A survey was conducted to identify the hoverflies in Northern Iran during 2010-2011. As a part of this study, Spilomyia triangulata van Steenis, 2000 is recorded for the first time from Iran. Diagnostic characters and geographical distribution of the newly recorded species is briefly discussed. Supplementary photographs of the species are provided

The phylogeny of the hydrophilid genus Sternolophus Solier, 1834 was examined in this study using 60 morphological adult characters, eight of them continuous and 52 discrete. The cladistic analysis resulted in a single most parsimonious tree with two major subclades corresponding, respectively, to species previously assigned to the subgenera Sternolophus s. str. Solier and Neosternolophus Zaitzev, although they are not re-instated. The species groups S. angolensis (Erichson, 1843) and S. solieri Castelnau, 1840 are recovered as monophyletic. The biogeography and diversification of the species of Sternolophus are briefly discussed

The genus Dasydorylas Skevington in Iran, with the description of two new species (Diptera: Pipunculidae)

The genus Dasydorylas Skevington, 2001 is recorded from two provinces in Iran (Sistan-o Baluchestan and Kermanshah Provinces). Dasydorylas derafshani sp. nov. and D. zardouei sp. nov. are illustrated and characterized morphologically and by DNA barcoding of the mitochondrial COI gene. Eudorylas antennalis Kapoor, Grewal & Sharma, 1987 is transferred to Dasydorlyas (comb. nov.). An existing identification key to the males of the western Palaearctic species of Dasydorylas is complemented to include the newly described species.</p

Genus Epistrophe Walker, 1852 (Insects: Diptera: Syrphidae) in Northern Iran, with a new species record

No full text
The genus Epistrophe Walker, 1852 (Diptera: Syrphidae) was studied in the north of Iran. The specimens were collected using malaise traps between March and August 2011. Three species were collected and identified: Epistrophe nitidicollis (Meigen, 1822), E. eligans (Harris, 1780) and E. euchroma (Kowarz, 1885). E. nitidicollis is a new record from Iran. Geographical distribution of the three species are briefly discussed. An identification key with supplementary figures is presented for the species of the genus Epistrophe occurring in this region

The genus Dasysyrphus Enderlein, 1938 (Diptera: Syrphidae) was studied in Northern Iran. Two species, D. albostriatus (Fallen, 1817) and D. tricinctus (Fallen, 1817) were identified. D. tricinctus is a new record for the fauna of Iran. Diagnostic characters and geographical distribution of D. tricinctus are briefly discussed. Supplementary photographs of the species are provided
