The Role of Mesothelin Expression in Serous Ovarian Carcinoma: Impacts on Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Therapeutic Targets

Mesothelin (MSLN) is a protein expressed in the mesothelial cell lining of the pleura, peritoneum, and pericardium; its biological functions in normal cells are still unknown. Experimental studies using knockout mice have suggested that this molecule does not play an important role in development and reproduction. In contrast, it has been observed that this molecule is produced in abnormal amounts in several malignant neoplasms, such as mesotheliomas and pancreatic adenocarcinomas. Many molecular studies have also demonstrated that mesothelin is overexpressed in HSOCs. Here, we discuss the current knowledge of mesothelin and focus on its role in clinical and pathological diagnoses, as well as its impact on the prognosis of HSOC. Moreover, regarding the binding of MSLN to the ovarian cancer antigen CA125, which has been demonstrated in many studies, we also report on signal transduction pathways that may play an important role in the spread and neoplasticprogression of this lethal neoplasm. Given that mesothelin is overexpressed in many solid tumours and has antigenic properties, this molecule could be considered an antigenic target for the treatment of many malignancies. Consequently, we also review the literature to report on mesothelin-targeting therapies for HSOC that have been recently investigated in many clinical studies

The study illustrates the development of the idea of subsidiarity and its recognition as a legal and constitutional principle in the sources of European states. Then analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the application of the principle in relations between levels of government in Germany, Swiss and Italy. In this crisis, the principle of subsidiarity can play an important role in enhancing the demands of the lowest levels of government, if accompanied by a robust and consolidated cooperative system between the center-periphery, while where the paths of collaboration and cooperation between the levels of government are weakening the principle of subsidiarity lends itself to a reading more favorable to centripetal dynamics

Exploring countermovement jump variables across competitive levels and playing positions in futsal

    Get PDF
IntroductionThe aims of this study were to compare several countermovement jump (CMJ) kinetic variables between professional (PRO) and semi-professional (SEMI-PRO) futsal players and examine the differences amongst playing positions.MethodsCMJ performance from 56 male futsal players (25.2 ± 4.8 years; weight: 74.4 ± 6.4 kg) was analysed. Players were separated into PRO (n = 29; 27.0 ± 4.4 years; 75.4 ± 6.0 kg) and SEMI-PRO (n = 27; 22.7 ± 4.3 years; 73.1 ± 6.8 kg), and according to playing position: defenders (n = 16; 25.4 ± 3.7 years; 75.2 ± 6.0 kg), wingers (n = 26; 23.5 ± 4.5 years; 72.0 ± 6.9 kg), and pivots (n = 14; 28.0 ± 5.6 years; 77.8 ± 4.3 kg). Linear mixed models and effect sizes were used for the analyses based on the mean of two jumps for each variable.ResultsPRO players presented a deeper center of mass (COM) displacement (p = 0.002, ES = 0.83), greater eccentric (Ecc) absolute (p = 0.019, ES = 0.61) and relative peak power (p = 0.046, ES = 0.52), and achieved greater Ecc peak velocities (p = 0.004, ES = 0.76) when compared to SEMI-PRO. Non-significant and trivial-to-small differences were observed in all the other CMJ variables according to the competitive level and playing position.DiscussionEcc capabilities (i.e., deeper COM displacement, greater Ecc absolute and relative peak power, and peak velocity) during vertical jump seem to differentiate PRO and SEMI-PRO players. However, CMJ variables do not discriminate amongst playing positions in futsal players

This essay explores the elements which can testify Dante Alighieri’s appreciation towards freedom of dissent: some specific passages of his works (direct clues); the structure of the infernal circles and the implicit meaning of some of their contents (indirect clues); some episodes of his political life, although fragmentary and de bated by doctrine, (behavioral clues). The purpose of the investigation is twofold: on the one hand, to highlight the relevance of Dante’s reflection on dissent under stood as the right/duty to convey truthful information on what happens in the so cial context of belonging; on the other, to argue the difficulty of matching Dante’s taxonomy with the canons of contemporary constitutionalism, where freedom of dissent is protected regardless of the truthfulness of the contents expressed by the dissente
