Three students who were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and continued their full-time inclusive education participated in the study. The purpose of this study was to determine whether using video-enhanced activity schedules is effective in teaching science experiments (mixture-separation experiments) to seventh-grade students with ASD who benefit from inclusive practices. A multiple-probe design across the participants, one of the single-subject research methods, was used in the study. While the dependent variable of the study was science experiments on the separation of mixtures, the independent variable was the use of video-enhanced activity schedules. In the teaching of some science experiments about the separation of mixtures through the method of video-enhanced activity schedules, baseline, instructional, maintenance, and generalization sessions were organized. The skill steps required for the teaching of the experiments were recorded with a camera, and then these videos were used in teaching sessions as materials. The findings of the study suggested that using video-enhanced activity schedules was effective in the teaching of science experiments about the separation of mixtures to seventh-grade students with ASD who were benefiting from inclusive practices. It was observed that the students retained the information on mixture separation experiments they had learned even after the teaching ended. It was also revealed that the seventh-grade students with ASD benefiting from inclusive practices could generalize the information they had learned from the science experiments to different media and practitioners.

T he development of robust, stable and abundant materials that are operating under neutral conditions are of great importance for the electrocatalytic conversion of water to hydrogen using sunlight. Here, a robust and highly stable, silver oxide based electrocatalyst composite system for the efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction OER was presented. The developed Ag/AgO composite catalyst with a small 10-15 nm and homogenous particle size distribution was fabricated using microwave synthesis. In the neutral media, the Ag/AgO electrocatalyst achieved 1 mA cm−2 current density at 600 mV overpotential, and exhibited a lower Tafel slope of 80 mV dec-1 compared to MnOx-based catalysts in the range of 450–600 mV. These values are comparable to those of the promising catalysts such as Mn, Co, Ni oxide based systems in the neutral media. The results showed that the developed electrocatalyst system based on Ag/AgO composite could be used in multi-layer electrocatalyst system design

In Turkey, depending on the country's economic status and technological sophistication, science policy efforts were begun, science policy decisions were taken with 1960s and the issue was reflected to the official documents. However, an integrated program couldn’t have put into action for a long time to gather this fringe image showing science policy works. "Turkish Science Policy 1983- 2003”document of 1983 was an important step on the road to reach this purpose. But this document was not applied. In this article, aiming to reveal the reasons of this with history bases, the period from 1945 to 1983 is focused on. The subject is concluded by introducing "Turkish Science Policy 1983-2003”briefly and the results are obtained. The topic is enriched by comparing Turkey with some countries and Turkey's success was measured in this area

Abstract: Duckweed (Lemna minor L.) has a wide application in Turkey having suitable climatic conditions. In this study, the growth of duckweed was assessed in laboratory scale experiments. They were fed with municipal and industrial wastewater at constant temprature. COD, total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and ortho-phosphate (OP) removal efficiencies of the reactors were monitored by sampling influent and effluent of the system. Removal efficiency in this study reflects optimal results: 73-84% COD removal, 83-87% TN removal, 70-85% TP removal and 83-95% OP removal. The results show that the duckweed-based wastewater treatment is capable of treating the laboratory wastewater

The accumulation of heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Zn, Cd, Pb, Cr, B, As) was measured in water, plankton and sediment samples taken from different areas of Lake Uluabat during January 2003 to February 2004.The sequential extraction used in this study is useful to assess the potential mobility of heavy metals in the sediment indirectly. In this study, Cu, Pb, Cr, Cd, Ni and Zn concentrations were detected at higherlevels at Lake Uluabat for selected stations, especially in plankton samples. The magnitude of heavy metal concentrations in water and plankton samples was determined as B>Zn>As>Cd>Pb>Ni>Cr andZn>Ni>Cu>Cr>Cd>Pb, respectively. The mobile heavy metals in sediment samples were sequences as Pb>Cu>Cr>Ni>Cd>Zn, whereas the magnitude of easily mobilizable metal concentration was determinedas Pb>Ni>Cr>Cu>Cd>Zn. Concentration of Cu and Cr in mobile fraction is detected higher than in easily mobilizable fraction. Concentration of Pb, Cd, Zn and Ni in mobile fraction is detected in lower levels than in easily mobilizable fraction

WOS: 000376354600001The effects on soil and cotton quality of organic wastes from medicinal and aromatic plant factories were investigated with regard to the risks of boron and heavy metal pollution. Oily cumin, oregano, oilless oregano wastes, and mineral fertilizers were applied to cotton in two field experiments performed in the years 2003 and 2006. The Pb content of the soil differed significantly in the 2003 experiment and oregano wastes had significantly decreasing effect. Boron of soil to which oily cumin wastes had been applied reached a toxic limit value in 2006. Boron in soil adversely affected long fibres; B in leaves had a positive effect on the fineness of fibres in 2006. Soil Ni adversely affected plant height in 2006 and seed cotton yield in 2003. Leaf Ni had an adverse effect on fibre elasticity in 2006. Soil Co increased ginning out-turn and Cr decreased the fibre fineness of cotton in 2003

Antimicrobial films were produced by incorporating partially purified lysozyme into films of crude exopolysaccharides (59 % pullulan) obtained from Aureobasidium pullulans fermentation. After film making, the films containing lysozyme at 100, 260, 520 and 780 μg/cm2 showed 23 to 70 % of their expected enzyme activities. The highest recovery of enzyme activity (65–70 %) after the film making was obtained in films prepared by incorporating lysozyme at 260 μg/cm2 (1409 U/cm2). The incorporation of disodium EDTA×2H2O and sucrose did not affect the initial lysozyme activity of the films significantly. With or without the presence of disodium EDTA×2H2O at 52 or 520 μg/cm2, lysozyme activity showed sufficient stability in the films during 21 days of cold storage. However, the presence of sucrose at 10 mg/cm2 in the films caused the destabilization of part of enzyme activity (almost 35 %) at the end of storage. The combinational incorporation of lysozyme at 780 μg/cm2 (4227 U/cm2) and disodium EDTA×2H2O at 520 μg/cm2 gave antimicrobial films effective on Escherichia coli. However, in the studied lysozyme concentration range the films did not show any antimicrobial activity against Lactobacillus plantarum. This study clearly showed that the partially purified lysozyme and crude exopolysaccharides from Aureobasidium pullulans may be used to obtain antimicrobial films to increase the safety of foods

Objective and importanceWe present the first case of a precursor acute subdural B-lymphoblastic lymphoma mimicking an acute subdural hematoma.Clinical presentationA 19 year old male presented with an acute onset of headache, nausea and vomiting. CT scan showed crescentic right-sided, frontoparietal subdural mass isointense with cortex and showing homogeneous enhancement after gadolinium.InterventionThe patient underwent a craniotomy and a gray subdural tumor with invasion of both dura and brain was observed. The invaded dura was resected and duraplasty performed. Histopathologically, the tumor was composed of small round cells infiltrating soft tissue. In some areas of the tumor, cells were arranged in a linear, “Indian file” fashion between collagen bundles. Their nuclei were generally uniform, round to ovoid in shape, small to medium in size, and featured delicate chromatin. Accompanying cytoplasm was scant. Necrosis was absent. On immunohistochemical analysis, the tumor cells were positive for CD79a, TdT, CD10 and CD34.ConclusionSubdural lymphoma can present as a neurosurgical emergency, and lymphoma should be considered as a rare but possible diagnosis before operation
