Rockfall runout, Mount Cimone area, Emilia-Romagna Region, Italy
Numerous mass movements of different typology characterize both mountainous and piedmont
sectors of the Emilia-Romagna Region (Apennine chain, North Italy). Although a less spatially
frequent landslide typology within the region, rock falls represent severe threats to buildings,
roads and persons due to their high propagation velocity. This paper presents an extract of the
Emilia-Romagna regional map of the rock fall runout areas at a scale of 1:25,000. The analysis
of rock fall runout areas was based upon a three-dimensional morphological method (TDM).
The zone presented in the Main Map encompasses the area surrounding Mount Cimone, in
the Emilia-Romagna Region. The proposed regional map of rockfall runout is noteworthy
for planning actions and strategies aimed at the prevention and reduction of landslide risk at
a regional scale

The General Profile of the Outsourcing Firm Evidence for a Local Production System of Emilia Romagna
The paper aims at ‘embedding’ the outsourcing firm by considering it as a four-fold unit of analysis: i.e. as an organizational, production, industrial and innovation unit. Theoretical correlations between outsourcing decisions and outsourcing variables are formulated and then tested with respect to a representative cross-sectional sample of firms of a local production system in Emilia Romagna (that is, Reggio Emilia). The main result of the paper is that outsourcing decisions are indeed affected by the organizational and industrial relations typical of the context firms are embedded in. Furthermore, the general profile of the Reggio Emilia outsourcing firm is strategic rather than operative. In particular, tapping-into the provider’s resources and competences to eventually promote technological innovation seems more relevant than searching for lower costs by contracting out.Outsourcing; transaction costs; industrial relations; innovation
A Comparative Analysis of the Meat Sector in Hungary and Emilia-Romagna: Performance and Efficiency
In the last years, a lot of important changes occurred inside the European Union after the entering of 12 new member States. The rate of economic growth of the new member States has been higher the other EU members. In Hungary, particularly, the growth level has reached an intermediate position, placing itself at 4% GDP per capita. Comparative analysis are needed to better understand the process of catching-up and to evaluate how the integration between EU regions and countries is going on. The aim of this paper is to compare the economic and efficiency performance of firms in Hungary and Emilia-Romagna, considering a specific sector, meat processing and storage, of the food industry). We will investigate if in the last years the integration process has ultimately led to narrow the gap in the economic performances and efficiency of the firms. The choice of meat processing industry is due to the fact that in Hungary theres a remarkable animal production, whereas in the Emilia-Romagna region the meat industry reflects an organizational structure based on the concentration and specialization in agri-food districts. This paper compares the financial-economic performances and the technical efficiency of firms involved in the industry of meat processing in Hungary and in an Italian region, Emilia-Romagna. We will also discuss and compare the different results obtained throughout governance and structure of meat industry. Effects of Starch and Fat Concentrations in Starter Grain on Jersey Calf Performance
We investigated the nutritional needs of Jersey calves, focusing on meeting energy requirements by altering starch and fat concentrations in calf starters. Thirty-six female Jersey calves were grouped by BW and birth date and randomly assigned among 3 calf starters: 35% starch and 2% fat (HST), 20% starch and 2% fat (LST), and 35% starch and 4% fat (HST-F). The fat supplement for HST-F consisted of 20% coconut oil, 45% lard, 15% flaxseed oil, and 20% soybean oil. Calves were fed 4 L of colostrum at birth. All calves were fed the same milk replacer at 4.4 L/d during week one, 5.2 L/d during wk 2 to 7, and 2.6 L/d during wk 8 prior to weaning. Intake was measured daily and wither heights (WH) and BW were measured weekly. One week after weaning, fecal and feed samples were collected daily for 3 d. Using acid insoluble ash, apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and crude protein (CP) were determined. Neither starter (0.54, 0.52, and 0.56 kg/d, respectively for LST, HST, and HST-F) nor total DM intakes (1.05, 0.99, and 1.08 kg/d, respectively) differed among treatments. Average daily gains from birth through wk 10 were similar among groups (0.534, 0.586, and 0.550 kg/d, respectively), thus BW and WH were similar across weeks. Digestibilities of DM (66.0, 73.4, and 70.2%, respectively), NDF (50.2, 41.6, and 41.4%, respectively), and CP (65.1, 67.6, and 62.6%, respectively) were similar among treatments. Fecal scoring was evaluated on a 1-6 scale. For the first 4 weeks, there were no differences among treatments for average fecal scores and days with fecal scores of 1 to 4.
