Discrete Symmetries on the Light Front and a General Relation Connecting Nucleon Electric Dipole and Anomalous Magnetic Moments
We consider the electric dipole form factor, F_3(q^2), as well as the Dirac
and Pauli form factors, F_1(q^2) and F_2(q^2), of the nucleon in the
light-front formalism. We derive an exact formula for F_3(q^2) to complement
those known for F_1(q^2) and F_2(q^2). We derive the light-front representation
of the discrete symmetry transformations and show that time-reversal- and
parity-odd effects are captured by phases in the light-front wave functions. We
thus determine that the contributions to F_2(q^2) and F_3(q^2), Fock state by
Fock state, are related, independent of the fundamental mechanism through which
CP violation is generated. Our relation is not specific to the nucleon, but,
rather, is true of spin-1/2 systems in general, be they lepton or baryon. The
empirical values of the anomalous magnetic moments, in concert with empirical
bounds on the associated electric dipole moments, can better constrain theories
of CP violation. In particular, we find that the neutron and proton electric
dipole moments echo the isospin structure of the anomalous magnetic moments,
kappa^n ~ - kappa^p.Comment: 25 pages, 1 figure. Published version. Ref. adde
Correlations between hidden units in multilayer neural networks and replica symmetry breaking
We consider feed-forward neural networks with one hidden layer, tree
architecture and a fixed hidden-to-output Boolean function. Focusing on the
saturation limit of the storage problem the influence of replica symmetry
breaking on the distribution of local fields at the hidden units is
investigated. These field distributions determine the probability for finding a
specific activation pattern of the hidden units as well as the corresponding
correlation coefficients and therefore quantify the division of labor among the
hidden units. We find that although modifying the storage capacity and the
distribution of local fields markedly replica symmetry breaking has only a
minor effect on the correlation coefficients. Detailed numerical results are
provided for the PARITY, COMMITTEE and AND machines with K=3 hidden units and
nonoverlapping receptive fields.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, RevTex, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Stability of the replica symmetric solution for the information conveyed by by a neural network
The information that a pattern of firing in the output layer of a feedforward
network of threshold-linear neurons conveys about the network's inputs is
considered. A replica-symmetric solution is found to be stable for all but
small amounts of noise. The region of instability depends on the contribution
of the threshold and the sparseness: for distributed pattern distributions, the
unstable region extends to higher noise variances than for very sparse
distributions, for which it is almost nonexistant.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, 5 figures. Also available at

Optimal static and dynamic recycling of defective binary devices
The binary Defect Combination Problem consists in finding a fully working
subset from a given ensemble of imperfect binary components. We determine the
typical properties of the model using methods of statistical mechanics, in
particular, the region in the parameter space where there is almost surely at
least one fully-working subset. Dynamic recycling of a flux of imperfect binary
components leads to zero wastage.Comment: 14 pages, 15 figure
Parisi Phase in a Neuron
Pattern storage by a single neuron is revisited. Generalizing Parisi's
framework for spin glasses we obtain a variational free energy functional for
the neuron. The solution is demonstrated at high temperature and large relative
number of examples, where several phases are identified by thermodynamical
stability analysis, two of them exhibiting spontaneous full replica symmetry
breaking. We give analytically the curved segments of the order parameter
function and in representative cases compute the free energy, the storage
error, and the entropy.Comment: 4 pages in prl twocolumn format + 3 Postscript figures. Submitted to

Multifractal analysis of perceptron learning with errors
Random input patterns induce a partition of the coupling space of a
perceptron into cells labeled by their output sequences. Learning some data
with a maximal error rate leads to clusters of neighboring cells. By analyzing
the internal structure of these clusters with the formalism of multifractals,
we can handle different storage and generalization tasks for lazy students and
absent-minded teachers within one unified approach. The results also allow some
conclusions on the spatial distribution of cells.Comment: 11 pages, RevTex, 3 eps figures, version to be published in Phys.

A polynomial training algorithm for calculating perceptrons of optimal stability
Recomi (REpeated COrrelation Matrix Inversion) is a polynomially fast
algorithm for searching optimally stable solutions of the perceptron learning
problem. For random unbiased and biased patterns it is shown that the algorithm
is able to find optimal solutions, if any exist, in at worst O(N^4) floating
point operations. Even beyond the critical storage capacity alpha_c the
algorithm is able to find locally stable solutions (with negative stability) at
the same speed. There are no divergent time scales in the learning process. A
full proof of convergence cannot yet be given, only major constituents of a
proof are shown.Comment: 11 pages, Latex, 4 EPS figure
RP979-56 Long-Term Installment Land Contracts
The installment land contract is both an instrument of transfer and a method of financing sales of land. If properly drawn, it can have a number of advantages for both the buyer and seller. Both parties should contact their attorneys to be sure that the terms of the contract are clearly stated and understood.
This research publication discusses how long-term installment land contracts are used in the agricultural community
