    Agri-environmental schemes involving organic farming or set-aside management aim at promoting biodiversity and restoring ecosystem functioning in agrarian landscapes. Application of pesticides in these crop fields is strongly regulated facilitating the spread of weeds but also allowing for the establishment of endangered herbs and a variety of animals. Recent studies found gastropods and earthworms to be legitimate dispersers of seeds of wild plants. We assumed that both groups also play a significant role in the spread and establishment of wild plants within crop fields. Therefore, we are conducting a series of experiments in three different study systems on (1) the role of earthworms and gastropods as dispersers of rare herbs and weeds in an organic rye field in Germany, (2) the seed feeding behavior of gastropods of plants sown in fallow ground in Switzerland, and (3) weed dispersal in irrigated rice fields by golden apple snails in the Philippine

    The Hourglass Nebulae of Sher 25 and SN 1987 A: Two of a Kind?

    We have performed a detailed study of the morphology and kinematics of the hourglass-shaped nebula around the blue supergiant Sher 25 in the galactic giant HII region NGC 3603. Near-infrared high resolution adaptive optics images in the Br gamma line and HST/NICMOS images in the HeI 1.08mu line were compared with iso-velocity maps in the H alpha and [NII] lines. The adaptive optics observations clearly resolved the width of the ring (0.9", i.e., 0.027 pc), yielding delta R / R = 1:8. We show that the H alpha and [NII] lines trace the entire silhouette of the hourglass. The bipolar lobes of the hourglass expand at 70 km/s, whereas the ring around the waist of the hourglass expands at 30 km/s. Both the ring and the bipolar lobes have about the same dynamical age, indicating a common origin and a major outburst and mass-loss event 6630 yr ago. The ionized mass within the hourglass is between 0.3 Mo and 0.6 Mo - quite comparable to the total mass suggested for the expanding (pre-supernova) shell around SN 1987 A. The hourglass structure around Sher 25 is similar to that of SN 1987 A in spatial extent, mass, and velocities. The major differences between these two nebulae might arise from environmental effects. Both internal and external ionization sources are available for Sher 25's nebula. Furthermore, Sher 25 and its hourglass-shaped nebula appear to be moving to the south-west with respect to the ambient interstellar medium, and ram pressure has apparently deformed the hourglass.     A Two-dimensional Map of Color Excess in NGC 3603

    Using archival HST/WFC3 images centered on the young HD 97950 star cluster in the giant HII region NGC 3603, we computed the pixel-to-pixel distribution of the color excess, E(B-V)g, of the gas associated with this cluster from its H_alpha/Pa_beta flux ratio. At the assumed distance of 6.9 kpc, the resulting median color excess within 1 pc from the cluster center is E(B-V)g =1.51 \pm 0.04 mag. Outside the cluster (at r > 1 pc), the color excess is seen to increase with cluster-centric distance towards both North and South, reaching a value of about 2.2 mag at r = 2 pc from the cluster center. The radial dependence of E(B-V)g westward of the cluster appears rather flat at about 1.55 mag over the distance range 1.2 pc < r < 3 pc. In the eastern direction, E(B-V)g steadily increases from 1.5 mag at r = 1 pc to 1.7 mag at r = 2 pc, and stays nearly constant at 1.7 mag for 2 pc < r < 3 pc. The different radial profiles and the pixel-to-pixel variations of E(B-V)g clearly indicate the presence of significant differential reddening across the 4.9 pc \times 4.3 pc area centered on the HD 97950 star cluster. We interpret the variations of E(B-V)g as the result of stellar radiation and stellar winds interacting with an inhomogeneous dusty local interstellar medium (ISM) whose density varies spatially. From the E(B-V)g values measured along the rims of the prominent pillars MM1 and MM2 in the southwest and southeast of the HD 97950 cluster we estimate an H2 column density of log10(N(H2))=21.7 and extrapolate it to log10(N(H2))=23 in the pillars' interior. We find the pillars to be closer to us than the central ionizing cluster and suggest that star formation may be occurring in the pillar heads.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in A

    Trabectedin for Metastatic Soft Tissue Sarcoma: A Retrospective Single Center Analysis

    Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) comprises a large variety of rare malignant tumors. Development of distant metastasis is frequent, even in patients undergoing initial curative surgery. Trabectedin, a tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid isolated from the Caribbean marine tunicate Ecteinascidia turbinata, was approved in 2007 for patients with advanced STS after failure of anthracyclines and ifosfamide, or for patients unsuited to receive these agents. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed 25 patients who had been treated with trabectedin at our institution between 2007 and 2010. The majority (72%) had been heavily pre-treated with ≥2 previous lines of chemotherapy. Response assessed by conventional RECIST criteria was low, with only one patient achieving a partial remission (PR) and 10 stable disease (SD) after three cycles of treatment. However, median progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were significantly prolonged in this population compared to non-responders, with 7.7 months versus 2.1 months (p < 0.0001; HR 15.37, 95% CI 4.3 to 54.5) and 12.13 months versus 5.54 months (p = 0.0137; HR 3.7, 95% CI 1.3 to 10.5), respectively. PFS for all patients was 58% at three months and 37% at six months. Side effects, including neutropenia, elevation of liver transaminases/liver function tests, and nausea/vomiting, were usually mild and manageable. However, dose reductions due to side effects were necessary in five patients. We conclude that trabectedin is an effective and generally well tolerated treatment for STS even in a heavily pre-treated patient population

    CsxFA1 xPb I1 yBry 3 Perovskite Compositions the Appearance of Wrinkled Morphology and its Impact on Solar Cell Performance

    We report on the formation of wrinkle patterned surface morphologies in cesium formamidinium based CsxFA1 amp; 8722;xPb I1 amp; 8722;yBry 3 perovskite compositions with x 0 amp; 8722;0.3 and y 0 amp; 8722;0.3 under various spin coating conditions. By varying the Cs and Br contents, the perovskite precursor solution concentration and the spin coating procedure, the occurrence and characteristics of the wrinkle shaped morphology can be tailored systematically. Cs0.17FA0.83Pb I0.83Br0.17 3 perovskite layers were analyzed regarding their surface roughness, microscopic structure, local and overall composition, and optoelectronic properties. Application of these films in p amp; 8722;i amp; 8722;n perovskite solar cells PSCs with indium doped tin oxide NiOx perovskite C60 bathocu proine Cu architecture resulted in up to 15.3 and 17.0 power conversion efficiency for the flat and wrinkled morphology, respectively. Interestingly, we find slightly red shifted photoluminescence PL peaks for wrinkled areas and we are able to directly correlate surface topography with PL peak mapping. This is attributed to differences in the local grain size, whereas there is no indication for compositional demixing in the films. We show that the perovskite composition, crystallization kinetics, and layer thickness strongly influence the formation of wrinkles which is proposed to be related to the release of compressive strain during perovskite crystallization. Our work helps us to better understand film formation and to further improve the efficiency of PSCs with widely used mixed perovskite composition

    In dieser Studie wurden 25 erwachsene Patienten mit den langjährigen Vordiagnosen einer intellektuellen Behinderung, kindlichen Psychosen oder tiefgreifenden Entwicklungsstörungen eingeschlossen. Ziel der Studie war einerseits die Frage ob sich im Spektrum dieser Erkrankungen, die in Karl Leonhards Nosologie beschriebenen (früh)kindlichen Katatonien als eigenständiges Krankheitsbild identifizieren und definieren sowie von den o. b. Krankheitsbildern differentialdiagnostisch abgrenzen lassen. Die Katatonieformen wurden hinsichtlich ihres Beginns und Verlaufs ausgewertet. Ein weiteres Ziel war die diagnostische Definierung des Kranheitsbildes im Sinne einer Herausarbeitung der genauen Symptomatik. Um Betroffene besser fördern und behandeln zu können wurden darüber hinaus familiäre und soziale Einflussfaktoren analysiert. Die Probanden wurden zwischen 2013 und 2015 nachuntersucht, sie stammen sämtlich aus Klinikbeobachtungen vorangegangen stationärer psychiatrischer Aufenthalte.In this study 25 adult patients with a history of intellectual disability, childhood psychoses or pervasive developmental disorders were included. One aim of this investigation was to determine, whether in these subgroups, the “early childhood catatonias” described in Karl Leonhard´s nosology were identifiable und definable as an independent group of disorders beginning early in life. The catatonic forms were evaluated concerning their beginning and long-term-course. With regard to diagnostic aspects they were distinguished from the above mentioned diseases, furthermore the interrater-reliability was examined. Other aims were the diagnostic definition of early childhood catatonias and its typical symptoms. In order to improve the treatment of affected individuals and promote adequate care possible social and familial factors were also evaluated. The patients were re-examined between 2013 and 2015 after preceding psychiatric inpatient treatment
