The comparison in this article between companies in Japan and Sweden shows that although there are obvious historical and cultures differences between the countries different routes towards becoming modern democratic welfare states, differences in the industrialization and in modernization; differences in how sport were introduced and how it was shaped, there are similarities in how companies used sport in company strategies.

In this article I discuss and compare how the concept of paternalism in the Nordic contries and Japan emerge, developed and changed, in theory and practice, from the late 19th century to the 1960s.The comparison showes important cultures and historical differences in how the patriarchal system was shaped in practice as well as in rhetoric but similarities in the endeavour for hegemony.

Mutually Unbiased Bases and The Complementarity Polytope
A complete set of N+1 mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) forms a convex polytope
in the N^2-1 dimensional space of NxN Hermitian matrices of unit trace. As a
geometrical object such a polytope exists for all values of N, while it is
unknown whether it can be made to lie within the body of density matrices
unless N=p^k, where p is prime. We investigate the polytope in order to see if
some values of N are geometrically singled out. One such feature is found: It
is possible to select N^2 facets in such a way that their centers form a
regular simplex if and only if there exists an affine plane of order N. Affine
planes of order N are known to exist if N=p^k; perhaps they do not exist
otherwise. However, the link to the existence of MUBs--if any--remains to be

Comment on `Detecting non-Abelian geometric phases with three-level systems'
In their recent paper, Yan-Xiong Du et al. [Phys. Rev. A 84, 034103 (2011)]
claim to have found a non-Abelian adiabatic geometric phase associated with the
energy eigenstates of a large-detuned three-level system. They
further propose a test to detect the non-commutative feature of this geometric
phase. On the contrary, we show that the non-Abelian geometric phase picked up
by the energy eigenstates of a system is trivial in the adiabatic
approximation, while, in the exact treatment of the time evolution, this phase
is very small and cannot be separated from the non-Abelian dynamical phase
