Cross-Dressing in Taiwanese Dramas: A Reinforcement of Heteronormativity
An examination of temporary cross-dressing in Taiwanese romantic comedy dramas that seeks to analyze how gender, sexuality and romance are portrayed. The following discourses will be used to demonstrate how these dramas often support heteronormative ideals: the absurdity of gender, the utilitarian cross-dresser, the idea of the true (bio)gender, the eroticization of the female body, the bivalent kiss, the Sexuality Crisis Bro trope, \u27gender does not matter\u27 as romance, and relationship dynamics
Invisible pushdown languages
Context free languages allow one to express data with hierarchical structure,
at the cost of losing some of the useful properties of languages recognized by
finite automata on words. However, it is possible to restore some of these
properties by making the structure of the tree visible, such as is done by
visibly pushdown languages, or finite automata on trees. In this paper, we show
that the structure given by such approaches remains invisible when it is read
by a finite automaton (on word). In particular, we show that separability with
a regular language is undecidable for visibly pushdown languages, just as it is
undecidable for general context free languages
Practical Strategies for Integrating a Conversation Analyst in an Iterative Design Process
We present a case study of an iterative design process that includes a
conversation analyst. We discuss potential benefits of conversation analysis
for design, and we describe our strategies for integrating the conversation
analyst in the design process. Since the analyst on our team had no previous
exposure to design or engineering, and none of the other members of our team
had any experience with conversation analysis, we needed to build a foundation
for our interaction. One of our key strategies was to pair the conversation
analyst with a designer in a highly interactive collaboration. Our tactics have
been effective on our project, leading to valuable results that we believe we
could not have obtained using another method. We hope that this paper can serve
as a practical guide to those interested in establishing a productive and
efficient working relationship between a conversation analyst and the other

The enigmatic highly peculiar binary system HD 66051
HD 66051 (V414 Pup) is an eclipsing and spectroscopic double-lined binary, hosting two chemically peculiar stars: a highly peculiar B star as pri-mary and an Am star as secondary. It also shows out-of-eclipse variability that is due to chemical spots. Using a set of high-resolution spectropolarimetric observations, a weak magnetic field on the primary was found. The investigation of the new high-resolution UVES spectrum of HD 66051 allowed us to decide on the chemical peculiarity type of both components with more reliability. © 2020 Astronomical Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences
The development and geometry of shape change in Arabidopsis thaliana cotyledon pavement cells
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The leaf epidermis is an important architectural control element that influences the growth properties of underlying tissues and the overall form of the organ. In dicots, interdigitated pavement cells are the building blocks of the tissue, and their morphogenesis includes the assembly of specialized cell walls that surround the apical, basal, and lateral (anticlinal) cell surfaces. The microtubule and actin cytoskeletons are highly polarized along the cortex of the anticlinal wall; however, the relationships between these arrays and cell morphogenesis are unclear.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We developed new quantitative tools to compare population-level growth statistics with time-lapse imaging of cotyledon pavement cells in an intact tissue. The analysis revealed alternating waves of lobe initiation and a phase of lateral isotropic expansion that persisted for days. During lateral isotropic diffuse growth, microtubule organization varied greatly between cell surfaces. Parallel microtubule bundles were distributed unevenly along the anticlinal surface, with subsets marking stable cortical domains at cell indentations and others clearly populating the cortex within convex cell protrusions.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Pavement cell morphogenesis is discontinuous, and includes punctuated phases of lobe initiation and lateral isotropic expansion. In the epidermis, lateral isotropic growth is independent of pavement cell size and shape. Cortical microtubules along the upper cell surface and stable cortical patches of anticlinal microtubules may coordinate the growth behaviors of orthogonal cell walls. This work illustrates the importance of directly linking protein localization data to the growth behavior of leaf epidermal cells.</p
