Superficieibacter electus gen. nov., sp. nov., an extended-spectrum β-lactamase possessing member of the enterobacteriaceae family, isolated from Intensive Care Unit surfaces
<p>Two Gram-negative bacilli strains, designated BP-1(T) and BP-2, were recovered from two different Intensive Care Unit surfaces during a longitudinal survey in Pakistan. Both strains were unidentified using the bioMerieux VITEK MS IVD v2.3.3 and Bruker BioTyper MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry platforms. To more precisely determine the taxonomic identity of BP-1(T) and BP-2, we employed a biochemical and phylogenomic approach. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain BP-1(T) had the highest identity to Citrobacter farmeri CDC 2991-81(T) (98.63%) Citrobacter amalonaticus CECT 863(T) (98.56%), Citrobacter sedlakii NBRC 105722(T) (97.74%) and Citrobacter rodentium NBRC 105723(T) (97.74%). The biochemical utilization scheme of BP-1(T) using the Analytic Profile Index for Enterobacteriaceae (API20E) indicated its enzymatic functions are unique within the Enterobacteriaceae but most closely resemble Kluyvera spp., Enterobacter cloacae and Citrobacter koseri/farmeri. Phylogenomic analysis of the shared genes between BP-1(T), BP-2 and type strains from Kluyvera, Citrobacter, Escherichia, Salmonella, Kosakonia, Siccibacter and Shigella indicate that BP-1(T) and BP-2 isolates form a distinct branch from these genera. Average Nucleotide Identity analysis indicates that BP-1(T) and BP-2 are the same species. The biochemical and phylogenomic analysis indicate strains BP-1(T) and BP-2 represent a novel species from a new genus within the Enterobacteriaceae family, for which the name Superficieibacter electus gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is BP-1(T) (= ATCC BAA-2937, = NBRC 113412).</p
Welfare and Revenue Guarantees for Competitive Bundling Equilibrium
We study equilibria of markets with heterogeneous indivisible goods and
consumers with combinatorial preferences. It is well known that a
competitive equilibrium is not guaranteed to exist when valuations are not
gross substitutes. Given the widespread use of bundling in real-life markets,
we study its role as a stabilizing and coordinating device by considering the
notion of \emph{competitive bundling equilibrium}: a competitive equilibrium
over the market induced by partitioning the goods for sale into fixed bundles.
Compared to other equilibrium concepts involving bundles, this notion has the
advantage of simulatneous succinctness ( prices) and market clearance.
Our first set of results concern welfare guarantees. We show that in markets
where consumers care only about the number of goods they receive (known as
multi-unit or homogeneous markets), even in the presence of complementarities,
there always exists a competitive bundling equilibrium that guarantees a
logarithmic fraction of the optimal welfare, and this guarantee is tight. We
also establish non-trivial welfare guarantees for general markets, two-consumer
markets, and markets where the consumer valuations are additive up to a fixed
budget (budget-additive).
Our second set of results concern revenue guarantees. Motivated by the fact
that the revenue extracted in a standard competitive equilibrium may be zero
(even with simple unit-demand consumers), we show that for natural subclasses
of gross substitutes valuations, there always exists a competitive bundling
equilibrium that extracts a logarithmic fraction of the optimal welfare, and
this guarantee is tight. The notion of competitive bundling equilibrium can
thus be useful even in markets which possess a standard competitive
equilibrium
Influence of the mannoproteins of different strains of Starmerella bacillaris used in single and sequential fermentations on foamability, tartaric and protein stabilities of wines
Aim: In this work, seven strains of Starmerella bacillaris were analysed for their ability to release polysaccharides during alcoholic fermentation (AF), both in single-strain and in sequential AF together with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Methods and results: A synthetic polysaccharide-free must was used to characterise the mannoproteins (MPs) released. The MPs were quantified, characterised in terms of carbohydrate composition, and tested to assess their ability to reduce protein and tartrate instabilities and their ability to affect the foaming properties of wine. Conclusions: All the tested strains in sequential AF increased the total MPs production. Moreover, the strains affected the MPs properties in different ways regarding tartaric and protein stabilities. The MPs released in sequential AF by some S. bacillaris strains showed a significant effect on protein stabilisation and tartaric stability. An effect on the foamability was found for MPs obtained in single-strain AFs of S. bacillaris
Evidence of Vortices on the Insulating Side of the Superconductor-Insulator Transition
The magnetoresistance of ultrathin insulating films of Bi has been studied
with magnetic fields applied parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the
sample. Deep in the strongly localized regime, the magnetoresistance is
negative and independent of field orientation. As film thicknesses increase,
the magnetoresistance becomes positive, and a difference between values
measured in perpendicular and parallel fields appears, which is a linear
function of the magnetic field and is positive. This is not consistent with the
quantum interference picture. We suggest that it is due to vortices present on
the insulating side of the superconductor-insulator transition.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

The model is a version of a finite period bargaining model with asymmetric information and one-sided offers. Do audit fees and audit hours influence credit ratings?: A comparative analysis of Big4 vs Non-Big4
We examine the relationship between credit ratings / changes and audit fees (hours) for Big4 and
Non-Big4 firms. Audit fee (hours) may be considered as a default risk metric for credit ratings agencies.
However, firms audited by Big4 are larger, better performing and operate with lower leverage compared
to firms followed by Non-Big4. Therefore, the association between audit fee (hours) may be different for
firms followed by Big4 and Non-Big4 audit firms. We find that there is a negative association between
audit fees and credit ratings for firms followed by Big4 audit firms. However, we find an insignificant
relation for firms followed by Non-Big4. We conjecture the different association due to the Big4 firms
having more robust accounting procedures; Big4 firms must offer competitive audit fees because they
are engaged in fierce competition with other Big4 firms. Moreover, Big4 and Non-Big4 firms have
different relationships with their clients because Non-Big4 firms are more income dependent on their
clients.
Using a sample of 1,717 firm–year observations between 2002 and 2013, we establish a relation
between audit fees in period t and credit ratings in period t+1, for firms followed by Big4 auditors. We
do not find a significant relation for firms followed by Non-Nig4 firms, suggesting that credit ratings
agencies perceive audit fee differently for Big4 and Non-Big4 firms. Client firms followed by Big4 auditors
that experience a credit rating change in period t+1 pay lower audit fees in period t compared to firms
that do not experience a credit rating change. Our additional analysis suggests a different association
between firms audit fees and firm performance for firms that experience a credit rating increase and
decrease. Firms that experience a credit ratings increase in period t+1 have strong performance and
lower audit fees in period t. On the other hand, firms that experience a credit rating decrease have
weak financial performance and negative audit fees compared to firms that do not experience a credit
ratings change. Our results suggest that audit fees combined with financial performance influence a
credit ratings agency' perception of default risk

Search for new phenomena with the MT2 variable in the all-hadronic final state produced in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV.
A search for new phenomena is performed using events with jets and significant transverse momentum imbalance, as inferred through the MT2 variable. The results are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions collected in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1 . No excess event yield is observed above the predicted standard model background, and the results are interpreted as exclusion limits at 95% confidence level on the masses of predicted particles in a variety of simplified models of R-parity conserving supersymmetry. Depending on the details of the model, 95% confidence level lower limits on the gluino (light-flavor squark) masses are placed up to 2025 (1550) GeV . Mass limits as high as 1070 (1175) GeV are set on the masses of top (bottom) squarks. Information is provided to enable re-interpretation of these results, including model-independent limits on the number of non-standard model events for a set of simplified, inclusive search regions
