Stacking Simulations for Compton Positron sources of Future Linear Colliders

    Get PDF
The Compton positron source of a future linear collider must obtain the target bunch population by accumulating a large number of positron packets, arriving either in a number of bursts from a ‘Compton ring’, with intermediate damping of the scattering electron beam, or quasicontinually from a ‘Compton energy recovery linac’. We present simulation results for the longitudinal stacking of Compton positrons in the ILC damping ring (DR) and the CLIC pre-damping ring (PDR), discussing parameter optimization, stacking efficiency, possible further improvements, and outstanding questions

Oil quality and aroma composition of 'Chemlali' olive trees (Olea europaea L.) under three irrigation regimes

    Get PDF
The present work focused on the chemical composition of monovarietal virgin olive oil from the cultivar Chemlali cultivated in the South of Tunisia: sub-arid zone under three different irrigation regimes: stressed, moderate and well irrigation treatment with the restitution of 50, 75 and 100% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), respectively. Quality characteristics (acidity and peroxide value) and chemical data (antioxidant compound, fatty acids volatile compounds and oxidative stability) were studied in addition to the pomological characteristic of olive fruit. Results show that there were significant differences observed in oil composition according to the irrigation regime applied. Total phenols, bitterness intensity and LOX products content showed the highest values for low irrigation regime, whereas polyunsaturated fatty acid and oxidative susceptibility values had highest values for olive oil from well irrigated trees. Analytic characteristic of fruits showed the highest values of pulp/stone ratios from olive trees irrigated by the highest amount of wate

ERL Scheme for Compton Polarised Positron Sources

International audienceOne of the main challenges for the future linear colliders projects (ILC and CLIC) is to design an efficient positron source taking into account the constraints imposed by the target heating. At present, different schemes have been analysed to produce high energy gammas and to convert them in an amorphous target. One of them considers the possibility to boost the energy of the backscattered photons of a laser pulse by Compton effect. This method is very attractive since the source is independent from the main Linac and since the photon helicity is conserved in Compton scattering and subsequently transferred to the produced pairs. This allows the physics experiments disposing of both positron and electron polarised sources. Different schemes have been proposed to provide the electron beam for the Compton collisions. taking into account the constraint imposed by the low value of the Thomson cross section. One of the explored possibilities is to design an ERL with relatively low repetition frequency, high charge per pulse and then to stack the produced positrons in an accumulation ring. Different considerations on this scheme will be illustrated and the main constraints discussed. MO6RFP06

Positron Production and Capture based on Low Energy Electrons for SuperB

TUPEB057International audienceProviding a high quality and sufficient high current positron beam for the ultra high luminosity B-factory SuperB is a major goal. In this paper a proposition for positrons production and capture scheme based on low energy electrons up to1 GeV is presented. For this technique, several types of flux concentrator used to capture the positrons are being studied. The following accelerating section bringing the positrons up to 280 MeV and the total yield for L-band and S-band type accelerators are given. Also the result of the benchmark between ASTRA and a LAL code based on Geant4 toolkit simulation is discussed

Morphology of the foramen magnum in young Eastern-European adults

Background: The foramen magnum is an important anatomical opening in the base of the skull through which the posterior cranial fossa communicates with the vertebral canal. It is also related to a number of pathological conditions including Chiari malformations, various tumours, and occipital dysplasias. The aim of the study was to evaluate the morphology of the foramen magnum in adult individuals in relation to sex. Material and methods: The morphology of the foramen magnum was evaluated using 3D computer tomography images in 313 individuals (142 male, 171 female) aged 20–30 years. Results: The mean values of the foramen length (37.06 ± 3.07 vs. 35.47 ± 2.60 mm), breadth (32.98 ± 2.78 vs. 30.95 ± 2.71 mm) and area (877.40 ± 131.64 vs. 781.57 ± 93.74 mm2) were significantly higher in males than in females. A significant, positive correlation was found between foramen length and breadth. Significant correlations were reported for breadth and area of the foramen magnum and corresponding external cranial diameters in females. Round as well as longitudinal and horizontal oval-like types of the foramen shape were established according to the breadth/length index of the structure. All the cranial and foramen measurements were significantly higher in individuals with round-like type of the foramen magnum. Conclusions: There was a sexual dimorphism of the foramen magnum among the examined individuals. It was related mainly to its linear diameters and area, not to the shape. Unlike males, female skulls had higher correlation between the examined parameters of the foramen and proper external cranial measurements, which indicates more homogeneous growth in girls
