Esscher transform and the duality principle for multidimensional semimartingales
The duality principle in option pricing aims at simplifying valuation
problems that depend on several variables by associating them to the
corresponding dual option pricing problem. Here, we analyze the duality
principle for options that depend on several assets. The asset price processes
are driven by general semimartingales, and the dual measures are constructed
via an Esscher transformation. As an application, we can relate swap and quanto
options to standard call and put options. Explicit calculations for jump models
are also provided.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/09-AAP600 the Annals of

The complexity of the word problems for commutative semigroups and polynomial ideals
AbstractAny decision procedure for the word problems for commutative semigroups and polynomial deals inherently requires computational storage space growing exponentially with the size of the problem instance to which the procedure is applied. This bound is achieved by a simple procedure for the semigroup problem
Regimes of atomic diffraction: Raman versus Bragg diffraction in retroreflective geometries
We provide a comprehensive study of atomic Raman and Bragg diffraction when
coupling to a pair of counterpropagating light gratings (double diffraction) or
to a single one (single diffraction) and discuss the transition from one case
to the other in a retroreflective geometry as the Doppler detuning changes. In
contrast to single diffraction, double Raman loses its advantage of high
diffraction efficiency for short pulses and has to be performed in a Bragg-type
regime. Moreover, the structure of double diffraction leads to further
limitations for broad momentum distributions on the efficiency of mirror
pulses, making the use of (ultra) cold ensembles essential for high diffraction
efficiency.Comment: 16 pages, 14 figure
Overcoming the Challenges of Retaining Novice Teachers in a County Public School by Ernst Albert
Retaining novice teachers in a Northeast Florida county public school is an ongoing challenge. Research indicates that 14% of new teachers will leave the field within 5 years. The purpose of this case study was to investigate the major factors that contributed to this unique group of novice teachers\u27 decisions to continue to teach at the school during their first 5 years in the field. The societal model served as the conceptual framework for this study of factors affecting teacher turnover, with emphasis on teacher and school characteristics in relation to teacher attrition. Data collected from 9 interviews and an observation and analyzed inductively were used to answer the key research question about what factors contributed to new teachers\u27 retention. The findings of this study indicated that teacher preparation, administrative support, school environment, working conditions, and student characteristics influenced teacher retention at the local site. Recommendations that stemmed from the findings were formulated into a proposal for a new teacher professional development series that the participating school can use to improve new teacher retention rates. This study promotes positive social change by implementing measures to stabilize new teacher retention rates, which will improve student learning and promote academic success by creating stability in the learning environment
(Textauszug
