Una mirada a un grupo de nombres de lugar de reciente creación en un municipio español: algunas semejanzas y diferencias con los topónimos antiguos

The present work is focused on toponyms of recent creation. These new place names have generally received less attention among scholars than those with a long history, which have often generated passionate debates and academic papers about their origins. The group analyzed here was discarded from the index list resulting from a toponymy survey made in the village of Gata (Cáceres) in 2014. They are less than one hundred years old, and do not appear to be registered as toponyms in any known written source. However, their analysis reveals that the necessity for a social community to give names to the places it inhabits, and the process for the creation of new toponyms has essentially not changed for centuries.

The explanatory power of trust and commitment and stakeholders' salience : their influence on the reverse logistics programs performance

    Get PDF
There is a growing awareness among practitioners and scholars regarding the importance of Relationship Marketing and its advantages in the supply chain management context. This is particularly appropriate for Reverse Logistics (RL) activities, which are characterized by several relationships between different stakeholders and the firm. Drawing on multiple theoretical approaches, we propose that RL programs result from the combination of external, organizational, and individual factors. We emphasize the role of trust and commitment as key influential elements on the RL systems implementation and their subsequent performance

Cultural representations have great power in the creation of widely held beliefs. As western society has always tried to control women, thus it has created cultural artefacts illustrating the repression of women

Place names referring to the public ownership of land in Gata

This article analyzes a group of toponyms in Gata, in the province of Cáceres, which reflect the public ownership of the land named, mainly throughout the 15th and 16th centuries, when the town began to gain some importance because it belonged to the Military Order of Alcántara. From then on, the survival or disappearance of names has been subject to both linguistic and extra-linguistic conditions.peerReviewe

CFD models as a tool to analyze the performance of the hydraulic agitation system of an air-assisted sprayer

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the fluid velocities generated by the agitation system of an air-assisted sprayer was developed and validated by practical experiments in a laboratory. The model was developed considering different settings of the agitation system: Three water levels in the tank (1000, 2000, and 3000 L); two different numbers of active nozzles (2 or 4); and three working pressures of the agitation circuit (8, 10, or 12 bar). Actual measurements of the fluid velocity into the tank were taken using an acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV). CFD simulations made it possible to estimate fluid velocities at 38% of the measuring points with relative errors of less than 30%. Additionally, the CFD models have allowed the correct prediction of the general behavior of the fluid in the tank considering mean velocities depending on the setting parameters of the agitation system (water level in the tank, hydraulic circuit pressure, and number of active nozzles)

Biofunctionalization strategies on tantalum-based materials for osseointegrative applications

The use of tantalum as biomaterial for orthopedic applications is gaining considerable attention in the clinical practice because it presents an excellent chemical stability, body fluid resistance, biocompatibility, and it is more osteoconductive than titanium or cobalt-chromium alloys. Nonetheless, metallic biomaterials are commonly bioinert and may not provide fast and long-lasting interactions with surrounding tissues. The use of short cell adhesive peptides derived from the extracellular matrix has shown to improve cell adhesion and accelerate the implant’s biointegration in vivo. However, this strategy has been rarely applied to tantalum materials. In this work, we have studied two immobilization strategies (physical adsorption and covalent binding via silanization) to functionalize tantalum surfaces with a cell adhesive RGD peptide. Surfaces were used untreated or activated with either HNO3 or UV/ozone treatments. The process of biofunctionalization was characterized by means of physicochemical and biological methods. Physisorption of the RGD peptide on control and HNO3-treated tantalum surfaces significantly enhanced the attachment and spreading of osteoblast-like cells; however, no effect on cell adhesion was observed in ozone-treated samples. This effect was attributed to the inefficient binding of the peptide on these highly hydrophilic surfaces, as evidenced by contact angle measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In contrast, activation of tantalum with UV/ozone proved to be the most efficient method to support silanization and subsequent peptide attachment, displaying the highest values of cell adhesion. This study demonstrates that both physical adsorption and silanization are feasible methods to immobilize peptides onto tantalum-based materials, providing them with superior bioactivity.Peer Reviewe

Over last decades, the twinning - induced plasticity Fe-Mn-C (TWIP) steels have been the focus on huge amount of research works due to their prominent strength – ductility compounding which develops from the occurrence of extended mechanical twinning during plastic deformation under mechanical loads (Grässel and Frommeyer, 1998; Frommeyer et al., 2000; Cornette et al., 2005; Scott et al., 2006; Bouaziz et al., 2008; Hamada et al., 2010; Bouaziz et al., 2011; De Cooman et al., 2011; Galán et al., 2012; Gil Sevillano and De las Cuevas, 2012; Chen et al., 2013; De las Cuevas et al., 2014; Ghasri-Khouzani and McDermid, 2015; Pierce et al., 2015; De las Cuevas and Gil Sevillano, 2017). In TWIP steels, the fully austenitic microstructure can be retained by means of high level alloying with elements such as Mn, Al and Si. Al and Si are mainly used to adjust the magnitude of the stacking fault energy, gSFE, of austenite (Frommeyer et al., 2000). Furthermore, they also strengthen the steel by solid solution hardening and stabilize austenite owing to their ability of slowing down the precipitation of carbides, especially cementite, leaving more carbon available for the enrichment of austenite (Leslie and Rauch, 1978)
