For many years it has been suspected that this disease might be associated with an imbalance between unsaturated and saturated fatty acids.     Assesment of Serum Magnesium Level in Postmenopausal Women With Osteoporosis

    Objectives: This study was designed to assess nutritional and biochemical factor of magnesium in postmenopausal osteoporotic women. Methods & Materials: The population of this analytical cross- sectional study, was 60 postmenopausal osteoporotic women ,referred to rheumateology clinic of Tabriz. Nutritional intake was determined by 3 day food recall and food frequency questionnaire، individual and clinical information by questionnaire and weight and height of subjects were measured by scale. Serum magnesium concentration was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed using analytical and descriptive statistical methods. Results: Mean age of women were 58.85 years old .Mean of energy and protein intake from diet was 1876 kcal, 53.3 g/day,respectively.The mean intake of magnesium from diet was 120 mg/day that was significantly lower than recommended dietary allowance (P<0.05) (37%RDA). Mean of magnesium serum concentration in this patients was 0.7&plusmn;0.01 mmol/L that was in less normal ranges.The correlation between magnesium intake and age was significantly negative. Conclusion: Base on this study finding ,magnesium status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis was not siutable considering the significant correlation between magnesium intake and bone mineral density and important role of magnesium on bone metabolism, nutritional education to intake magnesium rich foods, is suggested for maintanence of bone density

    Correlation between obesity and overweight with attention deficit among elementary schools girls

    Background and Objective: The obesity and overweight in the children of many developing countries have dramatically increased. Obesity is associated with numerous health problems. While children spend a significant amount of their time in school daily, the various aspects of children school-life such as academic achievement, social skills and attendance, can be affected by obesity and overweight. This study was done to determine the correlation between obesity and overweight with attention dificit in elementary school girls. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-cross sectional study was carried out on 300 girls student of 7-11 years old, in elementary schools in capital city of east Azarbijan cocated North-West of Iran in 2007. The samples selected based on body mass index and were classified by random sampling in three groups including, normal group, overweight group and obese group. The data, collected by child behavior check list (CBCL). The CBCL have 113 iteams, 9 iteams of them were designed for determination of attention dificit in children. The behaviors were scored on a 3-point ranging scale. SPSS-11.5 software and ANOVA statistical test were used to analyse the data. Results: The results showed that overweight group had greater scores in attention dificit scale than other groups and revealed a significant correlation between obesity-over weight and attention dificit (r=0.177, P<0.05). Conclusion: This study indicated a significant correlation between obesity and attention dificit. Prevention of obesity as a first step for prevention of behavioral problems, seems to be essentieal. The treatment of obesity may be a matter of dealing with behavioral problems in children

    Association of Expanded Disability Status Scale and Cytokines after Intervention with Co-supplemented Hemp Seed, Evening Primrose Oils and Hot-natured Diet in Multiple Sclerosis Patients

    Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Because of limited efficacy and adverse side effects, identifying novel therapeutic and protective agents is important. The aim of this study is to examine the correlations between expanded disability status scale (EDSS) and cytokines after intervention with co-supplemented hemp seed and evening primrose oils and hot-natured diet in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). Methods: We studied a group of 23 patients with clinically definite RRMS, with EDSS<6 who received co-supplemented hemp seed and evening primrose oils with advising hot-natured diet. Clinically EDSS and immunological factors (plasma cytokines of IL-4, IFN-γ and IL-17) were assessed at baseline and after 6 months. Results: Mean follow-up was 180±2.9 days (N=23, 7 Male and 16 Females aged 25.0±7.5 years with disease duration 6.26±3.9 years). After 6 months, significant improvements in extended disability status score were found in the patients in agreement with decrease cytokines of IFN-γ and IL-17 and increase cytokines of IL-4. Clinical and immunological parameters showed improvement in the patients after the intervention. Conclusion: Our study shows that co-supplemented hemp seed and evening primrose oils with hot-natured diet can have beneficial effects in improving clinical symptoms in relapsing remitting MS patients and significant correlation was found between EDSS and immunological findings
