Feasibility of Using Cryostored Colorado Potato Beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Eggs for Rearing \u3ci\u3eEdovum Puttleri\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)
Cryostored eggs of Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) eggs were suitable hosts for Edovum puttleri. Parasitism rates were low, however this study was first to show that rearing the parasite on eggs stored at ultra low temperatures (-70 0 C) is feasible. This method of storage will facilitate mass production of E. puttleri as well as prevent loss of the parasite in the event of a crash in the Colorado potato beetle colony
Four-loop lattice-regularized vacuum energy density of the three-dimensional SU(3) + adjoint Higgs theory
The pressure of QCD admits at high temperatures a factorization into purely
perturbative contributions from "hard" thermal momenta, and slowly convergent
as well as non-perturbative contributions from "soft" thermal momenta. The
latter can be related to various effective gluon condensates in a dimensionally
reduced effective field theory, and measured there through lattice simulations.
Practical measurements of one of the relevant condensates have suffered,
however, from difficulties in extrapolating convincingly to the continuum
limit. In order to gain insight on this problem, we employ Numerical Stochastic
Perturbation Theory to estimate the problematic condensate up to 4-loop order
in lattice perturbation theory. Our results seem to confirm the presence of
"large" discretization effects, going like , where is the
lattice spacing. For definite conclusions, however, it would be helpful to
repeat the corresponding part of our study with standard lattice perturbation
theory techniques.Comment: 35 pages. v2: minor corrections, published versio
Coherent transport in Nb/delta-doped-GaAs hybrid microstructures
Coherent transport in Nb/GaAs superconductor-semiconductor microstructures is
presented. The structures fabrication procedure is based on delta-doped layers
grown by molecular-beam-epitaxy near the GaAs surface, followed by an As cap
layer to protect the active semiconductor layers during ex situ transfer. The
superconductor is then sputter deposited in situ after thermal desorption of
the protective layer. Two types of structures in particular will be discussed,
i.e., a reference junction and the engineered one that contains an additional
insulating AlGaAs barrier inserted during the growth in the semiconductor. This
latter configuration may give rise to controlled interference effects and
realizes the model introduced by de Gennes and Saint-James in 1963. While both
structures show reflectionless tunneling-dominated transport, only the
engineered junction shows additionally a low-temperature single marked
resonance peaks superimposed to the characteristic Andreev-dominated subgap
conductance. The analysis of coherent magnetotransport in both microstructures
is successfully performed within the random matrix theory of Andreev transport
and ballistic effects are included by directly solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes
equations. The impact of junction morphology on reflectionless tunneling and
the application of the employed fabrication technique to the realization of
complex semiconductor-superconductor systems are furthermore discussed.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, invited review paper, to be published in Mod.

Effect of \u3ci\u3eBeauveria Bassiana\u3c/i\u3e on Underground Stages Of the Colorado Potato Beetle, \u3ci\u3eLeptinotarsa Decemlineata\u3c/i\u3e (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)
Tests were conducted to determine the effect of the fungus Beauveria bassiana (B.b.) on underground of the Colorado potato beetle (CPB), Leptinotarsa decemlineata. Two levels of B.h., g/m2 and 75 g/m2 , were suspended in water and sprinkled over the surface of the ground in cages to which CPB were added, either as overwintering adults or as 4th instar larvae of the 15t generation. Efficacy of treatments was determined by counting emerged adults. Neither level of B .b. increased mortality in overwintering adults. The highest level of B.h. caused a significant decline in emergence of adults from the 1st generation 4th instars. The 7.5 g/m2 treatment level did not significantly differ from control treatments
The leading non-perturbative coefficient in the weak-coupling expansion of hot QCD pressure
Using Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory within three-dimensional pure
SU(3) gauge theory, we estimate the last unknown renormalization constant that
is needed for converting the vacuum energy density of this model from lattice
regularization to the MSbar scheme. Making use of a previous non-perturbative
lattice measurement of the plaquette expectation value in three dimensions,
this allows us to approximate the first non-perturbative coefficient that
appears in the weak-coupling expansion of hot QCD pressure.Comment: 16 pages. v2: published versio
Renormalization of infrared contributions to the QCD pressure
Thanks to dimensional reduction, the infrared contributions to the QCD
pressure can be obtained from two different three-dimensional effective field
theories, called the Electrostatic QCD (Yang-Mills plus adjoint Higgs) and the
Magnetostatic QCD (pure Yang-Mills theory). Lattice measurements have been
carried out within these theories, but a proper interpretation of the results
requires renormalization, and in some cases also improvement, i.e. the removal
of terms of O(a) or O(a^2). We discuss how these computations can be
implemented and carried out up to 4-loop level with the help of Numerical
Stochastic Perturbation Theory.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, talk presented at Lattice 2006 (High temperature

3-d Lattice QCD Free Energy to Four Loops
We compute the expansion of the 3-d Lattice QCD free energy to four loop
order by means of Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory. The first and
second order are already known and are correctly reproduced. The third and
fourth order coefficients are new results. The known logarithmic divergence in
the fourth order is correctly identified. We comment on the relevance of our
computation in the context of dimensionally reduced finite temperature QCD.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, latex typeset with JHEP3.cl
