ICTS in english for specific purposes: a methodological proposal
This paper shows how digital and/or mobile technologies are applied in a university course at a distance university in Spain, namely UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia). In this work, four educational innovation projects are examined within the realm of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). They are mostly based on (mobile) technology and carried out over several semesters with the students of the course "English for Tourism II", from the Degree in Tourism. The initial objective is to shed light on some innovative technology-based learning projects in the ESP classroom. The final objective is to consider their positive results for future good practices, so that other teaching professionals can also implement them in their classrooms, especially in their distance training courses, by paying special attention to: mobile language learning, collaborative learning, and gamification
AbstractObjectiveTo describe the epidemiological profile of cardiac arrests and to determine factors associated with successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).DesignRetrospective descriptive observational study.SitesBadajoz city (Spain) and population attended by the Medical Emergency Unit of the Public Health System in that city.ParticipantsA study 359 cardiac arrests resuscitated between January 2002 and May 2009.ResultsOut of the cardiac arrests that ocurred in adults, 65.40% were male, the cause was not traumatic in 88%; 65.70% occurred in the patient's home, and in 6% of the cases there had been basic life support. The higher success rate after was achieved in adult male patients (OR: 0,43; CI 95%; 0.25-0.73; P=.002), whose rhythm was shockable (OR: 0,16; CI 95%: 0,09-0,27; P<.001) and when the start time of advanced life support was equal to or less than 10minutes (OR: 0,22; CI 95%: 0,10-0,49; P<.001). In a multivariant analysis success of CPR was independently associated with male gender, initial shockable rhythm, and the onset of advanced life support within 10minutes. Nine children were revived, but success was not achieved in any.ConclusionsCardiac arrests are more common in adults and in few cases CPR is previously performed. Male gender, an initial shockable rhythm, and the early initiation of advanced life support, are associated with higher success of CPR. There were few CPR performed in cardiac arrest in children, and the prognosis was more unfavorable
[EN] The aim of this study was to identify whether ranking position predicts combat result in Senior and Junior male and female Spanish judo athletes, and how it influences the different stages of the championship. The sample was composed of 683 combats from the Senior (male = 164; female = 158 combats) and Junior (male = 193; female = 168 combats) Spain 2014 Judo National Championships, including all weight categories. Data were obtained from the official classification published by the Spanish Judo Federation. Main results revealed important advantages of high-ranked athletes, finding differences between sexes and championship stages. Specifically, high-ranked athletes had more probability of winning and passing to the next stage. This advantage appears to be greater at the initial phases in females but mitigated as the championship progresses. Interestingly, the quarterfinal appears to be a critical phase in which better skilled and prepared athletes are likely to win. Greater differences between better and lower-ranked were found in Junior females, especially at eliminatory and quarterfinals stages. On the contrary, the Junior male contest appears to be the most equitable competition. These results fuel the debate about the seeding process in judo championships.[PT] O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar se a posição no ranking prediz o resultado de combate em atletas de judô espanhóis dos sexos masculino e feminino, das classes Sênior e Júnior, e como ele influencia os diferentes estágios do Campeonato. Synthesis and Characterisation of ASA-PEEK Composites for Fused Filament Fabrication
In this paper, a series of polymer composites made from acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA) and poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK) were manufactured. ASA acts as a polymer matrix while PEEK is loaded in the form of micro-particles that act as a reinforcing filler. The composites were compounded by single screw extrusion and then, different specimens were manufactured either via injection moulding (IM) or fused filament fabrication (FFF). Two different types of PEEK (commercial and reused) in different concentrations (3 and 6 wt.%) were tested and their influence in the mechanical, structural, and thermal properties were studied. It was observed that reused PEEK enhanced the stiffness and tensile strength and thermal stability of the composites both, for injected and printed specimens. This evidences the suitability of these composites as potential candidates as novel materials with enhanced properties following an approach of circular economy
