Anomalous Origin of The Coronary Arteries-Review Article.

    Get PDF
Anomalous origin of the coronary arteries is rare in clinical practice. Different anomalies have different clinical or symptomatic manifestations depending on the patient’s age. However, the majority of coronary artery origin anomalies are silent and are only discovered incidentally during Left Heart Catheterization (LHC). Acute Myocardial Infarction (MI) or even sudden death may occur in patients with an anomalous origin of the Left Main (LM) coronary artery from the right coronary cusp with a subsequent course between the aorta and the pulmonary artery. Therefore, recognition of anomalous origin of the coronary arteries is essential for clinical practice to further classify and properly manage patients with increased risk of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Furthermore, patients found to have an anomaly may be eligible for surgical correction

A CMOS 0.35 μm High Quality Factor Active Filter

    Get PDF
In this work we describe the topology of an active filter using active inductor principle with a high quality factor in CMOS technology. This filter shows a resonant frequency at 6.4 GHz. A negative resistor circuit and Q-enhancement techniques such as channel width and current and voltage optimisation of the transistors compensated serial and parallel loss. S21 parameters were studied in two frequencies 6 GHz and 12 GHz according to the value of a capacitance that tunes the frequency of the filter

Pharmacological and chemical properties of some marine echinoderms

Echinoderms have attracted the attention of scientists over the past few years after identifying a variety of unique structures endowed by interesting biological properties. However, the Moroccan coast biodiversity is still uninvestigated. In our ongoing attempts to valorize the rich Moroccan marine environment, this study aimed at assessing the antimicrobial activity of extracts obtained from three echinoderms Astropecten irregularis, Luidia sarsi and Ophiura albida against the human pathogens: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica and Bacillus subtilis. Moreover, their antioxidant activities were tested using standard methods in addition to the antidiabetic activity which has been evaluated in vitro against α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. HPLC-DAD-QTOF-MS analysis revealed a significant content of some phenolic compounds such as pyrogallol, gallic, sinapic, ferulic, p-hydroxybenzoic and salicylic acids whose existence can be related to the endophytic fungi and/or dietary intake whereas GC-MS analysis exhibited diverse chemical structures such as cholesterol, oleic acid and glycerol 1-palmitate

pNaKtide Attenuates Steatohepatitis and Atherosclerosis by Blocking Na/K-ATPase/ROS Amplification in C57BI6 and ApoE Knockout Mice Fed a Western Diet

We have previously reported that the alpha1 subunit of sodium potassium adenosine triphosphatase (Na/K-ATPase), acts as a receptor and an amplifier for reactive oxygen species, in addition to its distinct pumping function. On this background, we speculated that blockade of Na/K-ATPase-induced ROS amplification with a specific peptide, pNaKtide, might attenuate the development of steatohepatitis. To test this hypothesis, pNaKtide was administered to a murine model of NASH: the C57Bl6 mouse fed a western diet containing high amounts of fat and fructose. The administration of pNaKtide reduced obesity as well as hepatic steatosis, inflammation and fibrosis. Of interest, we also noted marked improvement in mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation, insulin sensitivity, dyslipidemia and aortic streaking in this mouse model. To further elucidate the effects of pNaKtide on atherosclerosis, similar studies were performed in ApoE knockout mice also exposed to the western diet. In these mice, pNaKtide not only improved steatohepatitis, dyslipidemia, and insulin sensitivity, but also ameliorated significant aortic atherosclerosis. Collectively, this study demonstrates that the Na/K-ATPase/ROS amplification loop contributes significantly to the development and progression of steatohepatitis and atherosclerosis. And furthermore, this study presents a potential treatment, the pNaKtide, for the metabolic syndrome phenotype
