Quevedo y su recepción y huella en la poesía del Siglo XX (De Rubén Darío a José Emilio Pacheco)

The metaphysical and love poetry of the Spanish writer Francisco de Quevedo (1580-1645) has exceeded all the dynamics that writing at that time had imposed: its rhetoric shows the intimacy of the poet's feelings and his anguish in a way that it approaches him to the existentialist pain of a contemporary man. Quevedo was valued as a Humanist thinker and an original concept-maker both, in his own life as well as in his writings; thus, Quevedo's verbal inventions, ideological perspectives, and innovative expressions that renewed the Petrarchan and Cancioneril traditions, have been intensely reread by Contemporary poets. First, I delimit some of Quevedo's poetics that called the attention of 20th Century poetic generations, contextualizing them in the Baroque period. Stemming from Dámaso Alonso's seminal study, "El desgarrón afectivo en la poesía de Quevedo," I focus on the term "affective tearing" in the context of Renaissance anthropology (affectus is defined as the rhetorical, semantic and syntactical lyrical expressions that manifest the breakup of the analogical traditional world view). The influence of Quevedo at the beginning of the 20th century is explored in the second chapter in the figure of the Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío through the legacies of the Baroque time during the Modernist period. Having broken the link between the symbol and the symbolized, Darío had to reformulate some poetic concepts. In the third chapter, I concentrate on the term "sincerity" as a rhetorical trope that connects passion and intellect, after Gracián's theory of poetical language, a motto for the avant guard poets, both Spanish and Latin Americans, living in Europe before WWII. I explore their poetics and the legacies from the Baroque and the Romanticism as they had to work in a diverse symbolic horizon, very different from their predecessors. In the fourth chapter I focus on the poetic dialogue between Quevedo and the Peruvian poet César Vallejo regarding the transcendence in death and through the body. Finally, I trace the legacy of Quevedo in the second half of the 20th century in the poems of Pablo Neruda, Jorge Luis Borges and Octavio Paz. Some of Quevedo's topics are glossed, others are rethought, others are adapted to new contexts, but all these poets recognize their debt to the Spanish Baroque poet. In order to demonstrate that Quevedo's poetry continues to be reread and rewritten, I conclude my study with the works published in the 21st century by the Mexican poet José Emilio Pacheco

El manifiesto artístico de Alejandro González Trujillo, Apu-Rimak, en sus cartas a Yolanda Bedregal

A partir de un amplio conjunto de cartas, hasta ahora inéditas, escritas por el artista peruano AlejandroGonzález Trujillo, y enviadas a la joven escritora boliviana Yolanda Bedregal entre 1934 y 1936, hemosextractado diversas reflexiones que nos dan la posibilidad de componer una suerte de manifiesto artístico del pintor. Las cartas permiten recrear ese periodo cusqueño de González Trujillo, su vida, sus afanes y sus trabajos en viajes artísticos y patrimoniales por el sur del Perú, a la par que evocar su disciplina y formación en la vida y en el arte, así como su profunda vocación de educador. Sus pensamientos dejan entrever un compromiso inquebrantable con la cultura peruana prehispánica, con su propio arte y su posición dentro de las tensiones del campo artístico peruano de esos años. Se pone también en evidencia el fervor con el que los artistas peruanos abordaron la inconmensurable labor de catalogar el legado de sus ancestros. The letters allow us to recreate that Cusco period of González Trujillo, his life, his efforts, and his works in artistic and patrimonial journeys through the south of Peru while evoking his discipline training in life and art, as well as his profound vocation as an educator. His thoughts reveal an unwavering commitment to pre-Hispanic Peruvian culture, his art, and his position within the tensions of the Peruvian artistic field of those years. It also shows the fervor with which Peruvian artists approached the immeasurable task of cataloging their ancestors’ legacy. Development and evaluation of thymol-chitosan hydrogels with antimicrobial-antioxidant activity for oral local delivery

Nowadays, the research of innovative drug delivery devices is focused on the design of multiple drug delivery systems, the prevention of drug side effects and the reduction of dosing intervals. Particularly, new mucosal delivery systems for antimicrobials, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs has a growing development, regards to the avoidance of side effects, easy administration and a suitable drug concentration in the mucosa. Inthis work, chitosan hydrogels are evaluated as a biodegradable scaffold and as a bioactive agent carrier of an antioxidant-antimicrobial compound called thymol.Throughout the study, swelling behavior, viscoelastic properties and thermal analysis are highlighted to present its advantages for a biomedical application. Furthermore, the in vitro results obtained indicate that thymol-chitosan hydrogels are biocompatible when exposed to [3T3] fibroblasts, exhibit antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans for 72 h and antioxidant activity for 24 h. These are desirable properties for a mucosal delivery system for an antimicrobial-antioxidant dual therapy for periodontal disease.Fil: Alvarez Echazú, María Inés. Development of pH-responsive biopolymer-silica composites loaded with Larrea divaricata Cav. extract with antioxidant activity

A detailed study of biomaterials is mandatory to comprehend their feasible biomedical applications in terms of drug delivery and tissue regeneration. Particularly, mucoadhesive biopolymers such as chitosan (chi) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) have become interesting biomaterials regards to their biocompatibility and non-toxicity for oral mucosal drug delivery. In this work, pH-responsive biopolymer-silica composites (Chi-SiO 2 , Chi-CMC-SiO 2 ) were developed. These two types of composites presented a different swelling behavior due to the environmental pH. Moreover, the nanocomposites were loaded with aqueous Larrea divaricata Cav. extract (Ld), a South American plant which presents antioxidant properties suitable for the treatment of gingivoperiodontal diseases. Chi-CMC-SiO 2 composites showed the highest incorporation and reached the 100% of extract release in almost 4 days while they preserved their antioxidant properties. In this study, thermal and swelling behavior were pointed out to show the distinct water-composite interaction and therefore to evaluate their mucoadhesivity. Furthermore, a cytotoxicity test with 3T3 fibroblasts was assessed, showing that in both composites the addition of Larrea divaricata Cav. extract increased fibroblast proliferation. Lastly, preliminary in vitro studies were performed with simulated body fluids. Indeed, SEM-EDS analysis indicated that only chi-SiO 2 composite may provide an environment for possible biomineralization while the addition of CMC to the composites discouraged calcium accumulation. In conclusion, the development of bioactive composites could promote the regeneration of periodontal tissue damaged throughout periodontal disease and the presence of silica nanoparticles could provide an environment for biomineralization.Fil: Alvarez Echazú, María Inés.
