    Get PDF
The aim of the current study is to examine the scientific publications produced in the field of social innovation (SI) during a period of roughly 40 years through 1975-2018. The analysis based on the bibliometric evaluation of all publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database including "Social Innovation" (SI) phrase in the title, abstract or key words. The research is carried out through parameters including the number of publications in line with the years, authors, journals and country, publication types, citation analyses, collaborations and also concept-topic tendencies. Results indicated that the vast majority of SI studies are published as an “article”. Respectively, UK, USA and Italy are the top three leading countries that contribute to the SI literature. Design Journal” is a prominent domain of SI research and the field is multidisciplinary. Findings also demonstrated that Mumford Michael D.  is the most productive scholar in the field of SI whereas Swyngedouw E. produced  the most cited article in the WOS. Finally, a significant increase in the number of publications published in SI field is remarkable since 2015 which leads the conclusion that the topic has gained momentum in recent years among the academicians

Social innovation is a realized action that transfers from profits to social needs by using entrepreneurial skills.  Social innovation is an action which is carried out by transferring profits to social needs with the help of entrepreneurial skills  Non-profit organizations and businesses organizations have developed social implementations at local, regional and national level to overcome social problems. To overcome social problems, organizations can encourage their employees’ entrepreneurial performance. Intrapreneurship must be supported in an organization to need employees who are more innovative, self-confident, proactive and able to take risk.  Employees are required to be more innovative, self-confident, proactive and likely to take risks in order to support intrapreneurship in an organization. Organizations will both develop their own special abilities and be able to change the way of competing with new products, technologies, social relations in the market. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Intrapreneurship on social innovation. In order to test construct validity of the study; factor analysis, correlation analysis were used to measure the severity and direction of the relationship between the variables and regression analysis was used to measure causality between variables. As a result of the research; while “Innovation and Proactivity” which is a sub-dimension of entrepreneurship, is effective on social innovation, the performance of "risk taking and self-confidence", another sub-dimension of entrepreneurship, is not effective on social innovation. Suggestions have been made to the organizations, managers, stakeholders, employees in the light of findings

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on return and risk transmission between oil and precious metals: Evidence from DCC-GARCH model

    Get PDF
It is frequently discussed in the literature that the correlation between low-correlation assets under ordinary market conditions may increase during crisis periods. To contribute to the ongoing debates, this paper empirically examines risk transmission between oil and precious metal markets induced by the COVID-19 pandemic using the DCC-GARCH model. The findings reveal evidence of a significant risk transmission between oil prices and precious metal prices, particularly during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings point out that the negative relationship between oil and all precious metals returns in the pre-COVID-19 period has changed with the effect of the pandemic. In this process, it is revealed that the negative relationship between oil and gold has strengthened, but the negative relationship between oil and silver has weakened. In addition, the correlations between oil and platinum and palladium turn positive. The empirical findings imply that investors and portfolio managers seeking portfolio diversification and hedging opportunities in a high-risk environment such as the COVID-19 pandemic should consider gold and silver assets for investment

Solving fractional diffusion and fractional diffusion-wave equations by Petrov-Galerkin finite element method

    Get PDF
In the last few years, it has become highly evident that fractional calculus has been widely used in several areas of science. Because of this fact, their numerical solutions also have become urgently important. In this manuscript, numerical solutions of both the fractional diffusion and fractional diffusion-wave equations have been obtained by a Petrov-Galerkin finite element method using quadratic B-spline base functions as trial functions and linear B-spline base functions as the test functions. In those equations, fractional derivatives are used in terms of the Caputo sense. While the L1 discretizaton formula has been applied to fractional diffusion equation, the L2 discretizaton formula has been applied to the fractional diffusion-wave equation. Finally, the error norms L2 and L∞ have been calculated for testing the accuracy of the proposed scheme.Publisher's Versio

Objectives: In this study, the objective was to evaluate the intramuscular injections administered to patients admitted to a family health center with sociodemographic characteristics. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional, analytical and, retrospective file review study. The sample population was formed by patients who had intramuscular injections administered between the dates of January 01, 2017 - and December 31, 2019. A total of 5648 injections for 2059 adults/children were evaluated. The data set was analyzed using SPSS 17.0 (IBM, USA) statistical package program. Results: An average of 2.74 injections per person was administered. The rate of myorelaxant injection administration was higher among women (p<0.001), and the rate of antibiotic and analgesic + myorelaxant injection administrations was higher among men (p<0.001 for both). With the increase of age, the rate of analgesic injection administrations increases (p<0.001) and the rate of antibiotic injection administrations decreases (p<0.001). The highest analgesic + myorelaxant injection administration rate was during autumn, and the lowest was during winter (p=0.001). Conclusion: The results showed that the frequency of analgesic, myorelaxant, antibiotic, steroid, vitamin/mineral, hormone and combination drugs used for intramuscular injection were affected by demographic variables such as age, gender and season. Identifying family health center dynamics may contribute to creating rational health policies. © Ankara Medical Journal. All rights reserved

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the frequency, clinical and genetic characteristics, and therapeutic options associated with Fabry disease (FD) in individuals with acute stroke and concomitant renal insufficiency. Material and Methods: An FD screening was performed on adult patients with renal dysfunction who were admitted to the neurology clinic due to acute stroke between 2015 and 2021. Screening was performed by a leukocyte α-galactosidase A (α-Gal A) enzyme activity assay using dried blood spot (DBS) samples from male patients. In cases where the enzyme activity was less than 2.5 nmol/ml/h, genetic analysis was performed. Female patients underwent direct genetic analysis. Results: Renal dysfunction was detected in 39 ischemic stroke patients and 5 hemorrhagic stroke patients out of a total of 401 cases. The enzyme level was found low in only one of the male patients. The c.680G>A (p.R227Q) mutation was observed in this male patient and a female patient. In the later stages of the study, it was realized with the help of pedigree analysis that these two cases were first-degree relatives. The same mutation was also detected in 13 first-degree and 2 second-degree relatives. The frequency of FD in our study group, which included patients with cerebral and renal involvement regardless of consanguinity, was 4.54%. Conclusion: Rapid detection of FD cases can be achieved by screening individuals presenting with multiple end-organ damages. To the best of our knowledge, this study highlights the underemphasized association between renal involvement and stroke in FD

Aim: Beta 2 Glycoprotein I (β2-GP I) takes part in the pathogenesis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Valine247Leucine (Val247Leu) gene polymorphism of β2-GP I might affect the binding/production of anti-β2-GP I antibodies. Multiple studies are showing different frequencies of this polymorphism in various ethnic backgrounds; we aimed to determine the frequency and clinical importance of Val247Leu gene polymorphism of β2-GP I in patients with APS and healthy. Methods: Eighty-three patients with APS [68 primary APS, 15 APS with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)] and 63 healthy individuals were included. Β2-GP I Val247Leu polymorphism was determined by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction and melting curve analysis. The presence of anti-β2-GP I antibodies was detected by ELISA in the patient group. Results: Allele and genotype frequencies were similar between patients and healthy controls (p=0,307). V allele and VV genotype frequencies were significantly higher in primary APS patients with thrombocytopenia (p=0.040). There was no significant difference between β2-GP I Val247Leu gene polymorphism and the anti-β2-GP IgM and IgG antibody levels in the patient group (p=0.631 and p=0.077, respectively) Conclusion: This is the first study investigating the β2-GP I Val247Leu gene polymorphism in the Turkish population. The frequencies of Val247Leu gene polymorphism of β2-GP I were not different between patients with APS and healthy individuals in line with the other studies in Caucasian populations. Significantly high levels of V allele and VV genotype frequencies in primary APS patients could offer further insight to into the pathogenesis of thrombocytopenia in APS
