Bio-activity of essential oils of Artemisia herba alba : effects on reproduction and adult mortality of a pest of stored Ephestia kuehniella (Lepidoptera)Our work reveals an insecticidal effect of essential oils extracted from aromatic plant Artemissia herba alba on population of insect pests Ephestia kuehniella. The biopesticide is adual mechanism of action. Administered in adults, the essential oil causes significant mortality compared with controls. Whilehis administration on pupae, it extending their pupal development and disrupts reproductive adults by extending the preoviposition period and reducing the period for depositing eggs asfertilized females, who can’t live more than one or two days, which reduces the number of eggs deposited

Generalized (\kappa ,\mu)-space forms are introduced and studied. We examine in depth the contact metric case and present examples for all possible dimensions. We also analyse the trans-Sasakian case.Comment: 20 pages, several changes have been done in this versio

Composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil from Algerian Warionia saharae Benth. & Hook.

International audienceThe essential oil of aerial parts of Warionia saharae was obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography/flame ionization detector (GC/FID), GC/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In total, forty-three constituents, mainly oxygenated mono- and sesquiterpenes, were identified representing 89.2% of the total oil. Sixteen samples of essential oil of W. saharae collected in three locations exhibited similar chemical compositions showing a chemical homogeneity. The essential oil showed poor antifungal activity against filamentous fungi, Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium herbarum, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus flavus with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values between 4 and 8 ÎĽL/mL

Evaluation of Utility System Impacts and Benefits of Optimally Dispatched Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (Revised)

Hybrid electric vehicles with the capability of being recharged from the grid may provide a significant decrease in oil consumption. These ''plug-in'' hybrids (PHEVs) will affect utility operations, adding additional electricity demand. Because many individual vehicles may be charged in the extended overnight period, and because the cost of wireless communication has decreased, there is a unique opportunity for utilities to directly control the charging of these vehicles at the precise times when normal electricity demand is at a minimum. This report evaluates the effects of optimal PHEV charging, under the assumption that utilities will indirectly or directly control when charging takes place, providing consumers with the absolute lowest cost of driving energy. By using low-cost off-peak electricity, PHEVs owners could purchase the drive energy equivalent to a gallon of gasoline for under 75 cents, assuming current national average residential electricity prices

Antimicrobial Activity of Ammodaucus leucotrichus Fruit Oil from Algerian Sahara

International audienceThree fruit oil samples of Ammodaucus leucotrichus Cosson & Durieu from Algerian Sahara were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC(RI), GC-MS and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The main compounds were perillaldehyde (87.0-87.9%) and limonene (7.4-8.2%). The antimicrobial effect of the essential oil was evaluated against bacteria, yeasts and filamentous fungi. High antibacterial activity was observed against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter cloaceae, Bacillus cereus and Salmonella typhimurium, with MIC values between 0.5-1.0 ÎĽL/mL. Fungal strains were also sensitive to the essential oil (MIC values: 0.25-0.75 ÎĽL/mL).The most potent activity was observed against the filamentous fungi, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus flavus (0.25-0.50 ÎĽL/mL)
