The 0nbb-decay nuclear matrix elements with self-consistent short-range correlations

A self-consistent calculation of nuclear matrix elements of the neutrinoless double beta decays (0nbb) of 76Ge, 82Se, 96Zr, 100Mo, 116Cd, 128Te, 130Te and 130Xe is presented in the framework of the renormalized quasiparticle random phase approximation (RQRPA) and the standard QRPA. The pairing and residual interactions as well as the two-nucleon short-range correlations are for the first time derived from the same modern realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials, namely from charge-dependent Bonn potential (CD-Bonn) and the Argonne V18 potential. In a comparison with the traditional approach of using the Miller-Spencer Jastrow correlations matrix elements for the 0nbb-decay are obtained, which are larger in magnitude. We analyze the differences among various two-nucleon correlations including those of the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM) and quantify the uncertainties in the calculated 0nbb-decay matrix elements.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure

The Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Management of Symptoms in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

Objectives: To carry out a systematic review of literature examining the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) alongside pharmacological treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms compared to pharmacological treatments (standard care) without CBT. Methods: The Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Quality Care was used as the theoretical framework for this review of literature. Databases utilized: CINAHL, OneSearch, PubMed, and MedLine. The inclusion criteria for this search were: CBT as an intervention, articles published within 2006-2016, and English full text articles. Exclusion criteria were: participants less than 18 years of age, interventions other than CBT, or any other type of arthritis that was not RA. Out of 96 articles found, 10 were included in this review of literature. Results: Out of the 10 articles chosen for this review, included were: 51 randomized controlled trials, 31 studies, 47 transcripts, and 5,345 participants. In seven articles pain and depression symptoms showed improvement with CBT; six articles showed fatigue and physical activity improved. However, only one demonstrated evidence that CBT improved anxiety symptoms. Conclusion: This review of literature focused on how CBT in combination with standard care for RA (pharmacological therapy) would affect symptom management. Evidence suggests that CBT is an effective treatment intervention alongside pharmacological therapy on management of symptoms in RA. Research evaluating the long-term effects, overall quality of life, and maintenance therapy related to CBT should be explored further

Short-range and tensor correlations in the 16^{16}O(e,e'pn) reaction

The cross sections for electron induced two-nucleon knockout reactions are evaluated for the example of the 16^{16}O(e,e'pn)14^{14}N reaction leading to discrete states in the residual nucleus 14^{14}N. These calculations account for the effects of nucleon-nucleon correlations and include the contributions of two-body meson exchange currents as the pion seagull, pion in flight and the isobar current contribution. The effects of short-range as well as tensor correlations are calculated within the framework of the coupled cluster method employing the Argonne V14 potential as a model for a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. The relative importance of correlation effects as compared to the contribution of the meson exchange currents depends on the final state of the residual nucleus. The cross section leading to specific states, like e.g. the ground state of 14^{14}N, is rather sensitive to the details of the correlated wave function.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures include

German Multicenter Study Analyzing Antimicrobial Activity of Ceftazidime-Avibactam of Clinical Meropenem-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates Using a Commercially Available Broth Microdilution Assay

Multidrug resistance is an emerging healthcare issue, especially concerning Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In this multicenter study, P. aeruginosa isolates with resistance against meropenem detected by routine methods were collected and tested for carbapenemase production and susceptibility against ceftazidime-avibactam. Meropenem-resistant isolates of P. aeruginosa from various clinical materials were collected at 11 tertiary care hospitals in Germany from 2017–2019. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined via microdilution plates (MICRONAUT-S) of ceftazidime-avibactam and meropenem at each center. Detection of the presence of carbapenemases was performed by PCR or immunochromatography. For meropenem-resistant isolates (n = 448), the MIC range of ceftazidime-avibactam was 0.25–128 mg/L, MIC90 was 128 mg/L and MIC50 was 16 mg/L. According to EUCAST clinical breakpoints, 213 of all meropenem-resistant P. aeruginosa isolates were categorized as susceptible (47.5%) to ceftazidime-avibactam. Metallo-β-lactamases (MBL) could be detected in 122 isolates (27.3%). The MIC range of ceftazidime-avibactam in MBL-positive isolates was 4–128 mg/L, MIC90 was >128 mg/L and MIC50 was 32 mg/L. There was strong variation in the prevalence of MBL-positive isolates among centers. Our in vitro results support ceftazidimeavibactam as a treatment option against infections caused by meropenem-resistant, MBL-negative P. aeruginosa

Electron-beam-induced patterned deposition of allylcyclopentadienyl palladium using scanning tunneling microscopy

    Get PDF
Scanning tunneling microscopy has been used to study the electron-induced decomposition of allylcyclopentadienyl palladium [Pd(η3-C3H5)( η5-C5H5)] and subsequent deposition on a Si(111) surface. Deposition occurs via an electron impact mechanism on either the tip or surface, depending on the bias polarity, and is observed with voltages of 2.75 V. This is close to the predicted condensed phase dissociation energy of 2.3 eV for Pd(η3-C3H5)(η5-C5H5)→Pd+C3H5+C5H5. Metallic deposits of nanometer dimensions can be written on the surface. Deposition onto an electrochemically etched tip results in a narrow conductive secondary tip which gives improved spatial resolution when imaging high-aspect ratio features on the surface. ©1994 American Institute of Physics
