    Spin dynamics in hole-doped two-dimensional S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets: ^{63}Cu NQR relaxation in La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 for x0.04x\leq 0.04

The effects on the correlated Cu^{2+} S = 1/2 spin dynamics in the paramagnetic phase of La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 (for x0.04x \lesssim 0.04) due to the injection of holes are studied by means of ^{63}Cu NQR spin-lattice relaxation time T_1 measurements. The results are discussed in the framework of the connection between T_1 and the in-plane magnetic correlation length ξ2D(x,T)\xi_{2D}(x,T). It is found that at high temperatures the system remains in the renormalized classical regime, with a spin stiffness constant ρs(x)\rho_s(x) reduced by small doping to an extent larger than the one due to Zn doping. For x0.02x\gtrsim 0.02 the effect of doping on ρs(x)\rho_s(x) appears to level off. The values for ρs(x)\rho_s(x) derived from T_1 for T500T\gtrsim 500 K are much larger than the ones estimated from the temperature behavior of sublattice magnetization in the ordered phase (TTNT\leq T_N). It is argued that these features are consistent with the hypothesis of formation of stripes of microsegregated holes.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

Multiple Thresholds in a Model System of Noisy Ion Channels

Voltage-activated ion channels vary randomly between open and closed states, influenced by the membrane potential and other factors. Signal transduction is enhanced by noise in a simple ion channel model. The enhancement occurs in a finite range of signals; the range can be extended using populations of channels. The range increases more rapidly in multiple-threshold channel populations than in single-threshold populations. The diversity of ion channels may thus be present as a strategy to reduce the metabolic costs of handling a broad class of electrochemical signals.Comment: REVTeX 4, 5 pages, 4 figures; added paragrap

Enhanced quasiparticle heat conduction of the multigap superconductor Lu2Fe3Si5

The thermal transport measurements have been made on the Fe-based superconductor Lu2Fe3Si5 (Tc ~ 6 K) down to a very low temperature Tc/120. The field and temperature dependences of the thermal conductivity confirm the multigap superconductivity with fully opened gaps on the whole Fermi surfaces. In comparison to MgB2 as a typical example of the multigap superconductor in a p-electron system, Lu2Fe3Si5 reveals a remarkably enhanced quasiparticle heat conduction in the mixed state. The results can be interpreted as a consequence of the electronic correlations derived from Fe 3d-electrons.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Disorder-sensitive superconductivity in the iron silicide Lu2_2Fe3_3Si5_5 studied by the Lu-site substitutions

We studied effect of non-magnetic and magnetic impurities on superconductivity in Lu2_2Fe3_3Si5_5 by small amount substitution of the Lu site, which investigated structural, magnetic, and electrical properties of non-magnetic (Lu1x_{1-x}Scx_x)2_2Fe3_3Si5_5, (Lu1x_{1-x}Yx_x)2_2Fe3_3Si5_5, and magnetic (Lu1x_{1-x}Dyx_x)2_2Fe3_3Si5_5. The rapid depression of TcT_c by non-magnetic impurities in accordance with the increase of residual resistivity reveals the strong pair breaking dominated by disorder. We provide compelling evidence for the sign reversal of the superconducting order parameter in Lu2_2Fe3_3Si5_5.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

The development and validation of questionnaire to assess the collaboration and teamwork between doctors and nurses in public hospital in China

This study reports the development and psychometric properties of a Chinese in-strument to assess doctor-nurse teamwork and collaboration. 398 doctors and nurses participated in the study. Feedback from experts with international medical or nursing background and doctors and nurses working in hospitals in China informed the questionnaire refinement. Through validity and reliability test, a 26-item questionnaire was developed. Three were identified. The overall questionnaire as well as each factor had high construct validity. The internal consistency reliabil-ity and test-retest reliability are also satis-factory.published_or_final_versio

The Work-related Collaboration among Doctor-Nurse Scale (WCDNS) was ad-ministered to 398 doctors and nurses working in one of two hospitals in Guangzhou to assess 1) inter professional (doctor-nurse) differences in collaboration and teamwork and 2) inter hospital (general-specialist) differences in doctor nurse collaboration. Significant between profession and hospital differences were observed. Implications for future studies in doctor-nurse collaboration are discussed.published_or_final_versio

A Chandra Study of the Dense Globular Cluster Terzan 5

We report a Chandra ACIS-I observation of the dense globular cluster Terzan 5. The previously known transient low-mass x-ray binary (LMXB) EXO 1745-248 in the cluster entered a rare high state during our August 2000 observation, complicating the analysis. Nevertheless nine additional sources clearly associated with the cluster are also detected, ranging from L_X(0.5-2.5 keV)=5.6*10^{32} down to 8.6*10^{31} ergs/s. Their X-ray colors and luminosities, and spectral fitting, indicate that five of them are probably cataclysmic variables, and four are likely quiescent LMXBs containing neutron stars. We estimate the total number of sources between L_X(0.5-2.5 keV)=10^{32} and 10^{33} ergs/s as 11.4^{+4.7}_{-1.8} by the use of artificial point source tests, and note that the numbers of X-ray sources are similar to those detected in NGC 6440. The improved X-ray position allowed us to identify a plausible infrared counterpart to EXO 1745-248 on our 1998 Hubble Space Telescope NICMOS images. This blue star (F110W=18.48, F187W=17.30) lies within 0.2'' of the boresighted LMXB position. Simultaneous Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) spectra, combined with the Chandra spectrum, indicate that EXO 1745-248 is an ultracompact binary system, and show a strong broad 6.55 keV iron line and an 8 keV smeared reflection edge.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, accepted to Ap
