Mitochondrially-Encoded Adenosine Triphosphate Synthase 6 Gene Haplotype Variation Among World Population During 2003-2013
Background: Adaptation and natural selection serve as an important part of evolution. Adaptation in molecular level can lead to genetic drift which causes mutation of genetic material; one of which is polymorphism of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). The aim of this study is to verify the polymorphism of mitochondrially-encoded Adenosine Triphosphate synthase6gene (MT-ATP6) as one of mtDNA building blocks among tropic, sub-tropic, and polar areas. Methods: This descriptive quantitative research used 3,210 mtDNA sequences, taken from GenBank, as secondary data from 27 different populations. The data were grouped into 3 population groups based on the climates of their location. After grouping, the sequences were then aligned and trimmed using Unipro EUGENE, and analysed by Arlequin and MitoTool. Results: Results demonstrated 21 haplotypes distributed among 3 populations with variations between each climate population. In the tropic and sub-tropic populations, the dominant haplotype is h1 while h6 is dominant in the polar population. Conclusions: There is a variation of haplotype polymorphism between tropic, sub-tropic, and polar climate population.  
The flavour projection of staggered fermions and the quarter-root trick
It is shown that the flavour projection of staggered fermions can be written
as a projection between the fields on four separate, but parallel, lattices,
where the fields on each are modified forms of the standard staggered fermion
field. Because the staggered Dirac operator acts equally on each lattice, it
respects this flavour projection. We show that the system can be gauged in the
usual fashion and that this does not interfere with flavour projection. We also
consider the path integral, showing that, prior to flavour projection, it
evaluates to the same form on each lattice and that this form is equal to that
used in the quarter-root trick. The flavour projection leaves a path integral

Comparing the drag force on heavy quarks in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory and QCD
Computations of the drag force on a heavy quark moving through a thermal
state of strongly coupled N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory have appeared recently in
hep-th/0605158, hep-ph/0605199, and hep-th/0605182. I compare the strength of
this effect between N=4 gauge theory and QCD, using the static force between
external quarks to normalize the 't Hooft coupling. Comparing N=4 and QCD at
fixed energy density then leads to a relaxation time of roughly 2 fm/c for
charm quarks moving through a quark-gluon plasma at T=250 MeV. This estimate
should be regarded as preliminary because of the difficulties of comparing two

Studies on the Life Cycle and Transmission of \u3ci\u3eCougourdella\u3c/i\u3e Sp., A Microsporidian Parasite of \u3ci\u3eGlossosoma Nigrior\u3c/i\u3e (Trichoptera: Glossosomatidae)
The trichopteran Glossosoma nigrior, the dominant benthic invertebrate grazer in Michigan trout streams, hosts a microsporidian (Protozoa) pathogen, Cougourdella sp., which strongly regulates the population density of larvae in the stream. In order to better understand the interactions between these two species, two possible modes of pathogen transmission, oral and transovum, were investigated. While both sexes of adult G. nigrior were found to be infected with mature environmental spores, spores were not found associated with reproductive tissue. This suggests that transovum transmission does not occur in this system. Glossosoma nigrior, when ex- posed to viable spores taken from infected larvae, did not produce Cougourdella sp. infections, which suggests that oral transmission also does not occur. CHARACTERISTICS AND RESIDENTIAL PATTERNS OF ENERGY-RELATED WORK FORCES IN THE NORTHERN GREAT PLAINS
The socioeconomic characteristics of construction and operating work forces at energy related facilities in the Northern Great Plains were analyzed. A primary interest was to explain differences in local hire rates and settlement patterns on the basis of characteristics of the project and site area. In general, it was found that local hire rates for operating workers can be expected to be substantially greater than for construction workers when differences in project and site characteristics are taken into account. Nonlocal construction workers were found to live in larger communities and to commute substantially greater distances to the project site than nonlocal operating workers.Labor and Human Capital,
Prevalence of QoI resistance and mtDNA diversity in the Irish Zymoseptoria tritici population
peer-reviewedThe emergence and spread of Quinone outside Inhibitor (QoI) fungicide resistance in the Irish Zymoseptoria tritici population in the early 2000s had immediate impacts on the efficacy of the entire group of fungicides for the control of septoria tritici blotch. As a result, a dramatic reduction in the quantities applied to winter wheat occurred in the following seasons. Even in the absence of these fungicides, the frequency of the resistance allele, G143A in the pathogens mtDNA has remained exceptionally high (>97%), and as such, it can be anticipated that continued poor efficacy of current QoI fungicides will be observed. Amongst the isolates with G143A, differences in sensitivity to the QoI pyraclostrobin were observed in vitro. The addition of the alternative oxidase (AOX) inhibitor salicylhydroxamic acid increased sensitivity in these isolates, suggesting some continued impairment of respiration by the QoI fungicides, albeit weak. Interestingly, amongst those tested, the strains from a site with a high frequency of inserts in the MFS1 transporter gene known to enhance QoI efflux did not exhibit this increase in sensitivity. A total of 19 mtDNA haplotypes were detected amongst the 2017 strain collection.
