The renormalized jellium model for spherical and cylindrical colloids
Starting from a mean-field description for a dispersion of highly charged
spherical or (parallel) rod-like colloids, we introduce the simplification of a
homogeneous background to include the contribution of other polyions to the
static field created by a tagged polyion. The charge of this background is
self-consistently renormalized to coincide with the polyion effective charge,
the latter quantity thereby exhibiting a non-trivial density dependence, which
directly enters into the equation of state through a simple analytical
expression. The good agreement observed between the pressure calculated using
the renormalized jellium and Monte Carlo simulations confirms the relevance of
the {renormalized} jellium model for theoretical and experimental purposes and
provides an alternative to the Poisson-Boltzmann cell model since it is free of
some of the intrinsic limitations of this approach
Operator Analysis for Proton Decay in SUSY SO(10) GUT Models
Non-renormalizable operators both account for the failure of down quark and
charged lepton Yukawa couplings to unify and reduce the proton decay rate via
dimension-five operators in minimal SUSY SU(5) GUT. We extend the analysis to
SUSY SO(10) GUT models.Comment: Higgs sector clarified, two Refs adde
On the residual and profinite closures of commensurated subgroups
The residual closure of a subgroup of a group is the intersection of
all virtually normal subgroups of containing . We show that if is
generated by finitely many cosets of and if is commensurated, then the
residual closure of in is virtually normal. This implies that separable
commensurated subgroups of finitely generated groups are virtually normal. A
stream of applications to separable subgroups, polycyclic groups, residually
finite groups, groups acting on trees, lattices in products of trees and
just-infinite groups then flows from this main result.Comment: 22 page
Magic composite pulses
I describe composite pulses during which the average dipolar interactions
within a spin ensemble are controlled while realizing a global rotation. The
construction method used is based on the average Hamiltonian theory and rely on
the geometrical properties of the spin-spin dipolar interaction only. I present
several such composite pulses robust against standard experimental defects in
NRM: static or radio-frequency field miscalibration, fields inhomogeneities.
Numerical simulations show that the magic sandwich pulse sequence, a pulse
sequence that reverse the average dipolar field while applied, is plagued by
defects originating from its short initial and final \pi/2 radio-frequency
pulses. Using the magic composite pulses instead of \pi/2 pulses improves the
magic sandwich effect. A numerical test using a classical description of NMR
allows to check the validity of the magic composite pulses and estimate their
efficiency.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figure
Extra Higgs Boson and as Portals to Signatures of Heavy Neutrinos at the LHC
In this paper, we discuss the potential of observing heavy neutrino ()
signatures of a enlarged Standard Model (SM) encompassing three
heavy Majorana neutrinos alongside the known light neutrino states at the Large
Hadron Collider (LHC). We exploit the theoretical decay via a pair of heavy
(non-SM-like) Higgs boson and production followed by and decays, ultimately
yielding a signature and, depending upon how boosted
the final state objects are, we define different possible selections aimed at
improving the signal to background ratio in LHC Run 2 data for a wide range of
heavy neutrino masses.Comment: 31 pages, 10 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

A Comparative Study of the Concept of Atonement in the Aboakyer Festival of the Effutu Tribe in Ghana and the Yom Kippur Festival of the Old Testament: Implications for Adventist Mission Among the Effutu
Statement of Problem
History records that Christian missions have operated in Winneba since 1865 with various approaches being used to share the gospel with the Effutu. Though there have been successes, allegiance of the Effutu to their tribal gods, manifested especially during the Aboakyer festival, raises the need for a missiological bridge or intervention for an effective contextualized ministry among the Effutu of Winneba.
Purpose of Study
This research aims to develop a missiological model based on a comparative study of the OT Yom Kippur festival and the Effutu Aboakyer festival that will potentially facilitate more effective Adventist mission among the Effutu.
Method
To understand the concept of atonement, a literature review studied the concept of atonement in two parts—the biblical view (comprising the Old Testament and New Testament views), and the African Traditional Religion (ATR) perspective. Second an ethnographic research on the Effutu Aboakyer was done to understand its context, particularly, the origins, history, and the rituals of the Aboakyer festival. This involved individual and group interviews as well as participant observation. Using the comparative approach method, comparison and contrast between the Aboakyer and Yom Kippur, with its typological meaning (pointing to ultimate reality), was done to find (a) similarities between them that reveal points of contact and that will make Yom Kippur comprehensible to the Effutu; and also (b) differences that reveal inadequacies in their understanding of atonement that can be remedied by accepting the biblical model of atonement through two phases of atonement provided by Christ\u27s sacrifice. A missiological model that comprehensively and effectively addresses the Effutu situation was accordingly proposed.
Conclusion
Based upon the redemptive analogies (similarities) found in the analysis, and the differences that posed as challenges, the Yom Kippur, expressing the biblical model of atonement, was proposed as the appropriate modus operandi that will potentially facilitate a more effective incarnational mission among the Effutu. This model, which elucidates the two phases of atonement provided by Christ’s sacrifice, was found to have the remedy for the inadequacies (differences) of the Effutu in their understanding of atonement and also the theological insights to give the sanctuary message its eschatological emphasis needed for this time. The model will also put the Effutu history and cosmology into biblical perspective and help the Effutu direct their sacrifices and worship to God rather than the lesser gods
Quantum well infrared photodetectors hardiness to the non ideality of the energy band profile
We report results on the effect of a non-sharp and disordered potential in
Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors (QWIP). Scanning electronic transmission
microscopy is used to measure the alloy profile of the structure which is shown
to present a gradient of composition along the growth axis. Those measurements
are used as inputs to quantify the effect on the detector performance (peak
wavelength, spectral broadening and dark current). The influence of the random
positioning of the doping is also studied. Finally we demonstrate that QWIP
properties are quite robust with regard to the non ideality of the energy band
profile
