Stress: The Development and Influence on Self-Identity

    Get PDF
Using a grounded theory methodology and constantcomparative analysis, the investigator sought to develop an empirical understanding of the experience of stress and its influence on identity development. The 23 participants, who did not meet criteria for a DSM-IV-TR diagnoses, received 10 - 60 minutes sessions of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing treatment (EMDR). EMDR treatment targets stressful memories and elicits recall of thoughts, imagery, emotions, and physical body sensations related to the stressful experience. The data from video recorded sessions provided holistic information regarding each participant’s experience and recall of stressful events. The results yielded thematic developmental patterns of thoughts, emotional experiences, and physical body sensations. These thematic patterns provide improved understanding of the influence of stress on holistic identity development. The findings have implications to manage stress, compassion fatigue, burnout, and anxiety.https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/archivedposters/1076/thumbnail.jp

Understanding the variance across the sex/gender/affectional continua is a foundational part of clinical practice with gender influenced client issues. All clients have biological developments that lead to sex/gender/affectional differentiation and variance. As a specialist in this topic area, I have discovered that most of my clients have experienced indirect clinical barriers that required focused treatment on sex/gender/affectional issues. In this chapter, I will share how I have improved positive treatment outcomes by integrating a sex/gender/affectional continua and Eriksonian psychosocial development across all phases of EMDR therapy. This chapter will offer an explanation of sex/gender/affectional continua and Eric Erickson\u27s psychosocial stage of adolescence, ego identity versus role confusion

This is not given as an accurate map, but only to afford an idea of the progress of the army from the landing at Elk to the taking of possession of Philadelphia. The brown lines are the supposed marches of the rebels.
