Prospects of controlling the propagation of high power THz radiation by passive optical elements including 3D printed
Different types of optical elements for controlling high power THz radiation were studied. Controlling was performed utilizing amplitude modulation of the electric field and effective spatial modulation of the complex dielectric susceptibility in the volume of the THz filter. We make a comparison of attenuation efficiency of various options of 3D printed filters when ABS filament is mixed with perovskite microparticles. Another type of filter was obtained by the deposition of magnetic particles in the presence of an external magnetic field in a transparent polymer matrix. Industrial isotropic cut-off filters based on layered meta structures have also been investigated. A comparison is made of the efficiency of attenuation of linearly polarized THz radiation with homemade band-pass polarizers obtained by etching copper from a flexible polyimide substrate and industrial filters. Filters and polarizers created using 3D printing, or by deposition of polymer matrix with magnetic particles under external field, are attractive cost effective elements
Dielectric properties of BiB3O6 crystal in the sub-THz range
We present the thorough studies of dielectric properties of BiB3O6 (BIBO) crystal in the sub-THz range. We observe a large birefringence Δn = nZ −nX = 1.5 and the values of absorption coefficients of all three axes to be less than 0.5 cm−1. The difference from visible range in angle ϕ between the axes z and X is found to be more than 6°. The simulated phase-matching curves show the optimal value of the angle θ to be around 25.5°±1° for an efficient millimeter-wave generation under the pump of 1064 nm laser radiation
Calculation of T_ odd effects in $"" sup 205_TIF including electron correlation
A method and codes for two-step correlation calculation of heavy-atom
molecules have been developed, employing the generalized relativistic effective
core potential and relativistic coupled cluster (RCC) methods at the first
step, followed by nonvariational one-center restoration of proper
four-component spinors in the heavy cores. Electron correlation is included for
the first time in an ab initio calculation of the interaction of the permanent
P,T-odd proton electric dipole moment with the internal electromagnetic field
in a molecule. The calculation is performed for the ground state of TlF at the
experimental equilibrium, R_e=2.0844 A, and at R=2.1 A, with spin-orbit and
correlation effects included by RCC. Calculated results with single cluster
amplitudes only are in good agreement (3% and 1%) with recent
Dirac-Hartree-Fock (DHF) values of the magnetic parameter M; the larger
differences occurring between present and DHF volume parameter (X) values, as
well as between the two DHF calculations, are explained. Inclusion of electron
correlation by GRECP/RCC with single and double excitations has a major effect
on the P,T-odd parameters, decreasing M by 17% and X by 22%.Comment: 5 pages, REVTeX4 style Accepted for publication in Phys.Rev.Letter
Millimetre-wave range optical properties of BIBO
We present the thorough studies of optical properties of BiB3O6 (BIBO) crystal in the millimeter-wave (subterahertz) range. We observe a large birefringence Δn = nZ −nX = 1.5 and the values of absorption coefficients of all three axes to be less than 0.5 cm−1 at the frequency of 0.3 THz. The difference from visible range in angle ϕ between the dielectric axis z and crystallophysical axis X is found to be more than 6°. The simulated phase-matching curves in the xz plane of the crystal show the optimal value of the angle θ to be around 25.5°±1° for an efficient millimeter-wave generation under the pump of 1064 nm laser radiation
Orbitally Degenerate Spin-1 Model for Insulating V2O3
Motivated by recent neutron, X-ray absorption and resonant scattering
experiments, we revisit the electronic structure of V2O3. We propose a model in
which S=1 V3+ ions are coupled in the vertical V-V pairs forming two-fold
orbitally degenerate configurations with S=2. Ferro-orbital ordering of the V-V
pairs gives a description which is consistent with all experiments in the
antiferromagnetic insulating phase.Comment: 4 pages, including three figure
Evidence for short range orbital order in paramagnetic insulating (Al,V)_2O_3
The local structure of (Al_0.06V_0.94)_2O_3 in the paramagnetic insulating
(PI) and antiferromagnetically ordered insulating (AFI) phase has been
investigated using hard and soft x-ray absorption techniques. It is shown that:
1) on a local scale, the symmetry of the vanadium sites in both the PI and the
AFI phase is the same; and 2) the vanadium 3d - oxygen 2p hybridization, as
gauged by the oxygen 1s absorption edge, is the same for both phases, but
distinctly different from the paramagnetic metallic phase of pure V_2O_3. These
findings can be understood in the context of a recently proposed model which
relates the long range monoclinic distortion of the antiferromagnetically
ordered state to orbital ordering, if orbital short range order in the PI phase
is assumed. The measured anisotropy of the x-ray absorption spectra is
discussed in relation to spin-polarized density functional calculations.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
