    High robustness and reliability of fuzzy logic based position estimation for sensorless switched reluctance motor drives

Thus, a major consideration is the reliability of position estimation schemes when sensor less SR motor drive control is employed. Hence, in this paper, the robust of a fuzzy logic based angle estimation algorithm for the switched reluctance motor (SR) motor is described. It is shown using theoretical analysis and experimental results, that by using logic, the angle estimation scheme gains a high level of robustness and reliability. A theoretical and quantitative analysis of the noise and error commonly found in practical motor drives is given, and how this can affect SR motor position estimation. An analysis is also given on the concepts of robustness and reliability. It is shown that the fuzzy logic based scheme is robust to erroneous and noisy signals commonly found in motor drives.Adrian David Cheok and Nesimi Ertugru

    Field-weakening performance of interior permanent-magnet motors

    Copyright © 2002 IEEEThis paper compares the field-weakening performance under rated and overload conditions of synchronous reluctance and interior permanent-magnet motors against that of a baseline 2.2-kW induction machine. Four prototype rotors based on axially laminated and multiple-barrier designs were built and tested in the same induction machine stator. Field-weakening performance was estimated based on 50-Hz load tests at reduced voltage. It was found that the performance of the axially laminated synchronous reluctance machine was comparable with the induction machine while the interior permanent-magnet motors offered significantly better output power above rated speed.     Computer-based automated test measurement system for determining magnetization characteristics of switched reluctance motors

The measuring scheme was developed using a graphical programming environment (LabVIEW), a data acquisition card, and external interface hardware. The graphical programming method allows a high degree of software modularity and provides the features needed for sensor zero adjustment, data acquisition and analysis, and automated presentation of results. Furthermore, the experimental setup described in this paper can be used to obtain the magnetization characteristics of other electromechanical devices.     Inverterless high-power interior permanent-magnet automotive alternator

    This paper describes a high-power brushless interior permanent-magnet (PM) automotive alternator which does not use an inverter. The “inverterless” alternator is designed with a high back electromotive force voltage and high reactance, and acts as a constant current source over much of its wide constant power operating speed range. In this configuration, a switched-mode rectifier can be used to regulate the dc output voltage and current, which avoids the complexity and high cost of an inverter. An analysis of the modeling and performance of interior PM machines in this inverterless topology is described. Experimental results showing an outstanding constant power speed range are presented for a 6-kW concept demonstrator machine tested using a three-phase resistive load to simulate inverterless operation.Wen L. It is based on fuzzy-logic, and does not require complex mathematical models or large look up tables. The scheme was implemented by using a digital signal processor.     A novel, robust DSP-based indirect rotor position estimation for permanent magnet AC motors without rotor saliency

    Copyright © 2003 IEEEThis paper proposes and implements a novel rotor position sensorless technique for PM AC motor drives, which allows acceleration from standstill and can operate under various practical operating conditions including transient speed changes. The technique developed here relies on the measurement of the phase voltages and currents of the motor. It uses the incremental values of flux linkage, and the back-EMF functions to estimate incremental rotor position. Using a phase-locked loop (PLL) algorithm, an internal closed-loop correction algorithm can correct rotor position estimation drift, which may be due to the motor parameter variations or measurement inaccuracies. The method is implemented in closed-loop using a digital signal processor (DSP), and details of the implementation are provided in the paper.     An Online Non-Invasive Condition Monitoring Method for Stepping Motor CRDM in HTGR

    Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM) based on stepping motor is one of the components applied in High Temperature Gas Coold Reactor (HTGR) to control the reactivity as well as to maintain the safety of reactor. The stepping motor requires a unique condition monitoring to avoid any failures especially due to the specific environments of CRDM in HTGR such as the allowable of high temperature, high radiation and the location of stepper motor inside a pressure shell. This research aims to demonstrate an online non-invasive condition monitoring method without direct access to the CRDM of HTGR based on voltage and stator current measurements. A simple stepping motor CRDM simulator is employed. The online condition monitoring is carried out by direct pattern matching of the output signals of logic generator block and the output signals of motor driver. The online method utilizes signature patterns of voltage and stator current signals of the healthy motor as a baseline for healthy motor. In addition, the method is applied to detect high-resistance problem on the connector between the motor driver block and the stepper motor to show the effectiveness and the applicability of this method. The online condition monitoring system demonstrates a capability to identify a minimum detectable simulated high-resistance for about 2.9% which decreases the measured stator current and motor’s torque for around 5.1% and 3.3%, respectively. The paper also points out signatures of healthy motor, including mutual inductions of the motor’s winding in voltage and current measurement which can be used as the fault symptom indicators for online monitoring purposes.Received: 19 November 2014; Revised: 13 April 2016; Accepted: 22 June 201
