Predictive Analysis of Studentsā Learning Performance Using Data Mining Techniques: A Comparative Study of Feature Selection Methods
The utilization of data mining techniques for the prompt prediction of academic success has gained significant importance in the current era. There is an increasing interest in utilizing these methodologies to forecast the academic performance of students, thereby facilitating educators to intervene and furnish suitable assistance when required. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal methods for feature engineering and selection in the context of regression and classification tasks. This study compared the Boruta algorithm and Lasso regression for regression, and Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) and Random Forest Importance (RFI) for classification. According to the findings, Gradient Boost for the regression part of this study had the least Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root-Mean-Square Error (RMSE) of 12.93 and 18.28, respectively, in the case of the Boruta selection method. In contrast, RFI was found to be the superior classification method, yielding an accuracy rate of 78% in the classification part. This research emphasized the significance of employing appropriate feature engineering and selection methodologies to enhance the efficacy of machine learning algorithms. Using a diverse set of machine learning techniques, this study analyzed the OULA dataset, focusing on both feature engineering and selection. Our approach was to systematically compare the performance of different models, leading to insights about the most effective strategies for predicting student success
Analysing Knowledge-Sharing Practices Using Activity Theory in the SME Organisation
An activity theory method is used to analyse the knowledge-sharing practices. The activity theory emphasises the necessity of analysing the SME organisation as a whole. In the context of knowledge-sharing practices, activity theory is used to collect interconnected parts of SME practices. A cross-sectional design was used to study the relationship among relationship commitment, knowledge-sharing practices, employee development, team performance, and a moderating role of social identification. The majority of the SMEs were established 3ā5 years ago (46.3%), and 84.4% were private, with an employee range of less than 50 (73.1%). Furthermore, 82.1% of the SMEs in this study were in the growth stage. Knowledge-sharing practices have a significant positive effect on team performance (0.278, [Formula: see text]), with a moderating impact of role and behaviour on knowledge-sharing practices and team performance (0.178, [Formula: see text]). The findings have confirmed the significant and positive effects of knowledge-sharing practices on the mediation of employee development (0.045, [Formula: see text]). The activity theory models for knowledge-sharing practices emphasise the contextual nature of knowledge sharing and ensure systematic evaluation
MPEG-4 video transmission using distributed TDMA MAC protocol over IEEE 802.15.4 wireless technology
The issues of green technology nowadays give an inspiration to the researcher to make all the future design to be energy efficient. Medium Access Control (MAC) layer is the most effective layer to provide energy efficient due to its ability to control the physical radio directly. One of the important applications in the future is a video transmission that can be transmitted with low-cost and low power consumption. MPEG-4 is one of the international standards for moving video. MPEG-4 provide better compression and primarily design at low bit rate communication. In order to achieve good quality for video application, the design at MAC layer must be strong. Therefore, to increase the performance of the MPEG-4 in IEEE 802.15.4, in this paper we propose a cross layer design between MAC layer and Application layer. A priority queue will be implemented at MAC scheduling depends on the level of frame important in MPEG-4 format frame. A distributed Time division Multiple Access (TDMA) will be used for MAC protocol to provide reliable data transmission for high priority frame
Effect of Ocimum tenuiflorum Leaf Extract against Infective Endocarditis
The ever increasing resistance of pathogens to antibiotics as well as the undesirable side effects of certain antimicrobial agents has necessitated the discovery of novel natural products. The ethanolic extract of O. tenuiflorum was investigated against S. aureus isolate which is a major pathogen causing infective endocarditis. The total phenolic content in O. tenuiflorum was found to be 1289 Ī¼g gallic acid equivalent/g and HPLC profile revealed the presence of catechin, Caffeic acid and p-coumaric acid. The antibacterial profile of O. tenuiflorum against S. aureus isolate from infective endocarditis patients exhibited significant inhibition at the MIC of 50 Ī¼g/ml and the standard antibiotic Vancomycin showed inhibition at 40 ng/ml. Percent inhibition of viable growth was found to be >95% and the scanning electron micrographs (SEM) revealed the disruption of the membrane of S. aureus treated with O. tenuiflorum extract. The antimicrobial activity correlates with phenolic content of the extract. These results demonstrate the potency of O. tenuiflorum, could serve as a new source of antimicrobials with potential applications and related health benefits
h3 gourmet: great to go upmarket, but are people willing to pay for the difference?
This case study addresses the pitfalls of internationalization and entrepreneurial decision-making in the creation of relevant differentiation for a gourmet fast-food concept, whose foundations lay in good old fashioned fast food rules dressed in a gourmet experience. In standardizing their market offer and having engaged in a frantic expansion program, h3, the organization under scrutiny here (and that illustrates business and management research methods in practice) has had to face serious strategic challenges and concerns. Initially limited to the confines of their home nation, Portugal, with subsequent expansion to Poland, Spain and Brazil, the chosen strategy of geographical diversification cannot be said to have been an indisputable success, as the organization is currently witnessing serious divestment decisions away from the Polish and Spanish markets. The Brazilian market on the other hand appears to be thriving. Their concept is that of gourmet burgers with a fast food logistics and service culture underpinning it. Competition has been tough as several competitors have flocked into the market with pretty much the same idea. The company has sought to establish an emotional difference in what is increasingly a saturated market, although the h3 brand is quickly becoming synonymous with a novel association that has been emerging in the minds of consumers, gourmet and fast food coupled together in one food business concept. However, some service elements and customization characteristics (co-creation possibilities) may give the business a unique angle for relevant market differentiation. Whilst there is no profound emotional difference that would otherwise have been present via the association with a well-recognized and established brand, h3 appears on the surface to have an even more worrying problem, in that they are apparently stuck in the middle in terms of their strategic outlook into the future, as on the one hand their cost structure is not fast food like and on the other, their ethos and potential basis for differentiation, gourmet meals is susceptible to imitation by any middle of the road competitor with serious intentions of coming into a profitable market. In addition to possibly not having enough differentiation they are also not ābrandedā sufficientlyā¦how best to tackle the future is then their plight
Towards Designing a Knowledge Sharing System for Higher Learning Institutions in the UAE Based on the Social Feature Framework
Numerous ICT instruments, such as communication tools, social media platforms, and collaborative software, bolster and facilitate knowledge sharing activities. Determining the vital success factors for knowledge sharing within its unique context is argued to be essential before implementing it. Therefore, it is imperative to define domain-specific critical success factors when envisioning the design of a knowledge sharing system. This research paper introduces the blueprint for an Academic Knowledge Sharing System (AKSS), rooted in an essential success framework tailored to knowledge sharing to deploy within an academic institution. In this regard, an extensive exploration of the relevant literature led to the formulation of the research hypothesis that guided the construction of a questionnaire targeting university students through the online platform Pollfish, utilizing a quantitative approach to investigate, while the data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 22. The study unveils critical factors, including encouragement, acknowledgment, a reward system, fostering a knowledge sharing culture, and leading by example, contributing to developing the knowledge sharing framework. Furthermore, the study illustrates how this framework seamlessly integrated into the design, implementation, and execution of the Academic Knowledge Sharing System (AKSS)
Perceived sources of stress among Malaysian dental students
Objectives: The study objectives were to identify the stress levels and to explore the impact of studentsā year of study and gender on the perceived sources of stress among Malaysian dental students.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving dental students from year one to year five from private and public universities in Malaysia. The study was formally approved by the Research and Ethics Committee, International Medical University Malaysia. Dental Environment Stress (DES) questionnaire was used for data collection and the gathered data were analyzed using SPSSĀ® version 18. The Kruskal-Wallis and the Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare stress items across various academic years and universities.
Results: A total of five hundred and twenty nine (529) students participated in this study. Fear of failing the course at the end of year exams (mean stress level=5.57); concerns regarding completion of clinical work (mean=5.30); and examination results and grades (mean=5.27) were found as top stressors among dental students. Female students had higher stress scores than males with respect to personal issues, academic performance, educational environment and learning of clinical skills. Students from public universities had higher stress scores than their counterparts from private universities.
Conclusion: The Malaysian dental students reported higher levels of stress. Present study identified stressors affecting dental studentsā academic life, and highlights the importance of stress management programs and other measures to minimize the impact of stress on both academic and personal lives of the students

densities, microcanonical entropies are deduced. The high -energy part
of the RSF is described by the giant electric dipole resonance. A significant
