Une anthropologie du handicap moteur au Burkina Faso : la « Handicourse solidaire »

Cet article est basé sur une enquête ethnographique de terrain, portant sur un événement de sensibilisation au handicap qui s’est déroulé au Burkina Faso en décembre 2008. L’étude de l’organisation et du déroulement de la Handicourse solidaire est révélatrice de tensions existantes entre les différentes associations locales regroupant des personnes présentant un handicap moteur. La construction d’une identité pour soi acceptable, pour ces individus discrédités dans la société burkinabée, passe par l’acceptation du regroupement entre pairs. La Handicourse solidaire, comme lieu de contacts mixtes prolongés, a alors offert aux participants un espace de déstigmatisation interne, mais également la possibilité d’une ouverture au monde des valides. C’est davantage entre les participants à l’événement qu’une transformation des représentations s’est opérée, alors qu’à l’origine la sensibilisation était avant tout orientée vers les habitants des villages-étapes.This article is based on ethnographic field research about an event aimed at sensitizing people to disability that took place in Burkina Faso in December 2008. The study of the organization and the development of the solidarity Handirace reveals the tensions existing between the different local associations bringing together physically disabled people. Building an acceptable identity for oneself, for this persons rejected in Burkina Faso society requires an acceptance of gathering together with peers. The solidarity Handirace, as a site of prolonged mixed contacts, thus offered participants a space of de-stigmatization inside the peer-group but also the possibility of access to the world of able-bodied people.
