Support Vector Machine Implementation on MPI-CUDA and Tensorflow Framework

Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm requires a high computational cost (both in memory and time) to solve a complex quadratic programming (QP) optimization problem during the training process. Consequently, SVM necessitates high computing hardware capabilities. The central processing unit (CPU) clock frequency cannot be increased due to physical limitations in the miniaturization process. However, the potential of parallel multi-architecture, available in both multi-core CPUs and highly scalable GPUs, emerges as a promising solution to enhance algorithm performance. Therefore, there is an opportunity to reduce the high computational time required by SVM for solving the QP optimization problem. This paper presents a comparative study that implements the SVM algorithm on different parallel architecture frameworks. The experimental results show that SVM MPI-CUDA implementation achieves a speedup over SVM TensorFlow implementation on different datasets. Moreover, SVM TensorFlow implementation provides a cross-platform solution that can be migrated to alternative hardware components, which will reduces the development time.Comment: 5 page

    Get PDF
Abstract Internet of things (IoT) and device to device (D2D) communications are among the novel promising technologies in the current releases of 4G and they will play a fundamental role in the next generation 5G as well. In this paper, it is investigated the impact of allocation strategies that take into account the mutual interference in D2D Narrow-Band IoT terminals and cellular terminals transmitting in the same resource block. In a multi-cellular downlink context, the proposed approach and the analysis can serve also as an efficient criterion for selecting the target SINR, useful for managing the power control in the uplink. The rate improvement, measured with the proposed approach, is between 10% and 15% w.r.t. conventional techniques

    A new generalized Lindley distribution

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present a new class of distributions called New Generalized Lindley Distribution(NGLD). This class of distributions contains several distributions such as gamma, exponential and Lindley as special cases. The hazard function, reverse hazard function, moments and moment generating function and inequality measures are are obtained. Moreover, we discuss the maximum likelihood estimation of this distribution. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of two real data sets. We hope that the new distribution proposed here will serve as an alternative model to other models available in the literature for modelling positive real data in many areas. Exponentiated Weibull-Exponential Distribution with Applications

    Get PDF
In this article, a new four-parameter continuous model, called the exponentiated Weibull exponential distribution, is introduced based on exponentiated Weibull-G family (Hassan and Elgarhy, 2016). The new model contains some new distributions as well as some former distributions. Various mathematical properties of this distribution are studied. General explicit expressions for the quantile function, expansion of distribution and density functions, moments, generating function, Rényi and q – entropies, and order statistics are obtained. The estimation of the model parameters is discussed using maximum likelihood method. The practical importance of the new distribution is demonstrated through real data set where we compare it with several lifetime distributions

Intracanal medicaments have been thought as an important step in killing the bacteria in root canals. The application of nanoparticles in the medication applied between visits was supposed to improve its antibacterial effect. With the introduction of nanotechnology in dentistry, intracanal medicaments could become more effective against bacteria. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of silver nanoparticles incorporated with Calcium hydroxide and Nano Chitosan intracanal medicaments against Enterococcus faecalis biofilms formed on root dentin. Materials and methods: 40 extracted human single rooted permanent teeth were selected; samples were randomly divided into three equal experimental groups eight samples each according to the intracanal medicament used. Group 1 (n=8) Calcium hydroxide with nano silver intracanal medicament was used, group 2 (n=8) Nano chitosan intracanal medicament was used, group 3 (n=8) Nano conventional Calcium hydroxide intracanal medicament was used and two control groups eight samples each (n=8). After inoculation with Enterococcus Faecalis, teeth were injected different intracanal medicaments for 7 days then evaluation of dead and live bacteria percentage was done using Confocal LASER Microscope. Results: Reduction of Enterococcus faecalis mean percentages were significantly higher in groups 1 and 2 than group 3 regardless the root level and different root regions except the coronal region. Conclusion: Nano silver and nano Chitosan provide promising antibacterial effect which was proved by Confocal LASER Microscop

The separation of the enantiomers of asparagine by crystallization /

    Get PDF
Enantiomers are chiral molecules (i.e. they are mirror-images of each other). They have identical physical properties except for the rotation of polarized light. However their chemical properties are different when reacting with other chiral molecules. The majority of biological processes involve the reaction of two or more chiral molecules. There is therefore a strong interest coming from the pharmaceutical, food and agricultural industry for the separation of enantiomers.Separation methods such as chromatography exist but are generally expensive and limited in scale. Stereosynthesis often has prohibitive development and operating costs. For 10 to 15% of known enantiomeric systems, a conglomerate is formed upon crystallization (each individual crystal contains only one type of enantiomer).Crystallization is widely used as an inexpensive separation process which takes advantage of the difference in solubility of the compounds to be separated and yields very high purities in one separation stage. There is no difference in solubility between two enantiomers but in the special case of conglomerates, a difference in crystallization rate can be used as the driving force for the separation of the enantiomers. In this project, the effects of the important parameters governing the crystallization of asparagine (ASN) were studied in order to develop a separation method based on crystallization. ASN is an amino acid having two enantiomers (L-ASN and D-ASN) and forming a conglomerate. The effects of mixing speed, crystallization temperature, initial supersaturation and seeds (amount, type and time of addition) on the crystallization rates were studied. The crystallization temperature was shown to have a negligible effect over the range studied. Increasing initial supersaturations had a strong accelerating effect on the crystallization. The addition of L-ASN seeds increased the crystallization rate of L-ASN without affecting that of D-ASN. The corresponding statement was true for D-ASN. Larger amounts of seeds and faster mixing increased crystallization rates. Separation methods were developed and 95.8-97.7% pure enantiomers with yields of 73.1% were obtained in a cyclic process. The growth and desupersaturation rates were also modeled

The Effect of Skin preparation by Using Aloe Vera Gel on Incidence of Skin Reactions among Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Radiation Therapy

    Get PDF
Background: Breast cancer is one of the most fearful illnesses for women. It accounts for nearly one of every three cancers diagnosed. Carcinoma of the breast is the most prevalent cancer among Egyptian women and constitutes 29% of National Cancer Institute cases and 33% of all female cancers; the median age is 46 years. Radiation therapy is a fundamental treatment modality for cancer. One of the most common acute side effects of radiation therapy treatment is an acute skin reaction, sometimes referred to as radio-dermatitis. This is due to damage to the rapidly dividing cells in the basal layer of the epidermis (Stratum Basal). It is suggested that up to 95% of patients treated with external beam radiation therapy will develop some form of skin reaction. The reaction’s presentation will to some degree impact on the physiological, emotional and financial well-being of the patient, and can be significant enough to warrant cessation of the radiation treatment. Nursing care of patients receiving surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or biologic therapy, alone and in combination, begins with physical and psychological preparation. The vital role of the oncology nurse is assessment of skin reactions, patient education regarding skin care, prevention, and managing skin breakdown if it occurs. Studies have evaluated aloe Vera gel as one of prophylactic agents for radiation-induced skin toxicity. Showing that there are several pharmacologically active compounds presented in the aloe Vera gel may help to decrease inflammation. Aim of the study: to identify the effectiveness of skin preparation by using aloe Vera gel on the incidence of skin reactions among breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. MATERIAL & METHODS: (60) adult female patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer undergoing post operative radiation therapy were randomly and alternatively divided into two equal groups; (30) for each group: Study group    (I)  received skin preparation by using aloe Vera gel and Control group (II) exposed to routine hospital care.  A quasi experimental design was used . Tools: data was collected using a structured interviewing sheet it includes five tools, knowledge assessment sheet, the radiation induced skin reaction assessment scale. Visual analogue pain scale, malnutrition screening tool, and instrumental activities of daily living. Results: the radiation therapy induced skin reaction (erythema, dry desquamation, moist desquamation, necrosis)were significantly decreased among the study group compared to those among the control group. The radiation induced skin reactions symptoms from the patients perspectives of the study group had significantly improved compared to the control group. Conclusions: Usage of Aloe Vera jel in combination of mild soap seemed to have a positive effect on reduction of radiation therapy induced skin reactions and its symptoms. Recommendations: Using aloe Vera gel as a topical agent in all patients' recieving radiation therapy. Developing strict written guidelines with colored pictures about prohibited, allowed skin care activities and substances for care during radiation therapy and instruction given to prevent or minimize the radiation therapy skin reactions. Educational program for patients and their families to inform them about possibility of prevention, how to recognize the radiation induced skin reactions.
