Electron microscopical studies on Synura covered with minute silica scales have not yet precisely been made in Japan, excepting a few publications by TAKAHASHl(1959,1960,1961).The present writer is going to explain the results of his investigation on morphology and distribution of Synura Petersenii,Synura Petersenii var. glabra,Synura spinosa,Synura phagnicola,Synura echinulata and its forma and Synura uvella in ponds at Tsuruoka Park,in ponds of swamp at Mt.Gassan and other lakes in the mountainous region, and paddy-field consisting of rice nursery, rice field and narrow ditch, and also on seasonal fluctuation of Synura Petersenii and its var.glabra and Synura spinosa in ponds at Tsuruoka Park during a period from 1961 to 1962.Sincere thanks are due to Professer Dr. Noboru ABE for his guidances, and a1so to Mrs. Katharine Harris of University of Reading, and Professer Dr.Shoichiro Suzuki of Yamagata University for their invaluable advices

Fifty-two taxa of microorganisms, including 20 taxa of diatoms, 7 of choanoflagellates, 5 of Paraphysomonas, and other 20 taxa, were determined from fixed and unfixed samples of the sea ice and lake water which were collected from a lagoon, Lake Saroma, Hokkaido in February 1979. The diatom population was dominantly distributed both in the sea ice and lake water, and Dunaliella sp. Gymnodinium sp. and Quadrichloris sp. Were relatively abundant in the sea ice. Forty-five taxa were found in the sea ice and 41 taxa of them were distributed in the bottom part. Twenty-nine taxa of microorganisms were found with the optical microscope, whereas other 23 taxa were identified by the electron microscope. Two taxa each of Paraphysomonas, Chrysochromulina and Pinaciophora, and 7 taxa of choanoflagellates are new to Japan

Synthesis and Catalytic Activity of Surfactant-Templated Nanoporous TiO(2)

    Get PDF
Nanoporous TiO(2) were synthesized via hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) in HCl acidic conditions using sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) as a templating agent. The order of the nanostructure of samples before calcination was improved with increasing the SDS/TTIP molar ratio. The calcined samples presented uniform mesopore structure with the average diameter of 4-5 nm and considerably large surface areas over 200m(2)/g, although the periodicity of the nanostructure was exceedingly reduced by the removal of the template. The prepared TiO(2) exhibited exceedingly higher activities on the catalytic oxidation of benzene compared to the commercial TiO(2), probably due to the difference of their pore suructures
