    The Whitewater Valley

    Get PDF
The main fork of the Whitewater River has its origin in the rugged hills near Laurel, Indiana. This swirling, torrid, foam-flecked stream comes pouring down out of these hills into the lowlands which form its broad basin near Metamora. When it leaves this peaceful Hoosier hamlet the stream threads its way through a series of graceful spirals until it reaches the historic little city of Brookville where it is joined by its little sister, the east fork. The path of the river, from Brookville to the spot where it empties into the Miami River near Miamitown, Ohio, leads it through some of the most beautiful scenery to be found in Indiana today; but seen through the eyes of the early pioneers, it produced a panoramic scene of even greater splendor

    Island Magnificent

The smooth, turquoise waves of the Pacific come speeding up the even coral runways and fling themselves, as if filled with exhaustion, on the glistening white sands of the beach. Graceful palm trees, pregnant with coconuts, stride down to the water\u27s edge and cast their shadowy silhouettes on the blue glass of the lagoon

CRIMINAL LAW - \u27\u27TEMPORARY INSANITY -ARGUMENTS AND PROPOSALS FOR ITS ELIMINATION AS A DEFENSE TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION

    Get PDF
ln view of the apparently increasing number of cases which have come before the courts in recent years in which the defense of temporary insanity has been made, an investigation into the status of that defense in the criminal law of today would seem desirable. The term temporary insanity is one of popular origin and finds no place in strict legal terminology. The defense of incapacity for the mens rea, legally speaking, is insanity, not temporary insanity. But because of the human desire for a mot convenable, we have come to apply the term temporary insanity to those defenses which are based upon the claim that the insanity begins on the eve of the criminal act and ends when it is consummated

Matters of Biocybersecurity with Consideration to Propaganda Outlets and Biological Agents

    Get PDF
The modern era holds vast modalities in human data utilization. Within Biocybersecurity (BCS), categories of biological information, especially medical information transmitted online, can be viewed as pathways to destabilize organizations. Therefore, analysis of how the public, along with medical providers, process such data, and the methods by which false information, particularly propaganda, can be used to upset the flow of verified information to populations of medical professionals, is important for maintenance of public health. Herein, we discuss some interplay of BCS within the scope of propaganda and considerations for navigating the field

A bivariate first order autoregressive time series model in exponential variables (BEAR (1))

    Get PDF
A simple time series model for bivariate exponential variables having first-order auto-regressive structure is presented. The linear random coefficient difference equation model is an adaptation of the New Exponential Autoregressive model (NEAR (2)). The process is Markovian in the bivariate sense and has correlation structure analogous to that of the Gaussian AR(1) bivariate time series model. The model exhibits a full range of positive correlations and cross-correlations. With some modification in either the innovation or the random coefficients, the model admits some negative values for the cross- correlations. The marginal processes are shown to have correlation structure of ARMA (2,1) modelsPrepared for: Naval Postgraduate School Monterey, CAhttp://archive.org/details/bivariatefirstor00dewaNAN

Vapor Sensing Characteristics of Nanoelectromechanical Chemical Sensors Functionalized Using Surface-Initiated Polymerization

    Get PDF
Surface-initiated polymerization has been used to grow thick, uniform poly(methyl methacrylate) films on nanocantilever sensors. Cantilevers with these coatings yielded significantly greater sensitivity relative to bare devices as well as relative to devices that had been coated with drop-cast polymer films. The devices with surface-initiated polymer films also demonstrated high selectivity toward polar analytes. Surface-initiated polymerization can therefore provide a straightforward, reproducible method for large-scale functionalization of nanosensors
