Defect chemistry and transport properties of BaxCe0.85M0.15O3-d
The site-incorporation mechanism of M3+ dopants into A2+B4+O3 perovskites controls the overall defect chemistry and thus their transport properties. For charge-balance reasons, incorporation onto the A2+-site would require the creation of negatively charged point defects (such as cation vacancies), whereas incorporation onto the B4+-site is accompanied by the generation of positively charged defects, typically oxygen vacancies. Oxygen-vacancy content, in turn, is relevant to proton-conducting oxides in which protons are introduced via the dissolution of hydroxyl ions at vacant oxygen sites. We propose here, on the basis of x-ray powder diffraction studies, electron microscopy, chemical analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis, and alternating current impedance spectroscopy, that nominally B-site doped barium cerate can exhibit dopant partitioning as a consequence of barium evaporation at elevated temperatures. Such partitioning and the presence of significant dopant concentrations on the A-site negatively impact proton conductivity. Specific materials examined are BaxCe0.85M0.15O3-d (x = 0.85 - 1.20; M = Nd, Gd, Yb). The compositional limits for the maximum A-site incorporation are experimentally determined to be: (Ba0.919Nd0.081)(Ce0.919Nd0.081)O3, (Ba0.974Gd0.026)(Ce0.872Gd0.128)O2.875, and Ba(Ce0.85Yb0.15)O2.925. As a consequence of the greater ability of larger cations to exist on the Ba site, the H2O adsorption and proton conductivities of large-cation doped barium cerates are lower than those of small-cation doped analogs
The CP properties of the lightest Higgs boson with sbottom effects
In the framework of the recently proposed gluino-axion model, using the
effective potential method and taking into account the top-stop as well as the
bottom-sbottom effects, we discuss the CP--properties of the lightest Higgs
boson, in particular its CP--odd composition, which can offer new opportunities
at collider searches. It is found that although the CP-odd composition of the
lightest Higgs increases slightly with the inclusion of the sbottom effects, it
never exceeds %0.17 for all values of the renormalization scale Q ranging from
top mass to TeV scaleComment: 24 pp, 12 eps fig
Self-interactions of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson in the large pseudoscalar-mass limit
We investigate the decoupling properties of the Higgs-sector-induced one-loop
corrections in the lightest Higgs-boson self-couplings, in the framework of the
Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The renormalized n-point vertex
functions with external Higgs particles in the MSSM and in the SM are derived
to the one-loop level and compared in the MA >> MZ limit. The computation has
been done in a general R_{xi} gauge and the on-shell renormalization scheme is
chosen. By a comparison of the renormalized lightest Higgs-boson h^0 vertex
functions with respect to the corresponding SM ones, we find that the
differences between the predictions of both models are summarized in the
lightest Higgs-boson mass correction Delta Mh. Consequently, the radiative
corrections are absorbed in the Higgs-boson mass, and the trilinear and quartic
h^0 self-couplings acquire the same structure as the couplings of the SM
Higgs-boson. Therefore, decoupling of the heavy MSSM Higgs bosons occurs and
the MSSM h^0 self-interactions converge to the SM ones in the MA >> MZ limit.Comment: LaTeX, 26 pages, 1 figure. Sections 4 and 5 summarized in one

Squark Mixing in Electron-Positron Reactions
Squark mixing plays a large role in the phenomenology of the minimal
supersymmetric standard model, determining the mass of the lightest Higgs boson
and the electroweak interactions of the squarks themselves. We examine how
mixing may be investigated in high energy reactions, both at LEP-II
and the proposed linear collider. In particular, off-diagonal production of one
lighter and one heavier squark allows one to measure the squark mixing angle,
and would allow one to test the mass relations for the light Higgs boson. In
some cases off-diagonal production may provide the best prospects to discover
supersymmetry. In the context of the light bottom squark scenario, we show that
existing data from LEP-II should show definitive evidence for the heavier
bottom squark provided that its mass GeV.Comment: 22 pages, latex, 6 figure
Scale-independent mixing angles
A radiatively-corrected mixing angle has to be independent of the choice of
renormalization scale to be a physical observable. At one-loop in MS-bar, this
only occurs for a particular value, p*, of the external momentum in the
two-point functions used to define the mixing angle: p*^2=(M1^2+M2^2)/2, where
M1, M2 are the physical masses of the two mixed particles. We examine two
important applications of this to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model:
the mixing angle for a) neutral Higgs bosons and b) stops. We find that this
choice of external momentum improves the scale independence (and therefore
provides a more reliable determination) of these mixing angles.Comment: 14 pages, 11 ps figures Version to appear in PR
Particle spectrum in the modified NMSSM in the strong Yukawa coupling limit
A theoretical analysis of solutions of renormalisation group equations in the
MSSM corresponding to the quasi-fixed point conditions shows that the mass of
the lightest Higgs boson in this case does not exceed . It
means that a substantial part of the parameter space of the MSSM is practically
excluded by existing experimental data from LEP II. In the NMSSM the upper
bound on the lightest Higgs boson mass reaches its maximum in the strong Yukawa
coupling regime, when Yukawa constants are considerably larger the gauge ones
on the Grand Unification scale. In this paper a particle spectrum in a simple
modification of NMSSM which leads to a self-consistent solution in the
considered region of the parameter space is studied. This model allows one to
get even for comparatively low values of . For an analysis of the Higgs boson spectrum and neutralino spectrum a
method for diagonalisation of mass matrices proposed formerly is used. The mass
of the lightest Higgs boson in this model does not exceed .Comment: 34 pages, 5 figures included, LaTeX 2
Signatures of Baryogenesis in the MSSM
We revisit the electroweak baryogenesis within the context of the minimal
supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), studying its potential collider
signatures. We find that this mechanism of baryogenesis does not give a new CP
violating signal at the -factories. The first circumstantial evidence may
come from enhanced or mixing. If a light right-handed scalar top
and Higgs are found as required, a linear collider represents the best
possibility for confirming the scenario.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. Minor typos fixed. Reference Adde
The Light Stop Scenario from Gauge Mediation
In this paper we embed the light stop scenario, a MSSM framework which
explains the baryon asymmetry of the universe through a strong first order
electroweak phase transition, in a top-down approach. The required low energy
spectrum consists in the light SM-like Higgs, the right-handed stop, the
gauginos and the Higgsinos while the remaining scalars are heavy. This spectrum
is naturally driven by renormalization group evolution starting from a heavy
scalar spectrum at high energies. The latter is obtained through a
supersymmetry-breaking mix of gauge mediation, which provides the scalars
masses by new gauge interactions, and gravity mediation, which generates
gaugino and Higgsino masses. This supersymmetry breaking also explains the \mu\
and B_\mu\ parameters necessary for electroweak breaking and predicts small
tri-linear mixing terms A_t in agreement with electroweak baryogenesis
requirements. The minimal embedding predicts a Higgs mass around its
experimental lower bound and by a small extension higher masses m_H\lesssim 127
GeV can be accommodated.Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures; v2: changes in the conventions; v3: more details

Measurements of the SUSY Higgs self-couplings and the reconstruction of the Higgs potential
We address the issue of the reconstruction of the scalar potential of a
two-Higgs doublet model having in mind that of the MSSM.
We first consider the general CP conserving dim-4 effective potential. To
fully reconstruct this potential, we show that even if all the Higgs masses and
their couplings to the standard model particles are measured one needs not only
to measure certain trilinear Higgs self-couplings but some of the quartic
couplings as well. We also advocate expressing the Higgs self couplings in the
mass basis. We show explicitly, that in the so-called decoupling limit, the
most easily accessible Higgs self-couplings are given in terms of the Higgs
mass while all other dependencies on the parameters of the general effective
potential are screened. This helps also easily explain how, in the
MSSM, the largest radiative corrections which affect these self couplings are
reabsorbed by using the corrected Higgs mass. We also extend our analysis to
higher order operators in the effective Higgs potential. While the above
screening properties do not hold, we argue that these effects must be small and
may not be measured considering the foreseen poor experimental precision in the
extraction of the SUSY Higgs self-couplings.Comment: 25 pages, 3 figure
Thirty-two Goldbach Variations
We give thirty-two diverse proofs of a small mathematical gem--the
fundamental Euler sum identity zeta(2,1)=zeta(3) =8zeta(\bar 2,1). We also
discuss various generalizations for multiple harmonic (Euler) sums and some of
their many connections, thereby illustrating both the wide variety of
techniques fruitfully used to study such sums and the attraction of their
study.Comment: v1: 34 pages AMSLaTeX. v2: 41 pages AMSLaTeX. New introductory
