Prewetting transition on a weakly disordered substrate : evidence for a creeping film dynamics
We present the first microscopic images of the prewetting transition of a
liquid film on a solid surface. Pictures of the local coverage map of a helium
film on a cesium metal surface are taken while the temperature is raised
through the transition. The film edge is found to advance at constant
temperature by successive avalanches in a creep motion with a macroscopic
correlation length. The creep velocity varies strongly in a narrow temperature
range. The retreat motion is obtained only at much lower temperature,
conforming to the strong hysteresis observed for prewetting transition on a
disordered surface. Prewetting transition on such disordered surfaces appears
to give rise to dynamical phenomena similar to what is observed for domain wall

Baryonic Strangeness and Related Susceptibilities in QCD
The ratios of off-diagonal to diagonal conserved charge susceptibilities
e.g., chi_{BS}/chi_{S}, chi_{QS}/chi_{S}, related to the quark flavor
susceptibilities, have proven to be discerning probes of the flavor carrying
degrees of freedom in hot strongly interacting matter. Various constraining
relations between the different susceptibilities are derived based on the
Gell-Mann-Nishijima formula and the assumption of isospin symmetry. Using
generic models of deconfined matter and results form lattice QCD, it is
demonstrated that the flavor carrying degrees of freedom at a temperature above
1.5T_c are quark-like quasiparticles. A new observable related by isospin
symmetry to C_{BS} = -3chi_{BS}/chi_{S} and equal to it in the baryon free
regime is identified. This new observable, which is blind to neutral and
non-strange particles, carries the potential of being measured in relativistic

Anisotropic electrical resistivity of LaFeAsO: evidence for electronic nematicity
Single crystals of LaFeAsO were successfully grown out of KI flux.
Temperature dependent electrical resistivity was measured with current flow
along the basal plane, \rho_perpend(T), as well as with current flow along the
crystallographic c-axis, \rho_parallel(T), the latter one utilizing electron
beam lithography and argon ion beam milling. The anisotropy ratio was found to
lie between \rho_parallel/\rho_perpend = 20 - 200. The measurement of
\rho_perpend(T) was performed with current flow along the tetragonal [1 0 0]
direction and along the [1 1 0] direction and revealed a clear in-plane
anisotropy already at T \leq 175 K. This is significantly above the
orthorhombic distortion at T_0 = 147 K and indicates the formation of an
electron nematic phase. Magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity give
evidence for a change of the magnetic structure of the iron atoms from
antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic arrangement along the c-axis at T^\ast = 11

Performance of a First-Level Muon Trigger with High Momentum Resolution Based on the ATLAS MDT Chambers for HL-LHC
Highly selective first-level triggers are essential to exploit the full
physics potential of the ATLAS experiment at High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). The
concept for a new muon trigger stage using the precision monitored drift tube
(MDT) chambers to significantly improve the selectivity of the first-level muon
trigger is presented. It is based on fast track reconstruction in all three
layers of the existing MDT chambers, made possible by an extension of the
first-level trigger latency to six microseconds and a new MDT read-out
electronics required for the higher overall trigger rates at the HL-LHC. Data
from -collisions at is used to study the
minimal muon transverse momentum resolution that can be obtained using the MDT
precision chambers, and to estimate the resolution and efficiency of the
MDT-based trigger. A resolution of better than is found in all sectors
under study. With this resolution, a first-level trigger with a threshold of
becomes fully efficient for muons with a transverse momentum
above in the barrel, and above in the

Systematic Mapping of the Hubbard Model to the Generalized t-J Model
The generalized t-J model conserving the number of double occupancies is
constructed from the Hubbard model at and in the vicinity of half-filling at
strong coupling. The construction is realized by a self-similar continuous
unitary transformation. The flow equation is closed by a truncation scheme
based on the spatial range of processes. We analyze the conditions under which
the t-J model can be set up and we find that it can only be defined for
sufficiently large interaction. There, the parameters of the effective model

Semiclassical universality of parametric spectral correlations
We consider quantum systems with a chaotic classical limit that depend on an
external parameter, and study correlations between the spectra at different
parameter values. In particular, we consider the parametric spectral form
factor which depends on a scaled parameter difference . For
parameter variations that do not change the symmetry of the system we show by
using semiclassical periodic orbit expansions that the small expansion
of the form factor agrees with Random Matrix Theory for systems with and

Treponema denticola in Disseminating Endodontic Infections
Treponema denticola is a consensus periodontal pathogen that has recently been associated with endodontic pathology. In this study, the effect of mono-infection of the dental pulp with T. denticola and with polymicrobial “red-complex” organisms (RC) (Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and T. denticola) in inducing disseminating infections in wild-type (WT) and severe-combined-immunodeficiency (SCID) mice was analyzed. After 21 days, a high incidence (5/10) of orofacial abscesses was observed in SCID mice mono-infected with T. denticola, whereas abscesses were rare in SCID mice infected with the red-complex organisms or in wildtype mice. Splenomegaly was present in all groups, but only mono-infected SCID mice had weight loss. T. denticola DNA was detected in the spleen, heart, and brain of mono-infected SCID mice and in the spleen from mono-infected wild-type mice, which also had more periapical bone resorption. The results indicate that T. denticola has high pathogenicity, including dissemination to distant organs, further substantiating its potential importance in oral and linked systemic conditions
Mesoscopic Rydberg Gate based on Electromagnetically Induced Transparency
We demonstrate theoretically a parallelized C-NOT gate which allows to
entangle a mesoscopic ensemble of atoms with a single control atom in a single
step, with high fidelity and on a microsecond timescale. Our scheme relies on
the strong and long-ranged interaction between Rydberg atoms triggering
Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT). By this we can robustly
implement a conditional transfer of all ensemble atoms among two logical
states, depending on the state of the control atom. We outline a many body
interferometer which allows a comparison of two many-body quantum states by
performing a measurement of the control atom.Comment: published versio
Theoretical Analysis of a Large Momentum Beamsplitter using Bloch Oscillations
In this paper, we present the implementation of Bloch oscillations in an
atomic interferometer to increase the separation of the two interfering paths.
A numerical model, in very good agreement with the experiment, is developed.
The contrast of the interferometer and its sensitivity to phase fluctuations
and to intensity fluctuations are also calculated. We demonstrate that the
sensitivity to phase fluctuations can be significantly reduced by using a
suitable arrangement of Bloch oscillations pulses
