ABSTRACT This summary describes the repair and refurbishment process development for a set of compressor blades that suffered from heavy pitting corrosion. The objective was to restore the surface of the corroded blades and regain fatigue strength, while maintaining the proper airfoil profile. Metallurgical evaluation during the development and refurbishment indicated where improvements were needed and later on controlled the progress of the repair. Mechanical tests, such as fatigue and hardness, were performed to ensure that mechanical property criteria were met following the complete refurbishment of the blades. The resulting repair scheme is generic and can be used on most types of gas turbine compressor blades
