On Monopolistic Competition and Optimal Product Diversity: a Comment on Cost Structure and Workers' Rents
In the Dixit-Stiglitz model of monopolistic competition, entry of firms is socially too small. Other authors have shown that excess entry is also a possibility with other preferences for diversity. We show that the cost structure and workers's rents can also explain excess entry.monopolistic competition; product diversity
The Impact of Labor Markets on Emergence and Persistence of Regional Asymmetries
This paper investigates the impact of labor markets and economies of agglomeration on firms
location. We show that the existence of a lower bound on wage (e.g. a minimum wage or a
reservation wage) introduces asymmetric location of firms. Moreover, changes in that lower
bound or in global product demand may induce irreversible changes in location equilibria.
Asymmetries in firms location may thus emerge and persist
Taxation and Labor Markets
We exploit the common features of models such as union-firm wage bargaining, search and efficiency wage models to develop a framework that can be used for analyzing the effects of any budget-neutral tax reform on employment in these models. We show that taxes paid by workers are not equivalent to taxes paid by firms when taxes are non linear. Moreover, increasing progressivity is good for employment in these models.
Practical Application of Matchmaking Problem : Trainee Allocation for Teachers
In this paper, we tackle a complex real-world problem: trainee allocation for primary school teachers in a French teaching Academy. In this real-world problem, the most difficult part consists of generating the preference lists according to the constraints, priorities and wishes in order to reduce this problem into the well-known Hospitals / Residents (HR) problem. Additionally, when we apply the existing algorithm for solving this problem we favorite one community or another. In this paper, we adapt the Swing method to the HR problem and we apply it to this real-world problem in order to balance the different objectives. In this way, the Swing method decreases the management cost of the operation
Ternary Rhenium(I) Complexes: from Fluorescent Reporters to Interesting Scaffolds for Dual-Imaging Heterobimetallic Probes
Five ternary tricarbonylrhenium(I) complexes based on a pyridinetriazole moiety, so called pyta, were synthesized and spectroscopically characterized. The photophysical properties of these cationic complexes of general formula, [Re(CO)3(pyta-COOMe)L] (L = substituted pyridine derivatives) have been investigated, as well. Three of them are fluorescent and could be considered as interesting scaffolds for the preparation of dual-imaging heterobimetallic species
Un modèle de croissance pour l’azobé, Lophira alata, au Gabon
Azobé, Lophira alata, is a major timber species in Central Africa classified as vulnerable into the IUCN red list. To date, despite numerous measures of increment, no growth model has been published for this species. This study aims to distinguish the effects between tree size and local competition on tree growth. A growth model was fitted for azobé, using data from four sites in Gabon. The growth model was designed to be useful for forest management that means it relied on variables that could be computed using forest inventory data. A lognormal growth model with a negative response to stand density and basal area has been selected. The relation between growth and size was unimodal with a maximum at 60 cm of diameter at breast height. A significant residual social status effect on growth has been found (with a slower growth for suppressed trees) while no residual site effect was found
