    Quality family meal times in promoting good social adjustment among adolescents

    The proportion of families eating together has decreased over the years and few findings exist to examine the importance of family meal time quality and its impact on family members? well being. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the quality of family meal times and adolescents? social adjustment. In this study, the family meal is defined as the meal eaten by a person who lives in a multi-person household which takes place at home. Participants consisted of 120 students (males = 60; females = 60) aged 16-18 years old from Tawau, Sabah. The Family Meal Time Questionnaire, Family Functioning Scale (FFS) and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) were administered to investigate self-esteem and perception of family functioning as mediating variables for adolescent social adjustment. Results demonstrated quality family meals were significantly related to higher levels of self-esteem (r = .318, p<.01) and better perceptions of one?s family function (r = .650, p<.01). In conclusion, family meal time may promote better adolescent?s mental health

    Microfabricated Silicon Mixers for Submillisecond Quench-Flow Analysis

    Elucidation of fast chemical reactions such as protein folding requires resolution on a submillisecond time scale. However, most quench-flow and stop-flow techniques only allow chemical processes to be studied after a few milliseconds have elapsed. In order to shorten the minimum observation time for quench-flow experiments, we designed a miniaturized mixer assembly. Two “T” mixers connected by a channel are etched into a 1 cm × 1 cm silicon chip which is interfaced with a commercially available quench-flow instrument. Decreasing the volume of the mixing chambers and the distance between them results in an instrument with greatly reduced dead times. As a test of submillisecond measurements, we studied the basic hydrolysis of phenyl chloroacetate. This reaction proceeds with a second-order rate constant, k = 430 M^(-1) s^(-1), and shows pseudo-first-order kinetics at high hydroxide concentrations. The chemical reaction data demonstrate that the silicon device is capable of initiating and quenching chemical reactions in time intervals as short as 110 μs. The performance of these mixers was further confirmed by visualization using acid-base indicators

Content analysis of 114 respondents revealed 13 themes: those actively considering medical tourism, the perceived benefits, nature of procedures, follow-up care, quality of care, cost, safety, insurance, facilities, family support, language barriers, U.S. government policy crisis, and a final category of those who would never consider medical tourism under any circumstances. Implications for HR management of employee health plans and marketing in the hospitality industry are discussed

    We present Path ORAM, an extremely simple Oblivious RAM protocol with a small amount of client storage. Partly due to its simplicity, Path ORAM is the most practical ORAM scheme known to date with small client storage. We formally prove that Path ORAM has a O(log N) bandwidth cost for blocks of size B = Omega(log^2 N) bits. For such block sizes, Path ORAM is asymptotically better than the best known ORAM schemes with small client storage.     MEDIAL-LATERAL HIP POSITIONS PREDICTED KINETIC ASYMMETRIES DURING BILATERAL SQUATS IN COLLEGIATE ATHLETES FOLLOWING ACLR

    Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) re-injury rates are high in collegiate athletes, and double-leg squats are commonly used following ACL reconstruction (ACLR). The purpose was to quantify the correlations between the medial-lateral shoulder/hip kinematics and bilateral kinetic asymmetries during double-leg squats in collegiate athletes at two assessments. Seventeen collegiate athletes performed three double-leg squats 0-6 months and/or 6-12 months following ACLR. Medial-lateral shoulder/hip positions and bending angles were calculated. Medial-lateral hip positions were significant and strongly correlated with ground reaction force and knee moment asymmetries. A commercially available camera may be used to capture the frontal plane motion as a low-cost and more convenient tool to monitor bilateral kinetic asymmetries during double-leg squats in patients following ACLR

    Lung penetration, bronchopulmonary pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic profile and safety of 3 g of ceftolozane/tazobactam administered to ventilated, critically ill patients with pneumonia

    Objectives: Ceftolozane/tazobactam is approved for hospital-acquired/ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia at double the dose (i.e. 2 g/1 g) recommended for other indications. We evaluated the bronchopulmonary pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic profile of this 3 g ceftolozane/tazobactam regimen in ventilated pneumonia patients. Methods: This was an open-label, multicentre, Phase 1 trial (clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02387372). Mechanically ventilated patients with proven/suspected pneumonia received four to six doses of 3 g of ceftolozane/tazobactam (adjusted for renal function) q8h. Serial plasma samples were collected after the first and last doses. One bronchoalveolar lavage sample per patient was collected at 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 h after the last dose and epithelial lining fluid (ELF) drug concentrations were determined. Pharmacokinetic parameters were estimated by noncompartmental analysis and pharmacodynamic analyses were conducted to graphically evaluate achievement of target exposures (plasma and ELF ceftolozane concentrations >4 mg/L and tazobactam concentrations >1 mg/L; target in plasma: similar to 30% and similar to 20% of the dosing interval, respectively). Results: Twenty-six patients received four to six doses of study drug; 22 were included in the ELF analyses. Ceftolozane and tazobactam T-max (6 and 2 h, respectively) were delayed in ELF compared with plasma (1h). Lung penetration, expressed as the ratio of mean drug exposure (AUC) in ELF to plasma, was 50% (ceftolozane) and 62% (tazobactam). Mean ceftolozane and tazobactam ELF concentrations remained >4 mg/L and >1mg/L, respectively, for 100% of the dosing interval. Therewere no deaths or adverse event-related study discontinuations. Conclusions: In ventilated pneumonia patients, 3 g of ceftolozane/tazobactam q8h yielded ELF exposures considered adequate to cover ceftolozane/tazobactam-susceptible respiratory pathogens
