    Arylation of 1,2,4-triazines in the presence of AlCl3

    This paper presents a method for introducing toluene and bromobenzene moieties into 1,2,4-triazines as an alternative to cross-coupling reactions.     Controlling the Interactions between Soft Colloids via Surface Adsorption

    By employing monomer-resolved computer simulations and analytical considerations based on polymer scaling theory, we analyze the conformations and interactions of multiarm star polymers strongly adsorbed on a smooth, two-dimensional plane. We find a stronger stretching of the arms as well as a stronger repulsive, effective interaction than in the three dimensional case. In particular, the star size scales with the number of arms ff as f1/4\sim f^{1/4} and the effective interaction as f2\sim f^{2}, as opposed to f1/5\sim f^{1/5} and f3/2\sim f^{3/2}, respectively, in three dimensions. Our results demonstrate the dramatic effect that geometric confinement can have on the effective interactions and the subsequent correlations of soft colloids in general, for which the conformation can be altered as a result of geometrical constraints imposed on them.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, 5 figures, to appear in Macromolecule

    59Co NMR study of the Co states in superconducting and anhydrous cobaltates

    59^{59}Co NMR spectra in oriented powders of Na0.35_{0.35}CoO2_{2} and in its hydrated superconducting phase (HSC) Na0.35_{0.35}CoO2_{2},1.3H2_{2}O reveal a single electronic Co state with identical TT independent NMR shift tensor. These phases differ markedly from Na0.7_{0.7}CoO2_{2}, in which we resolve 3 types of Co sites. The large T variation of their spin susceptibilities χs\chi ^{s} and the anisotropy of the orbital susceptibility χorb\chi ^{orb} allow us to conclude that charge disproportionation occurs, in a non magnetic Co3+^{3+} and two magnetic sites with about 0.3 and 0.7 holes in the t2gt_{2g} multiplet. The data are consistent with those for the single Co site in the anhydrous and HSC phase assuming the expected Co3.65+^{3.65+} charge.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Phys.     Signature of Fermi arc surface states in Andreev reflection at the WTe2_2 Weyl semimetal surface

    We experimentally investigate charge transport through the interface between a niobium superconductor and a three-dimensional WTe2_2 Weyl semimetal. In addition to classical Andreev reflection, we observe sharp non-periodic subgap resistance resonances. From an analysis of their positions, magnetic field and temperature dependencies, we can interpret them as an analog of Tomasch oscillations for transport along the topological surface state across the region of proximity-induced superconductivity at the Nb-WTe2_2 interface. Observation of distinct geometrical resonances implies a specific transmission direction for carriers, which is a hallmark of the Fermi arc surface states.Comment: 5 pages, some misprints has been correcte

    Strong light-matter coupling: parametric interactions in a cavity and free-space

    We consider parametric interactions of laser pulses in a coherent macroscopic ensemble of resonant atoms, which are possible in the strong coupling regime of light-matter interaction. The spectrum condensation (lasing at collective vacuum Rabi sidebands) was studied in an active cavity configuration. Parametric interactions under the strong light-matter coupling were proved even in free space. In contrast to bichromatic beats in a cavity, they were shown to appear due to interference between polaritonic wave packets of different group velocities.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
