The EET Horizontal Tails Investigation and the EET Lateral Controls Investigation
In the energy efficient transport (EET) Horizontal Tails Investigation, aerodynamic data were measured for five different horizontal tails on a full span model with a wide body fuselage. Three of the horizontal tails were low tail configurations and two were T tail configurations. All tails were tested in conjunction with two wings, a current wide body wing and a high aspect ratio supercritical wing. Local downwash angles and dynamic pressures in the vicinity of the tails were measured using a yaw head rake. The results provide a comparison of the aerodynamic characteristics of the two wing configurations at trimmed conditions for Mach numbers between 0.60 and 0.90. In the EET Lateral Controls Investigation, the control effectiveness of a conventional set of lateral controls was measured over a Mach number range from 0.60 to 0.90 on a high aspect ratio supercritical wing semispan model. The conventional controls included a high speed aileron, a low speed aileron, and six spoiler segments. The wing was designed so that the last 25% of the chord is removable to facilitate testing of various control systems. torsion and describe basic properties of such spacetimes. We use our
generalised pp-waves for constructing new explicit vacuum solutions of

Compressible flow across narrow passages: Comparison of theory and experiment for face seals
Computer calculation for determining compressible flow across radial face seals were compared with measured results obtained in a seal simulator rig at pressure ratios to 0.9 (ambient pressure/sealed pressure). In general, the measured and calculated leakages across the seal dam agreed within 3 percent. The resultant loss coefficient, dependent upon the pressure ratio, ranged from 0.47 to 0.68. The calculated pressures were within 2.5 N/cu um of the measured values

A ROSAT PSPC X-Ray Survey of the Small Magellanic Cloud
We present the results of a systematic search for point-like and moderately
extended soft (0.1-2.4 keV) X-ray sources in a raster of nine pointings
covering a field of 8.95 deg^2 and performed with the ROSAT PSPC between
October 1991 and October 1993 in the direction of the Small Magellanic Cloud.
We detect 248 objects which we include in the first version of our SMC
catalogue of soft X-ray sources. We set up seven source classes defined by
selections in the count rate, hardness ratio and source extent. We find five
high luminosity super-soft sources (1E 0035.4-7230, 1E 0056.8-7146, RX
J0048.4-7332, RX J0058.6-7146 and RX J0103-7254), one low-luminosity super-soft
source RX J0059.6-7138 correlating with the planetary nebula L357, 51 candidate
hard X-ray binaries including eight bright hard X-ray binary candidates, 19
supernova remnants, 19 candidate foreground stars and 53 candidate background
active galactic nuclei (and quasars). We give a likely classification for ~60%
of the catalogued sources. The total count rate of the detected point-like and
moderately extended sources in our catalogue is 6.9+/-0.3 s^-1, comparable to
the background subtracted total rate from the integrated field of ~6.1+/-0.1

Universality of Long-Range Correlations in Expansion-Randomization Systems
We study the stochastic dynamics of sequences evolving by single site
mutations, segmental duplications, deletions, and random insertions. These
processes are relevant for the evolution of genomic DNA. They define a
universality class of non-equilibrium 1D expansion-randomization systems with
generic stationary long-range correlations in a regime of growing sequence
length. We obtain explicitly the two-point correlation function of the sequence
composition and the distribution function of the composition bias in sequences
of finite length. The characteristic exponent of these quantities is
determined by the ratio of two effective rates, which are explicitly calculated
for several specific sequence evolution dynamics of the universality class.
Depending on the value of , we find two different scaling regimes, which
are distinguished by the detectability of the initial composition bias. All
analytic results are accurately verified by numerical simulations. We also
discuss the non-stationary build-up and decay of correlations, as well as more
complex evolutionary scenarios, where the rates of the processes vary in time.
Our findings provide a possible example for the emergence of universality in

A model of interacting electrons living on two chains coupled by a transverse
hopping , is solved exactly by bosonization technique. It is shown

interaction, although charge and spin excitations keep different velocities

, while for larger separation inter--chain hopping is
relevant and generates further singularities in the electron Green function
