Domain Wall Fermions with Exact Chiral Symmetry

    Get PDF
We show how the standard domain wall action can be simply modified to allow arbitrarily exact chiral symmetry at finite fifth dimensional extent. We note that the method can be used for both quenched and dynamical calculations. We test the method using smooth and thermalized gauge field configurations. We also make comparisons of the performance (cost) of the domain wall operator for spectroscopy compared to other methods such as the overlap-Dirac operator and find both methods are comparable in cost.Comment: revtex, 37 pages, 11 color postscript figure

The impact of Chinese import penetration on the South African manufacturing sector

    Get PDF
This article uses a Chenery-type decomposition and econometric estimation to evaluate the impact of Chinese trade on production and employment in South African manufacturing from 1992 to 2010. The results suggest that increased import penetration from China caused South African manufacturing output to be 5 per cent lower in 2010 than it otherwise would have been. The estimated reduction of total employment in manufacturing as a result of trade with China is larger ā€“ in 2010 about 8 per cent ā€“ because the declines in output were concentrated on labour-intensive industries and because the increase in imports raised labour productivity within industries

    Outer planets probe testing

An atmospheric entry Probe is being developed by NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) to conduct in situ scientific investigations of the outer planets' atmospheres. A full scale engineering model of an MDAC-E Probe configuration, was fabricated by NASA ARC. Proof-of-concept test validation of the structural and thermal design is being obtained at NASA ARC. The model was successfully tested for shock and dynamic loading and is currently in thermal vacuum testing

    Isoscalar Ļ€Ļ€,KKā€¾,Ī·Ī·\pi\pi, K\overline{K}, \eta\eta scattering and the Ļƒ,f0,f2\sigma, f_0, f_2 mesons from QCD

We present the first lattice QCD study of coupled isoscalar Ļ€Ļ€,KKā€¾,Ī·Ī·\pi\pi,K\overline{K},\eta\eta SS- and DD-wave scattering extracted from discrete finite-volume spectra computed on lattices which have a value of the quark mass corresponding to mĻ€āˆ¼391m_\pi\sim391 MeV. In the JP=0+J^P=0^+ sector we find analogues of the experimental Ļƒ\sigma and f0(980)f_0(980) states, where the Ļƒ\sigma appears as a stable bound-state below Ļ€Ļ€\pi\pi threshold, and, similar to what is seen in experiment, the f0(980)f_0(980) manifests itself as a dip in the Ļ€Ļ€\pi\pi cross section in the vicinity of the KKā€¾K\overline{K} threshold. For JP=2+J^P=2^+ we find two states resembling the f2(1270)f_2(1270) and f2ā€²(1525)f_2'(1525), observed as narrow peaks, with the lighter state dominantly decaying to Ļ€Ļ€\pi\pi and the heavier state to KKā€¾K\overline{K}. The presence of all these states is determined rigorously by finding the pole singularity content of scattering amplitudes, and their couplings to decay channels are established using the residues of the poles
