    Lamellicorn Beetles (Coleoptera, Scarabaeoidea) of the Islands of the Peter the Great Gulf, Sea of Japan (Primorsky Krai of Russia)

    The species diversity of lamellicorn beetles (Coleoptera, Scarabaeoidea) on the 20 islands of Peter the Great Gulf was considered and analyzed for the first time, where 83 species from 38 genera were identified. There are 60 species (72.3%) and 20 genera (52.6%) are new for the fauna of the islands, with reference to the literature data. The total fauna with Russky Island (21 islands) includes 87 species from 38 genera of 13 subfamilies and four families of the superfamily Scarabaeoidea. The diversity and degree of study of the group on individual islands is very uneven. Russky Island with 80 species (92% of the total fauna of 21 islands), Popov Island with 42 species (48.3%) and Putyatin Island with 39 species (44.8%) have the most species-rich fauna. On the islands of Kozlov, Rikord, Zheltukhin, and Durnovo, one species was recorded (1.1%). The Scarabaeidae Latreille, 1802 is dominates the fauna of 21 islands—77 species (88.5%), other families are represented by a single species: Trogidae Macleay, 1819—5 species (5.7%), Lucanidae Latreille, 1804—3 species (3.5%), Geotrupidae Latreille, 1802—2 species (2.3%). Scarabaeinae with 15 species (19.5%), Aphodiinae Leach, 1815 with 14 species (18.2%), and Rhizotroginae with 13 species (16.9%) are dominant in the Scarabaeidae fauna. The article deals with the annotated list of species and the studied material, discusses the ecological and zoogeographical features of the local faunas of Scarabaeoidea and features of the faunagenesis of the study area. The local Scarabaeoidea faunas of the islands are characterized by a significant depletion and mosaic composition of the species composition in comparison with the continental fauna. Despite the peculiarity of the climatic conditions of the islands and their significant isolation from the continental coast, the insular faunas of Scarabaeoidea demonstrate a high degree of similarity to the area, and have a logical structure with the continental fauna of lamellicorn beetles due to the geological youth of the island. The islands appeared during the post-Pleistocene transgression of the sea 11 to 8.5 thousand years ago

To evaluate the effectiveness of antioxidants were used the model systems - the solution of isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide in liquid paraffin and a film of 1,4-cis-polyisoprene rubber SKI-3. It is shown that N ,3,5-trimethyl-4-nitroso- N-fenilanilin provides less speed changes in the molecular weight of the polymer in comparison with diphenylamine and PNDFA on 63 and 22 % respectively (during thermal-oxidative aging of elastomers is up to 2 hours at 100 Β°C). Fixed effect is probably due to the greater stability of phenoxyl radicals of sterically hindered nitrosoaniline

    Successful Pregnancy Outcome in Women with Recurrent IVF Failure and Anti-hCG Autoimmunity: A Report of Three Cases

    We report three cases of effective management of infertility in women with a history of repeated unsuccessful IVF attempts, who have developed antibodies to hCG. A novel approach to conservative treatment of immunologic reproductive failure, suggested for selected patients, included membrane plasmapheresis, combined prednisolone, and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. No adverse side effects were observed; all cases resulted in pregnancy and subsequent life births. In order to be given an adequate efficient treatment, women with recurrent implantation failure should be suspected for autoimmune factor of infertility and its possible association with anti-hCG autoimmunity

    Oxidative Stress Markers and Sperm DNA Fragmentation in Men Recovered from COVID-19

    SARS-CoV-2 negatively affects semen characteristics, impairs various biochemical processes in seminal fluid and within spermatogenic cells ultimately leading to male fertility decline. However, the distinct mechanisms, in particular, the role of oxidative stress on the consequences of coronavirus infection, have not been well investigated, which is the purpose of the present study. The standard semen parameters, its pro- and antioxidant system state, as well as the level of sperm DNA fragmentation, were assessed in 17 semen samples of men five months after the coronavirus infection and in 22 age-matched control patients. We determined that the DNA fragmentation rate negatively correlated with the period after coronavirus recovery, as well as seminal fluid superoxide dismutase activity and uric acid level. It was demonstrated that COVID-19 is not always associated with increased DNA fragmentation, allowing them to be considered as two independent factors. Thus, the most significant changes were noted in the samples of men after COVID-19 and abnormal TUNEL results: increased round cell number, decreased seminal fluid’s nitrotyrosine level, and total antioxidant capacity and Zn, as well as an increased 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine level within spermatozoa. The data obtained indicate that increased DNA fragmentation and diminished semen quality in men can be the result of an imbalance in semen pro- and antioxidant components after COVID-19
