
ICH guidelines-compliant HPLC-UV method for pharmaceutical quality control and therapeutic drug monitoring of the multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor pazopanib
In this study, an HPLC method with ultraviolet (UV) detection was developed and validated for determination of pazopanib (PAZ), a multi-targeted tyrosine kinase (TK) inhibitor in bulk drug, tablets formulation, and in human plasma. Oxamniquine (OXA) was used as internal standard (IS). The analytical column used for the separation was Nucleosil CN with dimensions (i.d. 250 Ă 4.6 mm and particle size 5 ÎŒm). The separation was carried out in isocratic mode with mobile phase constituting acetonitrile:100 mM sodium acetate buffer (pH 4.5); 40:60, v/v. The developed method was linear in the concentration range of 2â12 ÎŒg mLâ1 and had a correlation coefficient (r = 0.9998, n = 6). The limits of detection and quantitation (LOD and LOQ) were 0.27 and 0.82 ÎŒg mLâ1, respectively. The relative standard deviations for the inter- and intra-assay precisions were below 3.61 % and the accuracy of the method was 96.69â104.15 %. The degradation products were resolved from the intact drug, proving the stability-indicating property of the proposed method. The recovery values were 100.17â103.98 % (± 1.81â4.02) for determination of PAZ in human plasma. The results indicated the versatility of the new method in estimation of PAZ during pharmaceutical quality control (QC) and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).Keywords: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors, pazopanib, HPLC, UV detection, quality control, therapeutic drug monitorin
On supersymmetric contributions to the CP asymmetry of the B -> phi K_S
We analyse the CP asymmetry of the B -> phi K_S process in general
supersymmetric models. In the framework of the mass insertion approximation, we
derive model independent limits for the mixing CP asymmetry. We show that
chromomagnetic type of operator may play an important role in accounting for
the deviation of the mixing CP asymmetry between B -> phi K_S and B -> J/psi
K_S processes observed by Belle and BaBar experiments. A possible correlation
between the direct and mixing CP asymmetry is also discussed. Finally, we apply
our result in minimal supergravity model and supersymmetric models with
non-universal soft terms.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figure
Performance Enhancement of Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane Using Nanocomposite Materials
Many attempts were made to enhance the performance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes in the desalination process. Using ion exchange (IX) bed before RO process and modifying the structure of RO membranes are some of these attempts. Thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane is the novel type of RO membranes which is the best in nanofiltration applications. TFN membranes have many new advantages due to the change of their structure in comparison with traditional membranes. In this study the performance of a TFN membrane was compared with that of standard thin film composite (TFC) spiral wound water desalination RO membrane for filtration of IX produced water. The results from the filtration process showed that the flux and water permeability of TFN are 1.55 and 1.56 times that of TFC for feed water with 2050 ppm NaCl concentration with nearly unchanged level of the membrane salt rejection, which will reduce the filtrated water cost
A Hybrid Sensor Based Backstepping Control Approach with its application to Fault-Tolerant Flight Control
Recently, an incremental type sensor based backstepping (SBB) control approach, based on singular perturbation theory and Tikhonovâs theorem, has been proposed. This Lyapunov function based method uses measurements of control variables and less model knowledge, and it is not susceptible to the model uncertainty caused by fault scenarios. In this paper, the SBB method has been implemented on a fixed wing aircraft with its focus on handling structural changes caused by damages. A new hybrid autopilot flight controller has been developed for a Boeing 747-200 aircraft after combining nonlinear dynamic inversion (NDI) with SBB control approach. Two benchmarks for fault tolerant flight control (FTFC), named rudder runaway and engine separation, are employed to evaluate the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed control approach leads to a zero tracking-error performance in nominal condition and guarantees the stability of the closed-loop system under failures as long as the reference commands are located in the safe flight envelope
