Construction and Software Design for a Microcomputer Controlled pH/Ion Titrator

The construction of an automated titration device is described. The major components include an Apple II+ Microcomputer and 8-bit parallel interface. Fisher Accumet, Model 520 Digital pH/lon Meter, Gilmont Micrometer Buret of 2.5 mL capacity, Sigma stepper motor, power supply and driver to operate the buret, and a constant temperature bath of ± 0.005 °C stability. The limitations of the system are 0.001 pH/0.1 mv for the pH/ion sensing system, and 0.125 μL per step for the buret. The system as described is designed to determine equilibrium constants for metal ion-amino acid complexes. By changing the software a variety of different pH and redox titration experiments may be performed. A computer program used to operate the stepper motor driven syringe buret and record the pH from a digital pH meter is described. The program uses both Apple BASIC and assembly language. This is a closed loop operation in which the data from the pH meter is used to control the amount of reagent delivered by the buret. The results are displayed graphically as the titration proceeds. The variance of the pH readings are calculated using an assembly language subroutine and the calculations are done with zero round-off error

Law's Looking Glass: Expert Identification Evidence Derived from Photographic and Video Images

This article offers a critical overview of expert identification evidence based on images. It reviews the Australian case law and then, in an interdisciplinary manner, endeavours to explain methodological, technical and theoretical problems with facial mapping evidence. It suggests that extant admissibility jurisprudence and traditional safeguards associated with expert opinion evidence and the adversarial trial might not adequately protect those accused of committing criminal acts when they are confronted with incriminating expert identification evidence

Next-to-Leading Order Cross Sections for New Heavy Fermion Production at Hadron Colliders

We evaluate the cross sections for new heavy fermion production at three Large Hadron Collider energies accurate to next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. We treat the cases of pair production of heavy quarks via strong interactions, single heavy quark production via electroweak interactions, and the production of heavy leptons. Theoretical uncertainties associated with the choice of the renormalization scale and the parton distribution functions are specified. We derive a simple and useful parameterization of our results which should facilitate phenomenological studies of new physics models that predict new heavy quarks and/or leptons.Comment: Phys. Rev. : Hypertension is a condition where a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal on examination of blood pressure.Research by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2009, the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia in 2007 reached 32.2 %, while 30.5 % occurred in the North of Sulawesi. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to maintain an erection that is experienced by men due to various factors. Uncontrolled hypertension can damage blood vessels, causing blood vessels lose their elasticity and the volume of blood that flows to the penis during erection. The purpose of the study to determine the effects and erectile dysfunction and treatment in hypertensive men. The method used is descriptive research method. The research took place in the Hypertension Clinic (Internal Medicine) Government General Hospital of Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado. Samples taken in the study were hypertensive men with the age group 40-65 years. The research is conducted by using the IIEF-5 questionnaire. The number of samples obtained 45 patients with hypertension, with the following results: 11 mild erectile dysfunction (24%), moderate-mild dysfunction 19 people (42%), moderate dysfunction 12 people (27%), severe dysfunction 3 people (7%). This research concludes that all men participating in research, is having an erectile dysfunction
