Latent variables and the network perspective
International audienceWe discuss the latent variables construct, particularly in regard to the following: that latent variables are considered as the sole explanatory factor of a disorder; that pragmatic concerns are ignored; and that the relationship of these variables to biological markers is not addressed. Further, we comment on the relationship between bridge symptoms and causality, and discuss the proposal in relationship to other constructs (endophenotypes, connectionist-inspired networks)
Dimers and chains of {3d-4f} single molecule magnets constructed from heterobimetallic tectons.
International audienceA tetranuclear complex and a 1-D coordination polymer with a ladder-like topology have been obtained by connecting [Ni(II)Dy(III)] nodes with dicarboxylato ligands: [Niâ(valpn)âDyâ(III)(pdca)â(NOâ)(HâO)â](NOâ)*4HâO 1, and (â)Âč[Niâ(HâO)â(valpn)âDyâ(tfa)â]*4CHâCN 2 (valpnÂČâ» = the dianion of the Schiff base resulting from reacting o-vanillin with 1,3-propanediamine; pdcaÂČâ» = the dianion of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid; tfaÂČâ» = the dianion of the terephthalic acid). The magnetic measurements show a ferromagnetic interaction between Ni(II) and Dy(III), and that both compounds behave like SMM with strong tunnelling. The barrier of 2 (17.4 K) is higher than that of 1 (13.6 K)

Learning Analytics Dashboards for Professional Training - Challenges and Proposal
International audienceExploiting the large quantities of traces left by learners in Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) allows educators, learners and administrators to gain new insights into the learning process. Learning Analytics (LA) aims to leverage data collection, measurement, analysis and reporting data which can help users to improve the learning process. This paper presents the first results of the work we are conducting in a professional learning context to design an effective learning analytics dashboard. We show the particularities and explain the different challenges of our context that have led us to propose models to tackle it. We discuss how these models meet the requirements of our domain, and we finally give an example of indicators, measures and visualization built with educators to help them better understand the learnerâs behavior
Tableaux de Bord dâAide au Suivi pour la Formation Professionnelle en Ligne : Etude dâIndicateurs et Lignes Directrices
National audienceIn this paper, we present an experimental study that aims to evaluate the relevance of six indicators selected from those commonly referenced in the literature, in a context of online professional training. The study was conducted on a set of data including 84 e-learning activities followed by 214 learners. We show that the choice of indicators can be impacted by their context of application and its intrinsic constraints, by the type of training, by the pedagogical scenario, as well as by the objectives of the training. Then, we give some guidelines that come out of our study, and that could facilitate the design of a learning analytics dashboard, in terms of indicators, as part of online professional training.

An Unprecedented Family of Lanthanide-Containing Coordination Polymers with Highly Tunable Emission Properties.
International audienceReactions in water between mixtures of rare earth ions (Ln )Y, La-Tm, except Pm) and the sodium salt of terephthalic acid lead to an infinite family of isostructural heteropolynuclear coordination polymers. The monophasic character of the synthesized powders as well as the isostructurality of the heteropolynuclear compounds with the previously described mononuclear [Tb2(C8H4O4)3(H2O)4]â are ascertained on the basis of the X-ray powder diffraction diagrams. One family of heterodinuclear compounds has been studied in detail, that is, [(La2-xYx)(C8H4O4)3(H2O)4]â with 0 e x e 2. This study demonstrates the random character of the spatial distribution of the metallic ions. In order to demonstrate the high modularity of the physical properties, the solid-state luminescent properties of the compounds of general formula [(Eu2-xTbx)(C8H4O4)3(H2O)4]â with 0 e x e 2 have been studied and compared to those of the corresponding mixtures of [(Eu2)(C8H4O4)3(H2O)4]â and [(Tb2)(C8H4O4)3(H2O)4]â. In order to confirm the general character of these studies, the compound containing in equal proportions all 13 rare earth ions between La and Tm (except Pm) plus Y has been synthesized and characterized. At last, the solid-state luminescent properties of compounds belonging to the ternary system [(Ce2-x-yEuxTby)(C8H4O4)3(H2O)4]â with x + y e 2 are briefly described
Single molecule magnet behaviour in robust dysprosium-biradical complexes.
A Dy-biradical complex was synthesized and characterized down to very low temperature. ac magnetic measurements reveal single molecule magnet behaviour visible without any application of dc field. The transition to the quantum tunneling regime is evidenced. Photophysical and EPR measurements provide evidence of the excellent stability of these complexes in solution
