Zum Stellenwert von Dialekt und Standard im österreichischen und Schweizer Alltag – Ergebnisse einer Umfrage
Sociolinguistic variation in Austria and the German-speaking part of Switzerland has traditionally been described in very different terms. In Austria, the linguistic range between the standard language and the local dialects has been referred to as a ‘standard-dialect-continuum’, whereas the German-speaking part of Switzerland has often been cited as the typical example of a ‘diglossic’ language community. The sociolinguistic situation in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, which is part of a primarily Bavarian-speaking but also of the Alemannic dialect region, has not been thoroughly examined in any studies up to date. In this paper, we present results from an online-survey in Austria and Switzerland on the everyday use of dialect and the standard language. According to our informants’ estimates, the sociolinguistic situation in both Austria and German-speaking Switzerland is characterised by a significant percentage of dialect use. Still, the standard language is regarded quite differently in the two countries. A considerable proportion of the Swiss informants perceive the standard language as a ‘foreign language’. However, this does not seem to be a common attitude among the Austrian informants. The main difference between the two countries lies in the observation that Austrians feel they use an intermediate form between dialect and the standard language, a so-called ‘Umgangssprache’, in many situations, whereas the Swiss indicate that they speak their local dialect or the standard language under specific communicative circumstances. However, the German-speaking Swiss population, as well as the informants from Vorarlberg, do not seem to use an intermediate form. The situation in Vorarlberg is particularly interesting. On the one hand, as far as the status of dialect and the dichotomy of dialect and standard are concerned, Vorarlberg patterns similar to the German-speaking part of Switzerland. On the other hand, people from Vorarlberg have to adapt to their Bavarian-speaking fellow countrymen and -women and switch to standard German in intra-national communication (e.g. at the workplace or on national help lines)
Dialekt-Standard-Variation im ungesteuerten Zweitspracherwerb des Deutschen
The coexistence of dialect and standard in the German-speaking part of Switzerland offers very interesting framework conditions for investigating the acquisition of linguistic variation in a second language context in more detail. Against this background, the present study focuses on the social significance of languages and varieties and their influence on the construction of the linguistic repertoire in adult learners with different first languages and with variable personal and social framework conditions of language acquisition. It investigates how second language users deal with the existing dialect-standard variation in input, to what extent they integrate the two codes into their second language knowledge and what attitudes towards dialect and standard they develop from the specific acquisition situation. Overall, the work provides information on German acquisition in the study area of Switzerland, but is more generally related to questions on the socio-indexicality of language and language variation in the context of second language acquisition
Sociolinguistic competence and varietal repertoires in a second language: A study on addressee‐dependent varietal behavior using virtual reality
The present study takes a variationist perspective to explore the varietal repertoires of adult learners of German as a second language (L2), that is, their variable use of standard German, Austro‐Bavarian dialect, and mixture varieties. Forty L2 learners completed a virtual reality task involving interactions with dialect‐speaking and standard‐German‐speaking interlocutors. Using Bayesian multilevel modeling, the goal was to explore differential outcomes in the acquisition of sociolinguistic competence by determining whether participants adjusted their varietal behavior to match that of the interlocutor (i.e., varietal convergence). The results show that there were no interindividual addressee‐dependent convergence tendencies. A holistic person‐centered analysis of individual learners’ intraspeaker variation revealed that only select L2 learners adjusted their usage patterns but did not entirely invert their usage of dialect and standard language as a function of the variety of the interlocutor. Introspective qualitative data speak to potential drivers behind the differential development of L2 (multi)varietal repertoires

A partir
The essential purpose of Colombian criminal law is the protection of legal assets, this concept
being understood to include all the values recognized by the legislator as significant or relevant in
the individuals and society daily lives, in other words, the purpose of criminal law is the
protection of individuals within society and the collective environment that surrounds them, For
this purpose, the Colombian State created legal norms that create criminal types that protect legal
assets and uses the penalty as a resource when one of these legally protected assets has been
violated or infringed, that is to say, the penalty plays a primordial and fundamental role within
the scaffolding of the Colombian penal system. Based on the analysis of the function of
punishment within the Colombian penal system, we find that the function of punishment in
Colombia has two effects: the general prevention effect, which is directed at the entire social
conglomerate, and a special prevention effect, which is directed at the offender, seeking from the
positive point of view to re-socialize him and thus prevent him from committing new crimes.
In view of this consideration and in the understanding that the Colombian state has the normative
obligation to guarantee the re-socialization of offenders, the need arises to carry out an analysis
of the re-socialization mechanisms being developed within the Colombian prison and jail system
and to determine how effective they are being
