    Depuis le début des années 1990, 29 villages ont été aménagés par le HCR pour les réfugiés rapatriés au Laos. Les rapatriés ont reproduit des formes de construction et d'organisation spatiale propres à leurs cultures. Ils ont cloisonné des territoires en fonction des ethnies et des clans. Ils ont aussi rapporté de leur exil de éléments de modernité comme les activités économiques en réseau international et les réinvestissements productifs.     Evidence for short-range antiferromagnetic fluctuations in Kondo-insulating YbB12

    The spin dynamics of mixed-valence YbB12 has been studied by inelastic neutron scattering on a high-quality single crystal. In the Kondo-insulating regime realized at low temperature, the spectra exhibit a spin-gap structure with two sharp, dispersive, in-gap excitations at E = 14.5 and approximately 20 meV. The lower mode is shown to be associated with short-range correlations near the antiferromagnetic wave vector q0 = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2). Its properties are in overall agreement with those expected for a "spin exciton'' branch in an indirect hybridization gap semiconductor.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures ; submitted to Physical Review Letter

    It takes time to produce commodities, and different production technologies may take different lengths of time. Suppose that firms may switch between different production technologies that take different lengths of time. A natural implication of such a scenario is that not all firms would then offer their commodities in every period, i.e. firms’ total supply schedule would become a time-varying quantity. Based on a behavioral cobweb framework, we analytically demonstrate that commodity markets become unstable when firms switch too rapidly between production technologies that take different lengths of time. In particular, we observe that supply distortions lead to endogenous commodity price dynamics due to a mismatch between supply and demand

    Spontaneous deformation of the Fermi surface due to strong correlation in the two-dimensional t-J model

    Fermi surface of the two-dimensional t-J model is studied using the variational Monte Carlo method. We study the Gutzwiller projected d-wave superconducting state with an additional variational parameter t'_v corresponding to the next-nearest neighbor hopping term. It is found that the finite t'_v<0 gives the lowest variational energy in the wide range of hole-doping rates. The obtained momentum distribution function shows that the Fermi surface deforms spontaneously. It is also shown that the van Hove singularity is always located very close to the Fermi energy. Using the Gutzwiller approximation, we show that this spontaneous deformation is due to the Gutzwiller projection operator or the strong correlation.Comment: 4 pages, 3 eps figures, revte

    PER3 Polymorphism Predicts Cumulative Sleep Homeostatic but Not Neurobehavioral Changes to Chronic Partial Sleep Deprivation

    The variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorphism 5-repeat allele of the circadian gene PERIOD3 (PER3(5/5)) has been associated with cognitive decline at a specific circadian phase in response to a night of total sleep deprivation (TSD), relative to the 4-repeat allele (PER3(4/4)). PER3(5/5) has also been related to higher sleep homeostasis, which is thought to underlie this cognitive vulnerability. To date, no study has used a candidate gene approach to investigate the response to chronic partial sleep deprivation (PSD), a condition distinct from TSD and one commonly experienced by millions of people on a daily and persistent basis. We evaluated whether the PER3 VNTR polymorphism contributed to cumulative neurobehavioral deficits and sleep homeostatic responses during PSD.PER3(5/5) (n = 14), PER3(4/5) (n = 63) and PER3(4/4) (n = 52) healthy adults (aged 22-45 y) demonstrated large, but equivalent cumulative decreases in cognitive performance and physiological alertness, and cumulative increases in sleepiness across 5 nights of sleep restricted to 4 h per night. Such effects were accompanied by increasing daily inter-subject variability in all groups. The PER3 genotypes did not differ significantly at baseline in habitual sleep, physiological sleep structure, circadian phase, physiological sleepiness, cognitive performance, or subjective sleepiness, although during PSD, PER3(5/5) subjects had slightly but reliably elevated sleep homeostatic pressure as measured physiologically by EEG slow-wave energy in non-rapid eye movement sleep compared with PER3(4/4) subjects. PER3 genotypic and allelic frequencies did not differ significantly between Caucasians and African Americans.The PER3 VNTR polymorphism was not associated with individual differences in neurobehavioral responses to PSD, although it was related to one marker of sleep homoeostatic response during PSD. The comparability of PER3 genotypes at baseline and their equivalent inter-individual vulnerability to sleep restriction indicate that PER3 does not contribute to the neurobehavioral effects of chronic sleep loss

    Pressure Evolution of the Ferromagnetic and Field Re-entrant Superconductivity in URhGe

    Fine pressure (PP) and magnetic field (HH) tuning on the ferromagnetic superconductor URhGe are reported in order to clarify the interplay between the mass enhancement, low field superconductivity (SC) and field reentrant superconductivity (RSC) by electrical resistivity measurements. With increasing PP, the transition temperature and the upper critical field of the low field SC decrease slightly, while the RSC dome drastically shifts to higher fields and shrinks. The spin reorientation field HRH_{\rm R} also increases. At a pressure P1.8P\sim 1.8 GPa, the RSC has collapsed while the low field SC persists and may disappear only above 4 GPa. Via careful (P,H)(P, H) studies of the inelastic T2T^2 resistivity term, it is demonstrated that this drastic change is directly related with the PP dependence of the effective mass which determines the critical field of the low field SC and RSC on the basis of triplet SC without Pauli limiting field.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, to appear in Journal of the Physical Society of Japa

    Pressure Evolution of the Magnetic Field induced Ferromagnetic Fluctuation through the Pseudo-Metamagnetism of CeRu2Si2

    Resistivity measurements performed under pressure in the paramagnetic ground state of CeRu2Si2 are reported. They demonstrate that the relative change of effective mass through the pseudo metamagnetic transition is invariant under pressure. The results are compared with the first order metamagnetic transition due to the antiferromagnetism of Ce0.9La0.1Ru2Si2 which corresponds to the "negative" pressure of CeRu2Si2 by volume expansion. Finally, we describe the link between the spin-depairing of quasiparticles on CeRu2Si2 and that of Cooper pairs on the unconventional heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in J.     High energy spin excitations in YBa_2 Cu_3 O_{6.5}

    Inelastic neutron scattering has been used to obtain a comprehensive description of the absolute dynamical spin susceptibility χ(q,ω)\chi'' (q,\omega) of the underdoped superconducting cuprate YBa_2 Cu_3 O_{6.5} (Tc=52KT_c = 52 K) over a wide range of energies and temperatures (2meVω120meV2 meV \leq \hbar \omega \leq 120 meV and 5KT200K5K \leq T \leq 200K). Spin excitations of two different symmetries (even and odd under exchange of two adjacent CuO_2 layers) are observed which, surprisingly, are characterized by different temperature dependences. The excitations show dispersive behavior at high energies.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

    Supercritical biharmonic equations with power-type nonlinearity

    The biharmonic supercritical equation Δ2u=up1u\Delta^2u=|u|^{p-1}u, where n>4n>4 and p>(n+4)/(n4)p>(n+4)/(n-4), is studied in the whole space Rn\mathbb{R}^n as well as in a modified form with λ(1+u)p\lambda(1+u)^p as right-hand-side with an additional eigenvalue parameter λ>0\lambda>0 in the unit ball, in the latter case together with Dirichlet boundary conditions. As for entire regular radial solutions we prove oscillatory behaviour around the explicitly known radial {\it singular} solution, provided p((n+4)/(n4),pc)p\in((n+4)/(n-4),p_c), where pc((n+4)/(n4),]p_c\in ((n+4)/(n-4),\infty] is a further critical exponent, which was introduced in a recent work by Gazzola and the second author. The third author proved already that these oscillations do not occur in the complementing case, where ppcp\ge p_c. Concerning the Dirichlet problem we prove existence of at least one singular solution with corresponding eigenvalue parameter. Moreover, for the extremal solution in the bifurcation diagram for this nonlinear biharmonic eigenvalue problem, we prove smoothness as long as p((n+4)/(n4),pc)p\in((n+4)/(n-4),p_c)
